The Sword of Aramoon: A Clash of Gods - Eun Seom versus Tagon

THE SWORD

OF

ARAMOON

A CLASH

OF

GODS

EUN SEOM

VERSUS

TAGON

The Sword of Aramoon is scheduled to premiere on tvN, TVING, Disney Plus, Hulu and Star Plus on 9 September 2023 at 9:20 pm. Set 8 years after Season 1, The Sword of Aramoon speaks of conflicts which will lead to a great battle on land between Eun Seom and Tagon. Both leaders seek to obtain The Sword of Aramoon Haesulla. Directed by the brilliant Director Kim Kwang Sik, the Saturday-Sunday television series is written by multiple-award winning screen-writing partners, Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yeon. The stunning scenes in the Eun Seom (Lee Joon Gi) character teaser is the work of many talented team members including the renowned Choi Chan Min, the Director of Photography / Cinematographer who is assisted by experienced Lighting Director, You Seok Moon.

The 12-episode high fantasy-saguek-action tale features thrilling action scenes involving Lee Joon Gi whose electrifying performance in the teaser must be lauded.

The viewers of The Sword of Aramoon are told that the Master of the Sword is the Chronicler of the Tale. The person, we are also told, is Eun Seom who details his exploits, adventures, fights and accomplishments and also those of his twin brother, Saya.

War has come to Arth. The first promotional poster of The Sword of Aramoon, which was released not long ago shows Eun Seom and Tagon confronting each other in the final battle for supremacy.

The question on the poster reads, ‘WHO WILL WIN THE FINAL WAR, WHO WILL TAKE ARTHDAL?’

It is quite obvious that Tagon is the king of Arthdal and he is defending his kingdom against Eun Seom.

After he killed his father, he declares that he is a living god, the reincarnation of Aramoon Haesulla.

But, now with the rise of Eun Seom who seeks to conquer Arthdal and with rebellion brewing within Arthdal, Tagon has to get legitimacy as king to rule over his own kingdom.

Eun Seom, the formidable leader of the Ago Union with brains, brawn and good looks, builds a coalition of 30 tribes in Arth. The athletic warrior, known for his consumate martial skill, is an accomplished horseman, a skillful archer and expert swordsman. All these make him an awe-inspiring warrior who appeals to all he leads. He and his army sweep with hurricane force towards Arthdal.

It should be exceedingly clear that Tagon, even if he wins the war, is not taking what is already his.

It is only logical that Eun Seom will take Arthdal – he will win the final war and he will conquer Arthdal and triumph over Tagon and will be the ruler of the whole of the Arth continent.

That being said, it must be emphasized that both leaders fight the war on an equal basis. Or, perhaps, as we shall see, the circumstances should tilt in Eun Seom's, not Tagon's, favour.

THE WRITING

ON

THE WALL

The winds of change are on Eun Seom’s side. Tagon is weighed down by many weaknesses and faces many challenges.

EUN SEOM

A LIVING GOD

THE REINCARNATION OF INAISHINGI

AND

THE REINCARNATION

OF

ARAMOON HAESULLA

Tagon already declared he is a living god, or the reincarnation of Aramoon Haesulla but Eun Seom challenges him.

Eun Seom, the reincarnation of Inaishingi, is also a living god. He aims to unmask the great pretender and claims what is his, the title of Aramoon Haesulla, the god of  harmony and unification of Arthdal.

Eun Seom wears confidence like his crown. He looks dignified and majestic with his bearing and demeanour. His regal air lends him the stature of a god-king. He is a god to the manner born. And, he is dressed for the role.

His clothes are really special with their unique design and texture. His sword in its scabbard which hangs by his waist adds interest to his appearance.

In the original image, the lovely blue tint of Eun Seom’s attire matches the darker blue of his belt. The brown part of his clothing gives him an added look of masculinity.

The enchanting attire and the colours suit him and make him stand out. He looks kingly and has the commanding authority of a king - like a heroic fantasy hero or god. An iconic look.

Eun Seom, born on the day of the Azure Comet, is destined to destroy the old Arthdal and bring about a new dawn in the ancient land of Arth.

Eun Seom and Saya, his older twin brother are born from the union of Ragaz, a Neanthal, and Asa Hon, a Saram or human.

There is a growing discontent among the people of Arth as there is a fear that the continent would be overrun by the Arthdal army led by the power-hungry and war-mongering king and queen.

There is a surge in support for Eun Seom because he is thought to be a living god, the reincarnation of Inaishingi. He is the only one who has survived Ago’s deadliest waterfall in a thousand years. The original Inaishingi, who had also survived the waterfall, is the unifying god of the Ago tribe, the god of the waterfall and god of justice.

Eun Seom successfully unites 300,000 people and forms a grand coalition of 30 clans, known as the Ago tribe, under his leadership to challenge Tagon. He is totally geared for war.

The people are convinced that the courageous leader is  the reincarnation of Aramoon Haesulla or Aramoon Haesulla in his Second Coming.

Eun Seom, an Igutu, has purple blood and eyes that glow purple when agitated.

