Art Imitates Life In Lee Joon Gi's Drama, Again My Life

ART IMITATES LIFE

IN

LEE JOON GI’S

DRAMA

AGAIN MY LIFE

We are not certain about how the characters like Kim Hee Woo (Lee Joon Gi) in the webtoon, Again My Life, will be translated into the flesh and blood world on the screen but we are sure that there would be an incredible transformation when Director Han Cheol Soo and the illustrious cast bring the story to life. This should include what one would refer to as ‘Art imitates Life’

The audience will be excited to compare the military drafting of Kim Hee Woo in the manhwa and Lee Joon Gi’s 2010 mandatory military enlistment.

There is a picture of the fictitious sharpshooter, Kim Hee Woo, practising shooting and another of him patrolling the snow-laden military grounds. The webtoon character resembles Lee Joon Gi, who was conscripted in 2010 and was discharged in 2012.

Art (television drama) imitates life (reality).

Sergeant Kim Hee Woo is likened to Sergeant / Captain Lee Joon Gi.

One touching part of the tale in Again My Life relates to the ambiguous relationship between Kim Hee Woo (Lee Joon Gi) and Kim Hee Ah played by Kim Ji Eun. Unrequited love. The young lady boldly confesses her love to Kim Hee Woo but is rejected by the young man. At least two ladies would joust with each other for Kim Hee Woo’s love but the prosecutor has more important things than love on his mind.

In the teaser trailer, Kim Hee Woo’s intense eyes reveal his grim and steely determination to destroy Jo Tae Sup (Lee Kyeong Young) who embodies the ultimate evil in the political world but the young lady is ignorant of Kim Hee Woo’s mission in life.

Kim Hee Ah tears up, probably when Kim Hee Woo explains to her in no uncertain terms that it is impossible for them to have a love relationship.

Note this: Kim Ji Eun posted a picture of herself with short hair on social media but Kim Hee Ah has long hair in the teaser trailer. Probably, after Kim Hee Woo spurns her love, Kim Hee Ah chops off her tresses

Why would Kim Hee Ah crop her hair? She probably thinks she has to shed the past and move on. The dramatic haircut is a marker of change in her life. Her strange, new look symbolizes the emergence of her new self. In time, Kim Hee Ah’s hair will grow back and her heart will heal. But, can she ever forget Kim Hee Woo? Will she wait for him? The global audience can’t wait to see whether there is any hope for their love.

The mention of Military Enlistment in the manhwa is an education in itself: it a call for patriotism, a rebuke of those who avoid mandatory military service and the pricking of the conscience of young men and their parents. Kim Hee Woo administers a slap on the wrists of would-be military conscription dodgers, particularly future leaders, who evade enlistment with the help of their parents. The drama Again My Life, with its emphasis on core moral and ethical values, should be made compulsory screening and viewing not only in military schools but also in high schools.

K-drama lovers expect Again My Life, like Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, to be a masterpiece and would forever be engraved in the memory and hearts of global viewers.

The 16-episode SBS drama, with criminal law, political, action, mystery, time travel and fantasy elements, is the most highly anticipated drama in 2022. It is directed by Director Han Chul Soo, scripted by J and Kim Yul, and adapted from Lee Hae-nal’s web novel of the same name to the screen by Lee Byung-hun. Lee Soo Min is the Action and Martial Arts Director. The drama, which will premiere in April, is produced by Samhwa Networks and Cross Pictures.
