On 10 December, Namoo Actors announced that Kim Jae-kyung (32) would be playing Kim Han Mi, the beautiful and brainy ally of Kim Hee Woo, portrayed by Lee Joon Gi in Again My Life. There are 3 beautiful Kim girls in the life of Kim Hee Woo, the most eligible bachelor in the Prosecution world: Kim Hee Ah (Kim Ji-eun), Kim Kyu Ri (Hong Bi-ra) and Kim Han Mi (Kim Jae-kyung). It seems that the Kim girls have formed an alliance with Kim Hee Woo. Kim and his Kim Angels will certainly give the audience a wonderful piece of time they’ll never forget.
A question pops out in everyone’s mind. ‘Who, among the three luscious beauties, will end up with Kim Hee Woo?’ Some may pooh-pooh the possibility of a ‘Battle of The Kims’. Would they be involved in a catfight, clawing and punching at each other for the affections of the handsome and sexy young man?
The manga does not have an answer but most likely, it would be the charming Kim Hee Ah who intrigues him. He might give up all pretence of indifference and end up with the daughter of the CEO of the Chun Ha conglomerate. Though the vivacious Kim Han Mi seems to be a fighter for his affections, she might have to face the truth some day. The feisty but realistic Kim Kyu Ri has already understood from the very beginning that she is not destined to be Kim Hee Woo’s other half.
Kim Jae-kyung, before transitioning to acting full-time, was the leader of Rainbow, a South Korean girl pop group. In 2018, Kim Jae-kyung won Best Supporting Actress in the MBC drama, Bad Papa and in 2019, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for SBS’ The Secret Life of My Secretary. She also starred in the 2021 drama, The Devil Judge.
Kim Han Mi, the illegitimate daughter of Kim Seok Hoon, the evil Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul District Prosecution Office, is compelled to live below the radar because her father fears that his extra-marital affair would be discovered. Suffering from an inferiority complex, she ingratiates herself with the members of a gang of school bullies.
School bullying stem from self-loathing and low self-esteem. Bullies probably do not have strong father figures or good male role models in their lives. Again My Life will cast light on whether former school bullies should be given a chance to redeem themselves. Kim Han Mi’s story seems like one of redemption.
In Again My Life, the determined and diligent Kim Hee Woo has dragged himself from the bottom position to the first position in the form. The newly minted superstar of the school is not only a good role model for the students but also a hero because he has stood up to the school bullies. The starstruck Kim Han Mi tried to bag the handsome young man but Kim Hee Woo couldn’t resist pointing out that bullies like her are abhorrent. He sniffs at her and tells her upfront that she stinks like poison from her cigarette-smoking habit. His obvious disapproval of her must have touched a raw nerve.
Upon learning that Kim Seok Hoon is Kim Han Mi’s father on their high school graduation day, Kim Hee Woo develops a genuine interest in her life. Is he paying attention to her in the name of compassion?
Since he has been blessed with another shot at life, Kim Hee Woo probably thinks that Kim Han Mi deserves another chance to pursue higher education.
It seems that the suave Kim Hee Woo has a smooth, persuasive tongue. He could pile on the charm if necessary. The young man sparkles with life when he glibly tells Kim Han Mi that her beauty, brains and popularity would go to waste if she doesn’t pursue her academic studies up to tertiary level. If it wasn’t for his slick talk, Kim Han Mi’s future would have been bleak. One wonders if Kim Han Mi carries a torch for Kim Hee Woo.
Kim Hee Woo’s guiding hand and nurturing attention, raise Kim Han Mi’s self-esteem. The young lady learns to love and value herself, and appreciate her gifts and talents. With her maturity and confidence, she summons enough courage to defy her father’s order to marry into a rich but disreputable family. In the future, she would prove to be a staunch and valuable ally in Kim Hee Woo’s quest to bring criminals to justice.
Again My Life is the collaborative effort of Director Han Chul Soo, Lee Byeong-heon (screen adaptation), co-scriptwriters Jay & Kim Yul, Samhwa Networks and StudioS. Speculations that the drama will be a masterpiece are rife. Again My Life is scheduled to air in the first half of 2022.
