The Dream Team (Season 2): A Major Overhaul For Arthdal Chronicles

THE DREAM TEAM

(SEASON 2)

A

MAJOR

OVERHAUL

FOR

ARTHDAL CHRONICLES

The news of a Dream Team helmed by Director Kim Kwang Sik, all lined up for TVN’s Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 floats dreamily like the fragrance of a thousand roses wafting across a room. The team, which boasts of a new cast and crew with loads of awards and a wealth of experience under their belt, in addition to the retention of some talented original actors, stirs netizens into a frenzy. No expense and effort have been spared by Studio Dragon, the production company, to transform Arthdal Chronicles (Season 2) into a formidable television series. A fever triggered by the news that the adult Eun Seom / Saya would be portrayed by Lee Joon Gi has sent hopes and expectations spiralling up the sky.

Global Kdrama lovers expect the mature version of the warrior to be a hero of mythic proportions in the sequel. Lee, with his combined talent, fame, popularity, magnetism, appeal and unique, magic touch, will do full justice to the role of  twins, Eun Seom and Saya.

Lee Joon Gi is paired with Shin Se Kyung, who would portray Tanya and the pair will leave everyone fascinated and bedazzled. TVN’s Arthdal Chronicles Season 2, with the Dream Team in it, will be a blockbuster masterpiece in the making. It is expected to open worldwide in 2023 to critical acclaim and astounding success.

One is convinced that the sequel to the historical fantasy television series, which speak of the lost magical fictional land - the shadowy ancient world of Arthdal in the Bronze Age; the Igutus, a hybrid of a Saram and a Neanthal and their mysterious purple blood and eyes that shine purple; the barbaric blue-blooded Neanthals whose presence can instil fear in a bear, the blue-haired Momo tribe, a mortal with a black tongue, a High Priestess with the psychic ability of the gods, the legend of the Great White Wolf; strange DREAMS and Kanmoreu, a black stallion that can outrun other horses, is expected to be a tale of epic, stupendous storytelling – a saga of ancient history, mystery, barbarism, war, romance, and fierce, fast and spectacular action. Lee Joon Gi will climb, leap, spring or swing into action as the heroic, wild, tigerish or savage and Machiavellian Eun Seom / Saya.

Little is known of that Bronze Age which is veiled in the mists of legend. The different loosely-knit tribes and clans are forced into a union or alliance but each group is compelled to continually battle for their survival in a world of wild jungles, high, treacherous mountains, boiling lakes, torrential rivers and fierce invaders. The story would surely advance and move forward into the Iron Age.

The pairing of the gorgeous, charming, sensual and sexy couple, Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung, has raised expectations sky high. Their personal chemistry is a cast-iron guarantee; they will cast their spell on us. Our hearts will incessantly pound with each of their interactions. Humour, laughter and fun are expected. Coupled with a new Production Director and a new Cinematographer, everyone is bubbling with feverish excitement and anticipation. Though the tale will be startlingly new and original, one is curious about how it will be imagined and conveyed.

Eun Seom and Saya will no more be the solitary cheetah or leopard. They will take their place in tribal society, defend their rights, prized territories and people in the sequel. Will the mature Eun Seom be fierce, wild, barbaric when he attempts to vanquish Tagon or when he faces off with Saya, his Machiavellian twin?

Let’s look at what the cast and crew will bring to the table.

DIRECTOR KIM KWANG SIK

Kim Kwang Sik (50), previously known for his great successes in My Dear Desperado (2010), Tabloid Truth (2014) and The Great Battle (2018), has astutely managed to bring Lee Joon Gi, a huge star and actor, on board Arthdal Chronicles Season 2. He and Studio Dragon must have patiently waited for Lee to complete his latest drama, Again My Life. Lee, brilliantly cast, will bring new life to the sequel.

Kim Kwang Sik will revamp and restyle Arthdal Chronicles to ensure the sequel would be fresh, original and brand new. The results are expected, to say the least, to be spectacular.

Kim Kwang Sik received the Best New Director for My Dear Desperado in  2010 at the 31st Blue Dragon Film Awards. Kim was also the first assistant director for  Lee Chang-dong's award-winning Oasis (2002).

My Dear Desperady, a romantic comedy, is written and directed by Kim Kwang Sik. It is about two people who become semi-basement one-room neighbours: one is brave but jobless, and the other, the neighbourhood gangster.

This film was remade in Hindi titled, Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story in 2013. It was also remade in Tamil titled Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum

Another achievement is The Great Battle, a historical film about the siege of Ansi Fortress and the epic 88-day battle fought between Yang Manchun and his Goguryeo troops against 500,000 Tang dynasty soldiers.

Tabloid Truth, his crime thriller that speaks of the destructive nature of certain information, is fascinating. The movie begins with the chilling suicide of a promising actress triggered by the spread of false, malicious rumours. Her brave manager, risking his life by prising open the truth behind them, uncovers a vast conspiracy. The chilling truth is a network of power, money and sex, where faceless people from every field of society - financial firms, public relations agencies, government organizations, the media etc, manipulate the truth. They are the authors of jjirasi (leaflet).

To shape public opinion and further particular agendas, information which is selectively chosen is published in Jjirasi, the secretive online newsletters. Misinformation, disinformation, rumour mongering by the faceless rumour makers behind the scenes are responsible for fact and fiction being blurred.
