Flower of Evil boasts two remarkable actors, Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won, coming together as a team of dynamite-and-fire in the thriller-melodrama. Lee portrays the psychologically broken Do Hyun Soo, and Moon Chae Won plays the formidable detective, Cha Ji Won.

The lovey-dovey husband-wife relationship of the two main characters is marred by Do Hyun Soo’s complicated, dark past. Not even his staunchly loving, trusting and loyal wife could forestall the onslaught of vile and unjust accusations against the fugitive-turned-good citizen, Do Hyun Soo.

Flower of Evil is redolent with danger and intrigue. The centre of the drama, Do Hyun Soo, a fugitive with a dark, cloudy past, unwittingly takes on the identity of a comatose Baek Hee Sung, the accomplice of his psychopathic serial-killer father. Psychologically disturbed by his hideous past, the vulnerable metalcraft worker hides behind a mask carefully crafted to fool others.

What he does not foresee is that a future detective would fall hopelessly in love with him. The relationship is spelt out clearly. Cha Ji Won is the hunter and he, Do Hyun Soo, is the hunted in this love relationship. The promise of a stable home life and fatherhood, which opens a new world for him, has been carefully woven into the fabric of the story. The intriguing image of a vulnerable man with mental issues, who has a strong and passionate love relationship with his naive wife, is precisely what makes Flower of Evil so fascinating. The melodrama is perfectly suited for a strong female to fight for her powerless man who has been unjustly treated all his life.

Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won perfectly convey the love and passion of the perfect or ideal drama couple. The bed scene in Flower of Evil, which is beautifully filmed, openly displays Lee’s rippling back muscles. It must have sent waves of excitement among the female viewers.

The real psychopath, Baek Hee Sung played by Kim Ji Hoon, poses no physical danger to Do Hyun Soo because of the effects of his coma but the story is told in such a way that their final confrontation is made more thrilling and chilling by Do Hyun Soo's insanity which is perfectly portrayed by Lee Joon Gi.

The vastly entertaining and thrilling television series plays on the audience’s fear of psychopathic serial killers and psychologically unstable individuals. The weaving of intriguing symbols and metaphors into the dream-like tale by the award-winning director spices up the drama. Flower of Evil is hailed as a ground-breaking television series.
