Gong-gil, a beautiful and effeminate clown portrayed by Lee Joon Gi attracts the attention and favour of the tyrannical king when he, together with other clowns, performs a skit ridiculing the corrupt court officials. The King and The Clown, which was released on 29 December 2005, was chosen as South Korea’s official submission for the 2006 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
