Lawless Lawyer: Show Me The Funny

SHOW ME

THE FUNNY

BONG SANG PIL

KING
OF
LITIGATION

There seems to be no English translation for some of the Lawless Lawyer teasers. Does it matter? One can spin one’s own yarns.

Superstar Lee Joon Gi plays Bong Sang Pil in ‘Lawless Lawyer’.

Bong Sang Pil. The Trial Lawyer. King of Litigation. The Best of The Best. The Most Intelligent. The Wittiest. The Sexiest – Devilishly Sexy. The Hottest. The Most Gorgeous. The Handsomest. The Most Humorous – Wickedly Funny. The Most Seductive.  A truly Iconic Character.

No one will blame you if you’re taken in by the superlatives. But, Bong Sang Pil is more than that. Serious. Shrewd. Analytical. Articulate, Eloquent and Persuasive. Passionate. Incredibly Motivated. Determined. Persevering. Ambitious. Sincere. Creative. Lean and Hungry. Has Street Smarts. And, he is such a romantic character.

The TOP lawyer in Ki Seong City. In the legal world, Bong Sang Pil is truly one of a kind; he stands out. He is not your conventional lawyer and he does not conform to any norms.

Not many lawyers have as much talent as Bong Sang Pil; he weaves magic in court trials with his intelligence, passion and wit. And, he looks good while doing it.

Bong Sang Pil’s passion, humour and wit is undeniable – he even has a hysterically amusing business card that states the name of his law firm. ‘Lawless Law Firm’. He claims to be able to do his clients justice. It is a clear statement of the nature of his business.

LAWLESS LAW FIRM

‘I will turn the tears that you have shed into money’

Bong Sang Pil

Lawyer

That means that he is a litigator in law suits, a trial lawyer. He would sue criminals for huge monetary awards as compensation for his clients. It is learnt according to court data that as a litigator, Bong Sang Pil’s success rate is the highest as he has many wins in the law court.

Bong Sang Pil is the King of Litigation and is somebody to be feared. He is a serious lawyer. He wages his own personal war on corruption. He ruthlessly takes down anyone who violates the law. But, Bong Sang Pil is a bad-boy lawyer. Confrontational and violent. A rogue lawyer who uses creative ways of winning cases; he would manipulate the loopholes in the law to his advantage. And, vengeance is hardwired into his brain; it is his game. However, in the end, he emerges as ‘The Perfect Lawyer’.

Let it be known that Bong Sang Pil is the fighting-fit lawyer who would bring down the crooked female judge, Cha Moon Sook and her cronies. As an earnest lawyer, Bong Sang Pil may be solemn and cold, but his stare will burn you to cinders.

The genius of Bong Sang Pil makes him a superhero in the drama, Lawless Lawyer.

SHOW ME
THE FUNNY

BONG SANG PIL
WICKED HUMOUR

Bong Sang Pil. The life of a bad boy lawyer is a fascinating subject. Lee Joon Gi is in top form in this visually impressive, gripping and action-packed legal action drama. He is hilariously funny. Be dazzled by his many amazing charms. Bong Sang Pil will turn ‘Lawless Lawyer’ into a Laugh-Out-Loud drama.

Bong Sang Pil delivers some high-octane action as he attempts to fight the corrupt and powerful sections of the population in Ki Seong City.

TOILET HUMOUR

Is Bong Sang Pil ‘doing his business’ in the Comfort Station? Oh, no. The scene is too funny for words.

Euphemisms or polite terms would be appropriate in this discussion. Something exciting is happening in the restroom. Bong Sang Pil is conducting his business in errr.., the Gents.

His voice, accent and hand gestures when on the phone adds humour to the scene.

An oversized gangster barges in. Bong Sang Pil is under no illusion that the man is trying to be friendly. With one chop - a cutting blow, Bong Sang Pil takes the man, who is double his size, down to the ground. That’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for you!

Funny moments.

The fallen man has not shown proper courtesy. But, Bong Sang Pil might have been too rough on him. Bong probably regrets his own lack of manners. He bends over the man to offer his apologies.

A rematch. The weaker man gets up to his feet and attacks his stronger opponent again. The lawyer rises to the challenge for the second time. Just one more punch to set things right. Wham! Bong Sang Pil swings his fist and easily subdues the goon. The thug doesn’t know what hit him. He hits the floor again.

Bong Sang Pill has mastered the etiquette of winning in a war. He is gracious and cheekily offers the loser a handkerchief to clean up his wounds and the toilet slime on his face!

Bong Sang Pil is outrageously entertaining!

Ha Jae Yi has also visited the ‘Ladies’ or the ‘Powder Room’.

