In Again My Life, Woo Yong Soo, a 70-plus real
estate tycoon played by Lee Soon-jae, takes Kim Hee Woo portrayed by
Lee Joon Gi, as his apprentice. Having a Master-Apprentice or Mentor-Mentee
relationship, Woo guides the young man on the basics of real estate
auctions. Lee Joon Gi and Lee
Soon-Jae collaborated seven years ago in the 2015 MBC vampire drama, The
Scholar Who Walks The Night, in which they played vampire and Joseon king
respectively in an alternate Joseon kingdom. Recently, when King
Lear was performed at the Seoul
Arts Center, the veteran actor played the title role.   Lee Soon-jae, a household name in South Korea, has a prolific
career in the Korean showbusiness industry, winning countless awards and
accolades in his 65 years as an actor. He is the oldest actor to have played Lear. It has been Lee Soon-jae's lifelong ambition
to play Lear and Professor Lee Hyun-woo, the director of the production, made
his dream come true. Professor Lee, a Shakespearean expert, is an English
professor at Soon Chun Hyan University and Vice-President of the Shakespeare
Association of Korea. The 87-year-old Lee Soon-jae is truly amazing;
he was on the stage not only for over three (3) hours but also for 23 performances
from 30 October to 21 November 2021. According to a report, Lee Soon-jae memorises lines before
going to bed, ‘takes herbal medicine, and manages his stamina…’      King Lear, the greatest Shakespeare tragedy ever written, speaks of an old, foolish and narcissistic king and his three daughters, two of whom are liars. Lear wants to hand over his power and wealth completely to them but not before they flatter him and lavish love on him publicly. When his youngest daughter refuses to pander to his vanity, he warns, ‘Nothing will come of nothing’. Although she is Lear’s favourite daughter, she gains no favours from him if she does not fawn over him. He disinherits her and banishes her from his kingdom. Lear’s weakness is he values appearances above reality.
