Script Reading: Lee Joon Gi Plays The Titular Role in TVN'S Fantasy War Saga, The Sword of Aramoon

SCRIPT READING

LEE JOON GI

PLAYS

THE TITULAR ROLE

IN

TVN’S

FANTASY WAR SAGA

THE SWORD

OF

ARAMOON

Lee Joon Gi plays the powerful titular role in The Sword of Aramoon, tvN's 12-episode fantasy-action television series. Portraying the identical twins, Eun Seom, the legendary hero of the exciting saga, and Saya, his twin brother, is no easy feat but Lee Joon Gi (and the television series) will surely surpass our wildest expectations. Eun Seom is THE Sword. The presence of the very popular and sterling Lee Joon Gi in the intriguing and unique series makes The Sword of Aramoon the most highly anticipated television series of 2023.

The twins are formidable Igutus; they are of barbarian-human ancestry, half Neandal and half human (Neandal and Saram). They have eyes that flash purple, and purple blood flows in their veins.

Neandals, a humanoid species (not Neanderthals), have blue eyes and blue blood. Sarams are humans. Blue blood (Neandal) plus red blood (Saram) equals purple blood (Igutu).

According to the ancient fantasy tale, the owner of the sword is the writer of this exciting historical saga.

The Sword of Aramoon is believed to be a groundbreaking series which will shape how we perceive South Korean television dramas.

Director Kim Kwang Sik and the screenwriters, Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yeon were present for the script reading.

Of the 4 main actors, Lee Joon Gi, Jang Dong Gun and Kim Ok Vin were present at the Reading Session. Shin Sae Kyeong caught covid-19.

The title of the television series, The Sword of Aramoon, has 3 meanings.

Firstly, the Sword of Aramoon refers to the PHYSICAL sword that belongs to the ancient god, Aramoon Haesulla.

Eun Seom has, in his possession, the physical sword called The Sword of Aramoon. He has become the owner and custodian of the magical physical Sword. (Is it made of iron? Arthdal has moved into the IRON AGE)

Aramoon Haesulla, the god of harmony and unification, is the Founder of Arthdal. It was said that Aramoon Haesulla would send down 3 heavenly objects when he wishes to end the world.

The star-shaped bell had been sent down to Tanya in Arthdal Chronicles Season 1.

In this sequel, The Sword of Aramoon, the physical sword would be sent down to Eun Seom.

The third heavenly object is the Mirror which will be in the hands of Saya.

Secondly, Eun Seom is the sword - the INSTRUMENT through which the will of the god, Aramoon Haesulla, is achieved. He is the tool to destroy Tagon, build a new world and bring about a new dawn.

Being the Chosen One of the ancient god, Aramoon, he is the metaphorical sword (instrument) of Aramoon. The sword is a symbol of military power, strength, courage and leadership.

Eun Seom is, thus, The titular SWORD  - THE SWORD OF ARAMOON.

Thirdly, it is implied that Eun Seom is Aramoon since the sword belongs to him. He is, in fact, the reincarnation of the god, Aramoon Haesulla.

Whoever mooted the idea or the title, The Sword of Aramoon, is a genius.

Lee Joon Gi holds court in the Script Reading session for the television series. He sets the tone for the Script Reading session by modulating his voice and tone to effectively communicate his message. As Eun Seom, he stuns as he suddenly shouts commands to his troops in his powerful voice. ‘You’re coming with me to strike the base! Under the name of Inaishingi’. His voice drops softly to a reassuring tone, ‘Don’t worry. I’m on my way to Arthdal to save the Wahan and keep my promise.’ None can deny that Lee Joon Gi, like a snake charmer, has the gift of mesmerising the audience. He is a great actor and entertainer.

Inaishingi, the god of justice and the waterfall, is also the unifying god of the Ago tribe. He is the only one who can claim to have survived Ago’s deadliest waterfall and none has challenged his feat for a thousand years until the appearance of Eun Seom. The courageous Igutu warrior can openly boast of having survived that deadly waterfall.

