Covid-19 has badly hit many global showbusiness, cultural and awards shows, some of which have been postponed indefinitely or compelled to stop altogether. However, the 2020 AAA show, though a subdued affair, continued according to schedule. Lee Joon Gi won two awards at AAA’s award ceremony. The handsome and dashing actor, immaculately dressed in his black double breasted tuxedo and bow tie, won ‘Asia Celebrity Award’ and ‘Best Artist Award’. The show was hosted by the good-looking and affable Lee Teuk who was assisted by his lovely co-host.
Interestingly, the server for the 2020 AAA show crashed and
many fans were bitterly disappointed at the lost opportunity to witness their
idols, favourite actors or the popular stars hit the red carpet and receive
their awards. Those who had not seen the shows but had paid for their tickets
were offered refunds.
It goes without saying that Lee Joon Gi, Asia’s hottest and
most gorgeous multihyphenate superstar and actor, is a red-carpet favourite.
Lee’s attendance and presence liven up the atmosphere and lend credibility to any award ceremony.
The show proper was held on 28 November. Part of the show had been pre-recorded. The spotlight was on Lee Joon Gi all the way in the ceremony.
The elegant and sophisticated superstar showed intelligence and confidence
not only in the red carpet photo call but also in his friendly banter with
Lee Teuk, his admirer since his military days (2010-2012) and in his
acceptance speeches.   When he went onstage to receive the 2020 AAA Best Artist Award
with the beautiful and elegant Seo Yea Ji, who also won the same award, he
couldn’t stop smiling. Seo was the lead actress for his 2018 drama, Lawless
Lawyer. They laughed when they exchanged amiable pleasantries.
To the great disappointment of Lee’s passionate and supportive
global fans, Flower of Evil admirers, drama critics and writers, AAA had
failed to live up to their expectations; the public were short-changed. Lee
Joon Gi was not accorded appropriate recognition for his impressive acting
performance in Flower of Evil. It was obviously a dagger especially to his
fans’ hearts.
Lee lives up to his reputation as a classy and sophisticated world-class actor and superstar and by extension, a perfect world-class public figure. One couldn’t but be spellbound by his gritty determination to give beautiful and meaningful speeches for his two awards at the event, even though he wasn’t honoured with the top award. And not only that but, he was incredibly generous, terribly nice, infinitely gracious and absolutely noble towards the much younger winner of the ‘Daesang’ whom he described as ‘awesome’. The magnanimous gesture, a mark of a great person, shows who the REAL winner and the ‘Highlight’ of the awards show is.
Lee Joon Gi has made a gigantic splash in the drama world with
his 2020 drama, Flower of Evil. But, the presentation of the two awards was
counter-intuitive; it is regrettable that the two awards do not represent
awards for his acting performance; he was not recognised for his world-class
acting performance in Flower of Evil. So, what's next then? Perhaps, Lee Joon Gi should
receive ‘Global Daesangs’ or international awards for his phenomenal acting
in the drama masterpiece, Flower of Evil.
In the whole sweep of things, this award-winning stuff doesn’t
really matter. One can laugh about it after the year is out.
But what is most unforgettable about 2020 AAA is, the co-host describes Lee Joon Gi’s acting in Flower of Evil as ‘INCOMPARABLE’, which perhaps inadvertently, drives AAA's point home. That Lee Joon Gi is the Best Actor and should get The Daesang, the top award, is forcefully but unwittingly hammered home.
