Lee Joon Gi recently uploaded a picture of his GPS running watch ostensibly to share details of his running practice but what was clearly noticeable was his sun-kissed skin. This must have been the result of his visit to a tanning salon. The film and television legend and icon has been keeping a punishing running schedule presumably to toughen up for his upcoming Mystery-Comedy-Action television series, Gyeongbokgung Detective Agency. It was reported that the A-list actor has been offered the role of King Hyejong, and if he has already accepted, it is a massive coup for the production company. Lee Joon Gi is known for his professionalism, dedication and commitment to his craft and he is celebrated for his versatility and ability to transform himself for different characters.

The multihyphenate, whose pitch-perfect performance in his dual roles of the twins, Aramun and Saya in The Sword of Aramun, has astounded and impressed the global audiences. No other actor could have executed a similar performance in the Mythological-War-Action-Epic television series as amazingly as Lee has. Aramun is greatly beloved by the audience. But that cannot be said of his twin brother, Saya who, although likeable, is offensive and irritating at the same time. Lee bought out the vulnerability, courage and brokenness of the twins so perfectly. The depth that Lee has brought to the television series couldn’t be duplicated. Lee's performance is the stuff of legends. Seriously, who can act so amazingly, perform those spectacular action stunts and at the same time, exert such a powerful and seductive aura in the series? He was flawless. It is the best casting decision in television history.

The multihyphenate Lee Joon Gi’s upcoming role as King Hyejong is still wrapped in secrecy. Lee’s King Hyejong, the hilarious fictional Joseon Sherlock Holmes, and Yi Seo, his royal historian who has a photographic memory, are probably the only members of the clandestine Gyeongbokgung investigation bureau. The wacky king probably has multiple intelligences and can be spoken of as insane, comical, shrewd, witty, articulate, kind and dangerous in the same breath.

It is expected that the uniquely hilarious story, the innovative storytelling and the unimaginable worldbuilding will be the most exciting in television history. The tentatively titled Gyeongbokgung Detective Agency, which is written by So Min Seon and produced by Studio N, will stream and air in 2026. The crucial decision on the major players, the mega-streamer and the airing station have yet to be revealed.

Fans envision that Lee Joon Gi would take the local and global audiences by storm, leaving them in awe of his inimitable, impressive acting style, emotional depth, commanding, seductive presence and spectacular action performance. Banking on 2026 to be an amazing year for the multihyphenate, they expect that he would take their hopes and turn them into world-wide glory.

Fans are delighted with the news of Lee Joon Gi’s upcoming comedy-mystery-action television series, tentatively entitled, Gyeongbokgung Detective Agency. It is rumoured that Lee had gone to a tanning studio in Seoul, presumably to have his skin tanned so that he would have a sun-kissed look for his new role as King Hyejong, the demented Gyeongbokgung bloodhound. All sorts of news that have been swirling around in the industry make it difficult for one to shift the truth from the rumours.

Everyone has gone spinning new stories or guesses about his upcoming role in the television series. The name of King Hyejong, the royal Joseon Sherlock Holmes, does not appear in the prestigious list of Joseon kings. He is probably a much-feared, eloquent and powerful but demented, tyrannical king - a mad genius. One’s guess is that his existence has been ERASED from all Joseon records and the list we see today is a sanitised royal list. There might have been a Joseon conspiracy, an Erasure Edict, to depose of Hyejong and scrub the phantom king clean from history. King Hyejong could also be a fictional character.

Fans are waiting impatiently for Lee Joon Gi and the production team’s important decisions.
