film at the 26th Moscow International Film Festival in 2004. The Hotel
Venus was showcased at the Cannes Film Market in France in the same year.  
But it was the 2005 The King and The Clown directed by Lee Joon-ik that launched Lee Joon Gi into international fame and popularity. Lee portrayed Gong-gil, an effeminate Joseon clown, and his life has never been the same again. The list of awards and nominations for his role in the film in 2006 and 2007 is staggering.