Strangely, it is believed that Aramoon Haesulla is also an Igutu. It is prophesized that the god, Aramoon Haesulla, a god of two voices, will in his Second Coming to Arth, hold an ionicera flower.

The magical Sword of Aramoon is sent down from heaven for Eun Seom but Tagon tries to wrest it from his grasp. What  Tagon doesn’t know is Magic chooses who may wield it.

SAYA

AN ENEMY-IN-WAITING

Saya, who is the twin brother of Eun Seom, was adopted by Tagon and Taealha but kept in isolation in a tower named the Fortress of Fire for 20 years.

He is an Igutu and so is Tagon. They have purple blood and eyes that glow purple when driven to anger or under duress. The people of Arthdal hate Igutus.

The young man, who has a grudge against Taealha because she had murdered his beloved servant and lover, Senaere, seeks vengeance against her.

Saya will also hate his adoptive father, Tagon, if he knew the truth about the king. Tagon was the one who led Arthdal’s Daekan Force in The Great Hunt that nearly annihillated the Neanthdals, including his father, Ragaz. The Great Hunt should instead be called The Great Massacre. Tagon lives in mortal fear that his secrets will be revealed by Saya.

Saya, through years of harsh discipline and unscrupulous brainwashing, might prove to be Machiavellian. The immoral and cruel prince might even fight his twin brother.

But, who knows when he might switch sides and prove to be a destructive force to the Arthdal throne.

TANYA

The people of Arthdal are deeply religious and respect Tanya, the High Priest of Arthdal, who can cast spells and read the minds of others.

Athough the beautiful and peace-loving Tanya is able to consolidate her position by using the name of god, she is beset with many worries and is compelled to cooperate with Tagon and Taealha in order to protect her people, the Wahans.

Using the name of god, she exerts a moderating influence on the tyrannical and ambitious king and queen.

TAEALHA

THE OVERAMBITIOUS QUEEN

Tagon and Taealha, his queen, are similar.  Both are ruthless and would stop at nothing to achieve power. They both killed their own fathers for gain.

Lusting for power, the queen wants to unify the Arth continent and make a name for herself.

The power-crazy Taealha is the reason for Tagon’s rise but might also be the reason for his downfall.

She possesses the secret of making bronze. But, the Iron Age has come to Arthdal.

Yeolson, the father of Tanya, develops a technique to make steel blades. He is indispensible to Taealha, who wants to use the latest technology to advance her ambition.

MUBECK

AND

THE DAEKAN FORCE

Mubeck, the military stalwart, had in the past revealed to Tanya that three babies were born at the time of the Azure Comet. They are The Bell, The Sword and The Mirror who will bring about a new and better world. She is the Bell, Eun Seom is the Sword and Saya, the Mirror.

Mubeck is disappointed in Tagon; he knows the wickness of the king. Tagon had killed Asa Ron without any trial and Harim, the doctor who saved his life. What Mubeck does not know is Tagon kills those who know his secret that he is an igutu with purple blood.

It seems Tagon has to brace for a revolt of the Daekan Forces under the leadership of Mubeck.  He has to starve off their impending coup by going to war with Eun Seom to legitimize his rule over Arthdal.

NEANTHALS

THE MORTAL ENEMIES

OF
TAGON

During the Great Hunt, a horrible massacre was carried out by Tagon. Almost  all except 5 Neanthdals were exterminated. 4 males and I female (Nunbyeol) barely escaped with their lives.

The extremely strong Neanthdals have blue blood and eyes that glow blue when agitated. Their signature killing move is to pull out the hearts of their enemies with their bare hands.

The Neanthals would come for Tagon’s blood. They know that Eun Seom is an Igutu and the son of Ragaz and Asa Hon and they would surely come to his aid, if necessary.

XABARA AND THE MOMO TRIBE

Eun Seom had saved Xabara and her baby in a conflict. Xabara and her army swear to repay his kindness. If Eun Seom summons them to the battlefield, they would readily lend a hand.

TAGON

A TYRANNICAL KING

WHO CLAIMS TO BE THE REINCARNATION OF THE GOD

ARAMOON HAESULLA

(THE GREAT PRETENDER)

The tyrannical king, Tagon is his own enemy. He is overly greedy for power.

With his power-hungry queen to drive him forward, the first king of Arthdal, aspires to rule the continent of Arth. Tagon, the despot, inspires dread. Compared to the people whom he rules with an iron hand, he is barbaric. He may sometimes treat his subjects well but he is barbaric with his enemies.

Harbouring a terrible secret - a personal setback, Tagon is forced to kill those who discovers what he staunchly keeps hidden. He, an igutu with purple blood and eyes that glow purple when agitated, is Arthdal’s public enemy.

His claim to be Aramun Haesulla, a divine status, is endorsed by Tanya, the High Priest and all are expected to recognise his supreme authority.

DIVINE INTERVENTION

So, all these circumstances will lead Tagon to ruin. Who knows what might happen? It wouldn’t be surprising if there is also divine intervention.