Eun Seom, the most formidable warrior of the east, has become the leader of the Ago Union, which comprises 30 clans. He heads the fighting forces of the union to challenge the might of Tagon, who falsely claims to be the reincarnation of Aramoon. Eun Seom’s powerful invasion forces set out to free the Wahan people from his grasp and wipe out the evil Tagon, the pretender, once and for all.

The fact that Eun Seom is revealed to be Inaishingi has aroused resentment in the warped mind of Saya. Saya, who has turned deadly traitorous against his identical twin brother, is given the important  role of Commander of Arthdal’s army to conquer and subdue Eum Seom’s allied forces. Perhaps, the dangerous and manipulative couple, Tagon and Taealha, has exploited the naïve Saya.

The insanely jealous twin bitterly declares, ‘Now we are enemies…. Someone I must kill. Of course Eun Seom must die!’

One question that comes to mind is, 'Will their shared DNA and genetic predispostion or twin telepathy bring them back together again?

One shudders to think of Saya’s jealousy. A tale about ‘The Man In The Iron Mask’ comes to mind. It tells of the cruel King Louis XIV of France who has a secret twin brother, whose face is hidden in an iron mask and whom he keeps imprisoned in a fort. Will Saya turn out to be as cruel and pitiless?

Eun Seom will certainly defeat Tagon in a decisive battle but the fight between Eun Seom and Saya generates the most interest. The way the fight is staged with only one actor is difficult, even with special effects. There are many movies in which one actor plays twins but there aren't movies or television series which feature twins in a combat scene.

The combat scene between Eun Seom and Saya, which will be groundbreaking, would be the most anticipated fight scene in the fantasy-action television series. It will be the most thrilling and intriguing fight. But the chilling combat will be poignant and heart-wrenching if one of them has to die.

Shin Sae Kyeong, who had unfortunately fallen ill with covid-19, was absent for the Script Reading. The beautiful actor plays Tanya, the High Priest of Arthdal. In her powerful position, Tanya wisely invokes the name of the Arthdal god to establish peace in the kingdom.

Viewers are intensely curious about Tanya’s romantic relationship with Eun Seom. Will Saya, the jealous twin, drive a wedge between the two?

Jang Dong Gun plays Tagon, an ambitious war-mongering tyrant who wages wars to maintain his legitimacy as the king of Arthdal.

Tagon, like the twins, is a closet Igutu. He fears his secret would be exposed. Being an Igutu is a stigma in Arthdal. Saya, Eun Seom’s twin, who knows the secrets of the weakness of Arthdal, is a threat to him.

Tagon is an imposter, the fake Aramoon. He falsely proclaims that he is the reincarnation of Aramoon Haesulla, the powerful god of Arthal who is also the god of harmony and unification.

A slow poison seeps through the veins of Arthdal. Tagon becomes a dictator and a tyrant. He is the law of the land. He dictates that no one could have anything ‘without his permission’

Mubeck, a courageous warrior, collides with him. There is dissent within his army. Tagon questions, ‘Is Mubeck your king or am I?’

MUBECK (Park Hae Joon)

Kim Ok Vin portrays Taealha, an astute and overly ambitious female politician who is not satisfied with just being Tagon’s woman.

The world has changed since Tagon ascended the Arthdal throne many years ago. The Age of Iron has come to Arthdal. Taealha’s Hae tribe no longer has a monopoly of metals including bronze. Competition is inevitable. Wielding enormous power, the hard taskmaster commands her iron workers to work as if their lives depended on it to produce top of the line iron products.

If Tagon is ambitious, Taealha is avaricious and power-hungry. If he is cruel, she is murderously savage. Her thirst and appetite for power exceeds his. Encouraging Tagon to kill his prisoners, she seems like someone who would put a knife in a person’s back at the very first opportunity.

Jung Suk Yong plays Yeolson, the father of Tanya. They are from the Wahan Tribe of Lark.

Many other actors were present at the Script Reading session.
