Lee Joon Gi Reconnects With Choi Dae Hoon In Flower of Evil

FLOWER OF EVIL

RECONNECTS

LEE JOON GI

WITH

CHOI DAE HOON

One can say with confidence that it is time for a celebration. The filming set of Flower of Evil seems to be a reunion of stars who have a shared history with Lee Joon Gi. It harks back to the days when Lee Joon Gi was cast in the same dramas as Moon Chae Won and Jang Hee Jin. Choi Dae Hoon has been added to the list lately. It gives us a glimpse of what lies ahead: it is entirely possible that Lee, who has achieved many milestones in their previous collaborations, will forge a special bond with them in Flower of Evil.

Choi Dae Hoon has been spotted with the cast of Flower of Evil in two Instagram posts. Choi’s more recent dramas include Crash Landing on You (2019-2020), Nokdu Flower (2019), Heart Surgeons (2018) and Lawless Lawyer (2018).

None have been able to figure out his role as at this stage; almost everything is a guessing game. Since one photo shows him in a police station, it has been widely assumed that he, like Moon Chae Won, is also playing a homicide detective.

THE SCHOLAR WHO WALKS THE NIGHT (2015)

Lee Joon Gi’s life took a dramatic turn in 2015. He filmed the unique historical vampire drama The Scholar Who Walks The Night. Although his collaboration with Jang Hee Jin, who plays his long-suffering unrequited admirer, did not win him any major acting awards, his performance as the beautiful 150-year old vampire Kim Sung Yeol made a huge impact on the audience. It was also in that year that he won his second Seoul International Drama Best Actor Award for his 2014 Gunman in Joseon. 2015 was indeed an important turning point for Lee as he was offered the role of Commander Lee in his first Hollywood movie, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

LEE JOON GI AND MOON CHAE WON

In 2017, Lee and Moon Chae Won, the lead actors, portray NCI behavioural analysts or profilers in Criminal Minds: Korea. Moon plays an ambitious Alpha female who is obsessed with her work.

The Korean remake of Criminal Minds is one of the better Korean remake versions of American dramas. Stranger than fiction, many of the episodes are somewhat way better than the original version. The lead actors, like Lee Joon Gi, are magnificent. Even those who play cameo roles or the unsubs are recognizably better than their counterparts in the popular, multi-season American drama.

CRIMINAL MINDS (2017)

Lee Joon Gi has that kind of charisma, athleticism, physicality, martial arts training and acting skills that many actors lack.

There was a stupendous action scene in which Lee Joon Gi did his own exciting stunts but unfortunately, it had all been ripped from the drama. After all, there was a video to promote it before the airing of the first episode. Viewers have been short-changed; they have been robbed blind of the excitement and suspense promised in the video.

Lee Joon Gi won Soompi’s Best Actor Award for his incredible portrayal of Kim Hyun Joon, an experienced and multi-talented member of the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics), EOD (Explosives Disposal Unit), KNP (Korean National Police) and NCI (National Criminal Investigation) teams.

LEE JOON GI AND CHOI DAE HOON

12.05.2020 (Tuesday) is the second anniversary of Lawless Lawyer. Choi Dae Hoon starred with Lee in the 2018 masterpiece. Choi plays Seok Gwan Dong, a small-time gangster who graduates to murder after being groomed by big-time gangster, Ahn Oh Ju.

 LAWLESS LAWYER (2018)

Lee Joon Gi was crowned Best Male Asian Star in Singapore Starhub Night of the Stars in 2018 for his realistic portrayal of Bong Sang Pil, a legal eagle who fights against the corrupt judicial system.

Choi Dae Hoon is in a number of Lee Joon Gi’s amazing scenes in Lawless Lawyer. One is Choi Dae Woong’s death scene. The asinine Seok Gwan Dong played by Choi Dae Hoon had dangled Choi Dae Woong, Bong Sang Pil’s uncle over the edge of a tall building. Bong Sang Pil, who was lured to the scene, failed to save his uncle.

The expression of Lee’s face, resembles the subject of the painting, Scream by Edvard Munch. His face, contorted in obvious pain and horror, will forever be imprinted in the minds of the viewers.

LAWLESS LAWYER (2018)

Another memorable scene is the nightclub scene in which Bong Sang Pil (Lee Joon Gi) showcases his spectacular martial arts skills. The many amazing action scenes in Lawless Lawyer prove that Lee Joon Gi is the King of Action in dramas.

THE FLYING KNEE ATTACK

Another memorable scene is a hilarious one between Bong Sang Pil (with his merry gang) and Seok Gwan Dong in an artistically-designed bar. Under the hypnotic command of a wicked and bemused Bong Sang Pil, the drunk and comical Seok Gwan Dong did not sashay but wobbly catwalk down a long table. One has to point out the artistic detail - the Piet Mondrian backdrop of the room.

LAWLESS LAWYER (2018)

The edge-of-your-seat and furiously paced Lawless Lawyer is one of the most exciting and artistic dramas. It is unsurprising that it didn’t take long for Lee and Kim Jin Min’s influence to percolate through the Asian dramaland. Lee’s action scenes and the director’s filming techniques or ideas that are associated with Lawless Lawyer must have made such a huge impression that they have been seized upon and blatantly copied in Korea and outside of Korea. One must add that it is obviously an honest compliment to both Lee Joon Gi and Kim Jin Min.

Fans have posed these questions: Why aren’t Lee Joon Gi’s Criminal Minds: Korea and Lawless Attorney on Netflix? What about his other dramas, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Gunman in Joseon?

Mother’s Day falls on 10 May (Sunday) this year. Tribute must also be paid to Kim Cheol Gyu, the director of Flower of Evil, who has received recognition for his previous drama, Mother.

Flower of Evil, the most highly anticipated drama of 2020, is touted to be a psychological thriller with suspense and melodramatic elements. Little has filtered through the ranks of the production staff or the cast so the fans have been building their own narratives and making wild guesses. The drama will premiere on 8 July 2020 (Wednesday). The final broadcast will be on 27 August 2020 (Thursday). The 16-episode Wednesday-Thursday drama is written by Yoo Jung Hee, directed by Kim Cheol Gyu, and produced by MonsterUnion and Studio Dragon.