Bong exits the toilet and high fives with Ha Jae Yi. Does she know why he is so cheerful and jovial? She would know soon enough.

Beaming. It seems that his mood has been visibly buoyed after some precious moments in the toilet.

Where’s the part in the LLTeaser where Bong Sang Pil rubs his tummy? Where's the translation? Never mind.

In the missing part, Bong seems to be confiding in Hae Jae Yi about his bodily functions - the long call of Nature.

After his trip to the Gents, his tummy seems to feel slightly better after some bowel movements and the removal of shit, the gangster, in the bathroom. He is smiling at his own joke. Utterly funny.

Bong Sang Pil probably feels good about being bad. Is this interpretation of the scene correct? No? Still, it's funny.

BONG SANG PIL
AND
HA JAE YI

THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES
MALE POWER v. FEMALE POWER

The next part of the LLTeaser. Bong Sang Pil parks his brand-new car in an illegal spot. There seems to be no vacant space in the parking lot.

By the looks of it, Bong is already very late for his court case.

Ha Jae Yi (Seo Yea Ji) has been impatiently waiting for him for some time. Her high standards of discipline tell her this: His tardiness speaks volumes about his lack of professionalism; it is a No-No for a Trial Lawyer.

She must have been newly-employed by Bong Sang Pil after her scuffle with the judge, whom she had slapped. She has been removed from her post and found employment as a paralegal with Bong Sang Pil’s law firm.

Bong Sang Pil is in a hurry. He carelessly tosses her the car key and instructs her to park his car in a proper spot.

The voice in her head questions, ‘Is that arrogant man treating me as a parking valet?’

She is, after all, a qualified lawyer. She has an elite educational background. She is not his Girl Friday. And, women are NOT the weaker sex. How dare he! She is determined keep him in line.

Ha Jae Yi is a feminist dream, but she lacks emotional intelligence. She looks at the car key and she seethes with anger and indignation. Woe betide any man who commits the sin of ‘showing disrespect’ to a lady, an educated professional lady.

Instinctively, Bong Sang Pil turns around. His new car is heading rapidly towards another car. Ha Jae Yi does not just bump the car but crashes headlong into it, dislodging the parked car from its space. Ha Jae Yi has parked perfectly in the parking space.

Horror of horrors! Bong Sang Pil’s eyes widen. The expression on his face is priceless! It speaks of a broken heart. Watch the violent surge of adrenaline on his face. Note the knot of tension in his eyes. The veins on his neck bulge; his eyes have popped out of their sockets. And, his trembling mouth has formed an ‘O’.

His precious new car! His precious new babe. His beloved car - unbelievable! No doubt, his car is dented! The realization has brought him out in cold sweat. Bong Sang Pil‘s jaw is practically swinging on its hinges. A cry of anguish rises to his throat. His screeches would not help to undo the damage.

He is at the point of collapse. 1. Dented car and repair bills 2. Summons for wilfully damaging another car 3. Tarnished reputation

Ha Jae Yi, the avenging angel, coolly and calmly tosses the car key back to him.

Proud and Haughty. A sign of trouble. Has the hotheaded former lawyer forgotten that she is now a paralegal after slapping a judge? The lawyer-turned-paralegal has fallen from grace for contempt of court and should have been thankful that she is not vegetating in a jail cell. She has been suspended from law practice for the time being due to her misdemeanour.

The truth is, Ha Jae Yi’s status has changed. She should know that she is presently an assistant of her new boss, Bong Sang Pil. She fails to realise the bitter truth - that she is not his equal and would not be qualified to sit with him at the same table in the courtroom.

But, anyhow, she expects to be treated as an equal and to be respected.

Bong Sang Pil is shocked by the volatile temperament and aggressiveness of the lady.

Ha Jae Yi shoots him a nonchalant stare. He backs away in horror from ‘the little monster’. He has learnt his lesson. Treat the lady with care.

Hilarious. It seems as if he had seen a ghost. What kind of female assistant has he employed?

Poor Bong Sang Pil. He looks at his car key, and then at her.

He is smarting from the lady’s vengeful nature. He has fallen foul of a fiery and ill-tempered woman. The vengeful lawyer, Bong Sang Pil, has found his match.

It is hysterical. Lee Joon Gi is uproariously funny.

Bong Sang Pil and Ha Jae Yi. They would have to shift gears to adjust to each other. They would become legal warriors – ‘The Justice League of Two’ in the corrupt Ki Seong world.

Bong Sang Pil and Ha Jae Yi will certainly have a romantic relationship in the drama. A powerful man and a powerful woman. The man would be smitten; he would be thrilled with the strong woman, Ha Jae Yi.

