The teaser poster of SBS’ most highly anticipated drama, AGAIN MY LIFE or nicknamed AgainMa by fans, was unveiled on 4 March 2022. Not long after, Lee Joon Gi posted a slightly different version of the same publicity poster, which awed just about everyone. The two posters, with the overlapping faces of heartthrob Lee Joon Gi with his strong eye energy, are visually stunning pieces of art. Amazing. Intriguing. Meaningful. There is this sense of euphoria when you look at them. The different versions give different vibes to the one studying them. Of the two, although they are almost similar, the one posted by Lee Joon Gi seems to be more distinctive and pleasing to the eye. It epitomises the gist of the story and encapsulates the mystique of the character.

One is inexplicably drawn to Lee Joon Gi's intense and passionate eyes. Lee’s eyes are not called South Korea’s National Treasure by global fans for nothing. Lee Joon Gi has beautiful, unique and expressive eyes; the inner curve of his eyes is special. One has to watch intently to catch every subtle nuance of emotion expressed by his eyes.

Lee’s eyes had been referred to as Phoenix Eyes in the past. But, 2022 is the Year of The Tiger, the King of the Beasts.  Kim Hee Woo can be compared to a tiger. One is blown away by the ferocity in Kim Hee Woo’s eyes which show a striking resemblance to The Eyes of The Tiger.

Kim Hee Woo, in Again My Life, seems to possess some characteristics of the tiger.

TIGER CHARACTERISTICS

Courageous

Strong

Powerful

Ambitious

Energetic

Loves A Challenge

Prepared To Take Risks

Hidden Aggressiveness

Sensitive

Humorous

Outspoken

Capable of Great Generosity and Love

Self-Confident with A Sense of Justice

A Commitment to Help Others for The Greater Good.

Usually, a tiger is not ferocious if not disturbed. But, if someone steps on the tiger’s tail, he might pounce on them with a single-minded intensity. Again My Life will give the audience some insight into what Tiger Kim Hee Woo must do ‘to outwit, outlast and outplay’ his evil opponents.

THE COLOURS

The colour palette: 4 colours - purple, white, black and light brown (skin tone).

PURPLE

The Chinese see purple as a colour that represents healing, spiritual awareness and abundance.

In the west, purple means wisdom, bravery, and spirituality. It seems connected to the unknown, supernatural and divine.

Purple contains the energy and strength of red with the spirituality and integrity of blue. The colour purple is also associated with royalty and nobility (power and wealth).

Purple also represents the future, imagination and dreams.

In Again My Life, purple is a combination of all these.

BLACK AND WHITE

Black and white may have many connotations but in the poster, to put it simply, black represents evil and white denotes purity.

LIGHT BROWN

Light brown denotes skin tone. Kim Hee Woo is depicted as a person who is only human (SBS' teaser poster).

A COMPARISON

OF

THE TWO POSTERS

LJG’s Instagram post (l) versus Teaser Poster (r)

Let’s start with the one uploaded by Lee Joon Gi on Instagram.

THE POSTER

The poster gives two images of Kim Hee Woo, one Before His Death (left) and another one After His Resurrection (right), suggesting two lives. The face on the left is Kim Hee Woo’s first life (The PAST). After being killed, he is given a new lease on life (The FUTURE).

Kim Hee Woo’s future life in the land of the living is more important than the past life and more screen time is devoted to it, so the image of his future life is clearly positioned in front of the other image (his past).

In his Past Life (l), Kim Hee Woo, a prosecutor with a fiery temperament, was probably naïve, overconfident, cocky and arrogant and one can also say ‘innocent’, ‘unworldly’ and was unaware of the perils of the reality.

His cockiness is depicted by the smirk on his lips which curve upwards, and the complacent look in his right eye.

The purple tint (white added to purple) in the image, represents his simplistic view of life and blind trust in the law. The inability to navigate the real world was the reason why the uncompromising prosecutor was murdered in his past life.

The image of Kim Hee Woo on the right (Future Life) depicts an intelligent, serious, determined and driven prosecutor. His magnetic eyes are tinged with sadness, seriousness, determination. His gaze is mournful, yet they hint of hidden anger and aggression.

His face, which is painted in a shade of purple (black added to purple), shows the darkness of his character. He would have to fight his own demons to win the war against evil.

The question is: How far would Kim Hee Woo go to ensure that punishment is meted out to the evil criminals, and that the punishment actually fits the crime? Would he lose his soul to achieve his goals?

The juxtaposition of the light image with the dark image of Kim Hee Woo in Lee’s version of the poster shows the startling contrast between life before and after the murder. This is clearer when the poster and the mirror image are viewed together.

THE OFFICIAL TEASER POSTER

 SBS' Teaser Poster

In the Teaser Poster unveiled by SBS, the two faces are perceived differently when viewed from a different perspective.

The purple-tinted face on the left seems to be fantasy-like or non-human (Before Death) while the one on the right (Born Again) is more of a human face as it has the skin tone of real human beings (in this case, light brown).

Coincidentally, Lee Joon Gi, the multi-talented Actor-Martial Artist-Singer-Dancer-Model, is known for many marvellous songs including, Born Again, which speaks of ‘trying again’.

SBS' Teaser Poster

In a close-up study of the eyes, the two faces seem to merge with each other. The eyes on the left and right seem to form part of the face. The colours around the three (3) eyes in the poster are different. The eye on the left and the eye on the right seem to complete each other despite the different light and dark colours. The area around the eye in the centre seems to be the melting point of the two colours. It seems paler as white colour is added to the area around the eye.

Lee Joon Gi's Instagram version seems to be better. It is more pleasing to the eye.
