It was reported that Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung had participated in the first script reading of Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 on 6 August 2022. The two actors are favourites and had been handpicked by Studio Dragon to play the lead roles of the TVN sequel which would be broadcast in 2023. Written by Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yeon, and directed by Kim Kwang Sik (The Great Battle) who replaced Kim Won Seok, the announcement of the names of the two first leads for Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 has stirred a surge of excitement among netizens.

Screenwriter  Ever since the news broke, Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 has not only become the most highly anticipated drama of 2023 but also potentially the blockbuster masterpiece of 2023. Global drama viewers, fans and all sorts of people are excited to hear news of the sequel.
Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung will not disappoint; they would not only make their mark on the global drama world but their performance in Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 will also be stamped on the global viewers’ memory.
Studio Dragon and the production team, who were responsible for the 18-episode 2019 Arthdal Chronicles Season 1, had planned for significant cast and crew changes prior to the filming of the sequel. It has made the news when they rose boldly to the challenge of choosing the actor who can best portray the adult version of Eun Seom (Saya).
A Studio Dragon official revealed that, ‘As a result of lengthy and in-depth discussions between the writer and the production team, the role of Eun Seom in Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 was offered to Lee Joon Gi.’ They had only one logical choice for the first lead. Leading actor Lee Joon Gi, a multiple-award winning multihyphenate who has a very huge, passionate and dedicated global fandom, has cemented his reputation as an outstanding actor in all genres.

Although Lee Joon Gi excels and impresses in all genres or whatever genre he chooses, he stuns in the historical genre. In fact, Lee is widely known as The King of Historical Dramas. Also known as The King of Action, Lee has the striking characteristics that are necessary and salient for a drama like Arthdal Chronicles: physicality, athleticism, masculinity, agility and sensuality. His enormous appeal is that he exudes an aura of charm, mystery and animal magnetism. Such a role not only demands top-notched acting skills and spectacular physical prowess but also great drawing power. None of actors who can act also possess great martial arts skills. They have either one or the other, seldom both. Nor do they have the mass appeal and dynamism to go with it.

Other actors would compare unfavourably with Lee for the lead warrior role. Moreover, Lee can guarantee high ratings. His latest achievement, the fantasy-legal-political-action Again My Life, recorded a high viewership of 12%.
The role of Tanya was offered to Shin Se Kyung. In fact, it was rumoured that she, originally offered the role for the 2019 drama, had declined it. Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung are a perfect pair to play the roles that require strength, energy and stamina. They are a perfect fit in this genre and will make magic together. The talented duo exudes a sensual and youthful allure.
Not new to each other, the pair were involved in the Green Umbrella Children Foundation campaign with Mickey Mouse on 28 November 2018.      
The monumental decision to cast Lee Joon Gi, a huge global phenomenon, as the leading male character, reflects his status. Lee boasts the biggest fandom that the South Korean actors have ever seen as exemplified by the size and variety of the global fan-organised promotional advertisements and other forms of global fan support for his dramas which have dramatically expanded over the years.

 When the story in Season 2 unfolds, it will be more than a decade later and Eun Seom, the main male character has achieved adulthood in the mythical land of Arth during the Bronze Age. Many expect to see the Heroic as well as the Machiavellian versions of Eun Seom.
Jang Dong Gun (Ta Gon) and Kim Ok Bin (Tae Al Ha) will return to reprise their roles. Choi Chan Min is the new Director of Photography.
The filming of TVN’s Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 is scheduled to begin in August.