Eat your heart out, ladies.

Lee Joon Gi and Seo Yi Ji’s chemistry is incredibly powerful. It is well-known that Lee Joon Gi’s chemistry with his female leads has always been more than fantastic. Why, he’s an actor of many charms!

But, his chemistry with Seo Yi Ji is, unquestionably, the best.

CROC QUEEN

AND

HER CROC MINION

The corrupt Croc Queen, Cha Moon Sook (Lee Hye Young), the double-faced judge, puts on a pretence when the occasion requires her to do so - like comforting a tearful child.

She could be sympathetic and would be able to cry crocodile tears too.

Female judges are few and far between; female justices are even fewer. The legal world is dominated by males.

Cha Moon Sook, the female judge is featured prominently on the cover of a prestigious magazine, ‘Dames’. Cha Moon Sook is unusual as she is the only Judge cum Justice in Ki Seong City.

Cha Moon Sook’s private life would be interesting. One wonders if she is married. She is, probably, a divorcee.

Would she be romantically linked to the other villain, Ahn Oh Joo (Choi Min Soo), a really nasty and shady character?  Maybe not. But, corruption creates such strange bedfellows. Imagine - a judge and a gangster boss working in close association with each other.

Or would she be linked romantically to a woman? Her assistant, perhaps?

THE DIFFERENCE

BETWEEN

A JUDGE AND A JUSTICE

Judges and justices are court officials who make the final decision in every case that is brought to a court of law.

A JUDGE

Judges handle local cases.

Judges work in lower level courts, such as district court.

A lower court judge presides over trials and hear oral arguments in civil cases and misdemeanour and felony criminal justice cases.

Parties in those cases who are dissatisfied with the decision of a judge can appeal the judge’s decision to justices in higher courts.

A JUSTICE

A justice operates differently from a judge.

Justices are found on an Appeals Court and Supreme Court.

Unlike their counterparts in lower courts who work alone, appellate justices can consider cases in ‘panels’, meaning three justices can decide a case. A full court of justices may decide to join together to consider a more complex or prominent case.

Justices do not hold trials. They review documentation from the lower courts before making decisions.

But, when necessary, justices will hear oral arguments from lawyers on specific cases and will issue a written opinion at a later date.

SHOW ME
THE MONEY

Cha Moon Sook wields power over law and justice in Ki Seong City, so does she harbour a sense of entitlement – that she deserves the riches the business world has to offer?

Cha Moon Sook is in league with a band of scoundrels in a conspiracy to obstruct justice. Surely, with such collaboration, lots of bribe money would change hands.

GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION

Social dinner. Cha Moon Sook, who is ensconced in her seat at the head of the table, relishes in the fact that she is powerful beyond compare. Female power. A woman with men at her feet.

Corruption. The picture of Cha Moon Sook in bad company is enough evidence to show that she is guilty by association. Association with ruthless gangsters and thieves in expensive suits. Her female assistant, who is seated next to her, is a partner in crime. Cha is judged by the company she keeps.

But, what is unknown is the secret corruption - Cha Moon Sook has corrupted Ki Seong’s legal system.

ACTION SCENES

Action scenes. Lee Joon Gi, South Korea’s hottest superstar actor, is reported to be performing a series of action stunts in Lawless Lawyer. And he is doing his action scenes without a stunt double.

FROM ANOTHER ANGLE

Lee Joon Gi performs a stunt of leaping over a white car. Did Bong Sang Pil leap over the moving car with legs together or did he perform a mid-air split? In the previous teaser, he seemed to have performed a split in mid-air.

Lee Joon Gi’s passion and enthusiasm for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is well-known. His talents would not be wasted. He would incorporate Jiu Jitsu techniques into his high-octane action scenes. So, be on the lookout for his martial arts scenes in ‘Lawless Lawyer’.

Top-notch actor Lee seems to have shed even more weight to project the lean and hungry look in the drama. He impresses with his athleticism, flexibility, fitness, agility, energy and physical strength. A truly scrumptious superstar - a media and internet sensation.

THE EAGLE
HAS
LANDED

Lee Joon Gi in his BJJ uniform: The Emblem of an Eagle

Fabulous Eagle King Bong Sang Pil. King of Legal Eagles. King of Lawyers. The eagle soars higher than any other bird.

Likewise, Eagle King Bong Sang Pil soars higher than any lawyer, but when he lands for the kill, he goes straight for the jugular.

The drama will see the landing of the eagle. Bong Sang Pil would successfully clean up Ki Seong City’s judicial world.

LAWLESS LAWYER
