Flower of Evil has taken the world by storm and Lee Joon Gi has cemented his status as a global phenomenon in the drama world. The 38-year old eligible superstar plays Do Hyun Soo, the eponymous character of Flower of Evil, a far cry from his usual hero characters. He portrays a closet 'psychopath' and loving husband-cum-father so convincingly that the audience have swooned over him. Lee has struck the right chord with the viewers with his fresh and original interpretation of Do Hyun Soo. At the heart of the drama is Lee’s powerful and spectacular performance in every episode which showcases the actor at the top of his game. His portrayal of Do Hyun Soo in Flower of Evil, which is helmed by international award winning director, Kim Cheol Kyu, is awesome: his inscrutable expression that betrays nothing of his thoughts is juxtaposed with his outward expression of inner emotional feelings, his eyes bright with unshed tears versus  his eyes brimming with tears, the marked coldness in his voice, his moments of madness, his thrilling action scenes performed without a stunt double, his various other talents, his iconic screen presence and his striking good looks have brought magic to the small screen. The viewers have to thank scriptwriter Yoo Jung Hee for her great storytelling and clever plotting abilities; she is great at setting up the Do Min Seok-Do Hyun Soo crime puzzle and keeps everyone guessing by peppering the tale with real and fake clues.

One particular feature of the 2020 Flower of Evil is the blending of the main character with Greek (Roman) myth. Do Hyun Soo, a metal craftsman, identifies himself with Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire and metalworking. The idea works effectively for the gorgeous looking actor. Do Hyun Soo’s bleached blond Greek God look in the drama has been etched in the audience’s memory ever since that first ethereal impression of him in Episode 2. Lee Joon Gi, the reigning Prince of Asia, has been elevated to be the Asian Greek God.

This Asian Greek god appears in many kissing scenes with Moon Chae Won who portrays his detective wife and those screen kisses have been the talk of the town. The sexy superstar almost takes the viewers’ breath away as his unconscious form lies on the ground after his water torture in Episode 5.

Lee has many action scenes in Flower of Evil in which he showcases his athleticism, masculinity and martial arts skills. At the end of last year, Lee wielded his power and influence as the Brand Ambassador for the hospitality conglomerate, Shinsegae Chosun Hotel Inc. He worked in cooperation with the prestigious organization to hold a mini-concert for his international fans; it was a collaboration between the entertainment industry and the hospitality industry. Lee Joon Gi is a Korean POP Superstar - K-Music Superstar (K-Entertainer - a K-Singer-cum-K-Dancer)! Not every actor can be like him. Lee definitely contributes to the K-MUSIC industry.

The special Yuletide fan meeting, ‘Happy Christmas’ was held in Seoul on 14 December 2019. Lee, who looked gorgeous in his Liberclassy micro check, played the role of not just the ambassador for the conglomerate but also for South Korea.

Since it was a Christmas event, the handsome superstar sang his favourite Christmas song, ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ and some of his well-loved songs like ‘For A While’ and ‘Ma Lady’. Being a savvy and seasoned entertainer, he held sway over the audience with his charming talks, jokes, melodious songs and energetic dancing. The participants of the event which was held in the Shinsegae Chosun Hotel comprised international fans from Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China. But, most of them were from Japan as the ‘Special Event’ was advertised only in Lee’s Japanese fan website, Splendor. 

 









The emcee-cum-translator was Japanese. The fan concert was more intimate than his usual fan meetings as it provided an opportunity for fans to be closer to him. 

The event ended with a session of signing autographs and handshaking with about 600 hundred fans present who took advantage of the rare chance of admiring him not from a distance but at close quarters, and, interacting with him on a one-on-one basis. Though it must have been exhausting for him, Lee was appreciative of their love and support. While signing endless autographs, Lee smilingly displayed his charms, patience, joy and good-naturedness.

  





But it must be stressed that Lee Joon has been holding sold-out concerts in many cities in Asia almost every year since he catapulted to fame in 2005, so having fan concerts is nothing new to him.  His 'Delight' concerts were held in 2018 and 2019.

The Covid-19 disaster has cut short the activities of many actors and entertainers around the globe. It has also affected South Korea and Lee Joon Gi’s plans to hold concerts in Asia.
