Multihyphenate superstar Lee Joon Gi made his Hollywood debut with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in 2017. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the highest-grossing film in the whole franchise, was released on 23 December 2016 in Japan and on 27 January 2017 in the United States. Despite Lee being in a cameo role, the massive turnout of his fans in cinemas to support him, particularly his Chinese fans, proves his power and influence in Asia. 27 January is the fifth anniversary of the film.

Resident Evil is a science fiction-horror film series based on the Japanese game franchise of the same name by Capcom. The films, except the last one (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), centre on Alice (Milla Jovovich), a character created for the films. In Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the sixth instalment of the film series, Lee Joon Gi plays Commander Lee who helms the evil Umbrella Corporation.

Milla Jovovich, who was in awe of Lee Joon Gi, gushed over him in her interviews. The impressed Milla Jovovich declared, ‘Lee Joon Gi is a scene stealer. In Final Chapter, he’s an incredible villain. When I saw his performance, I couldn’t believe it.’ Lee, unlike most Hollywood actors, did not use doubles. ‘It’s a privilege to work with this incredible actor and he’s such a wonderful human being.’ ‘He’s a master at what he does.’ ‘I felt like I can just watch and learn from him.’ Lee also impressed the director, Paul Anderson.
