AND GLOBAL FANS

The Sword of Aramoon, the groundbreaking Korean high fantasy war-based television series about the mythical world of Arth, stars Lead Actor Lee Joon Gi, his Leading Lady, Shin Sae Kyeong, and other main actors, Jang Dong Gun and Kim Ok Vin. Lee Joon Gi, who has been very much lauded and won many International awards not only for his acting perfomances but also other talents (USA, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand) plays the TITULAR CHARACTER – Eun Seom who is The Sword of Aramoon. He also plays Eun Seom’s identical twin brother, Saya. The series speaks of the fight between good and evil - the fight between the three Chosen Ones, Eun Seom, Saya and Tanya, and the evil pair, Tagon and Taealha. The locally and globally popular multihyphenate is not only a sterling actor but also a talented martial artist, singer, dancer and model.

Eun Seom, The Master or The Owner of The Sword, is the writer of the tale, The Sword of Aramoon. The events are seen through the eyes of Eun Seom.

In the telling of the story, Eun Seom, The Chronicler of The Tale, clarifies the causes, processes and aftermath of the brutal wars.

Lee Joon Gi plays the TITULAR CHARACTER – Eun Seom who is The Sword of Aramoon as well as Saya, his identical twin brother.

It must be emphasized that Eun Seom and Saya, NOT Tagon, are The Most Important Characters of the story.

WHAT DOES THE SWORD OF ARAMOON MEAN?

1

The Sword of Aramoon means The Sword belonging to THE god, ARAMOON HAESULLA.

2

Eun Seom is THE SWORD.

He is the INSTRUMENT of the god, Aramoon Haesulla.

He is the INSTRUMENT by which the will of the god, Aramoon Haesulla, can be carried out - to destroy the evil Tagon.

3

Eun Seom is the Master of the Sword, i.e., he owns the sword. The sword is in his possession. The sword belongs to him.

Eun Seom is Aramoon Haesulla or The Second Coming of Aramoon Haesulla.

The sterling actor, Lee Joon Gi, who plays the dual roles of identical twin brothers, Eun Seom and Saya, is undeniably at the centrestage of the war based-series. Lee, admired for his powerful athleticism and sensual physicality, showcases his amazing martial arts skills and action prowess.

Performing his own stunts, Lee Joon Gi is depicted at his most savage - as the battle-seasoned brutal Igutu beast, the half Neanthal-half Saram Eun Seom.

An actor like Lee Joon Gi can only be described in superlatives. His tour de force performance in his movies and television series, fabulous martial and action skills, powerful athleticism and sensual physicality make him the favourite actor of the global kdrama community.

Eun Seom, a first-class hero, as portrayed by Lee Joon Gi, is idolised by men from the different tribes for his dare-devil desperation and dogged determination to destroy Tagon’s hold on Arthdal. No other leader in Arth is feared by his foes. And none has the faculty of winning the affection and confidence of the 30 tribes in Arth which he has reunited to challenge Tagon.

Eun Seom is a symbol of great courage. A celebrated hero. The number of his successful attacks gives him a name most feared in Arth. Like an eagle watching his prey from a higher ground, the fearless and savage Igutu leader sweeps down on his adversaries. Eun Seom is a marvel. The tireless energy, iron endurance, great determination coupled with his cyclonic leaps and kicks make him a force to be reckoned with in the world of Arth.

Saya is the older brother of Eun Seom whom he was separated from at birth during The Great Hunt led by Tagon. Most of the Neanthals were massacred. Their Saram mother saved Eun Seom but Saya was adopted by the Tagon, the murderer of their Neanthal father.

Erroneously believing Eun Seom to be a weakling, he, as Arthdal’s top military strategist, plans to combine forces with Eun Seom, to dethrone the evil Tagon. When he finally realised his brother has been crowned The Inaishingi, he was shocked and jealous.

Once he learns that his younger brother, the Inaishingi, is the most powerful and fearsome military leader of the East, Saya's stance, attitude and demenour changes.

The facial expressions of Lee Joon Gi as Saya is stunning. He has slipped under the skin of the crestfallen Saya whose ego has been deflated, no - smashed to smithereens.

Envy, egotism and a sense of entitlement reduce men to beasts.

The competitive Saya, would initially because of sibling rivalry, challenge his younger brother, Eun Seom to a fight. He wants to test and suppress his brother to prove that he is the better twin but it is futile.

Eun Seom’s meteoric rise is inexorable and unstoppable.

Saya would soon be won over by the dogged Inaishingi. Fate and destiny would bring him to his senses.

The viewers understand Saya’s troubled and confused feelings; they sympathize and emphathize with him.

It must be reiterated that Lee Joon Gi’s facial transformation is amazing.

The Sword of Aramoon shines a light on the Senoir-Junior question.

Does seniority bestow privilege, preference, importance, precedence and an upperhand to an older person?

Does being a junior, however talented or superior in skills, be forced to be relegated to the background?

Should juniors, who are a cut above the rest, be suppressed because of their age?

Saya, who is overcome by ego, jealousy, a sense of entitlement and the superiority complex, unreasonably insists on discriminating against his younger twin. Senoirs are to be respected but that respect must be earned.

The fact is people in Arth are dying like flies under the rule of Tagon. In the end, Saya comes to his senses and makes an about-turn. It dawns on him that he is part of the destined trio who will make a difference to the future of Arth.  Together, the twins and Tanya, the High Priest, who as The Sword (Eun Seom), The Mirror (Saya) and The Star-Shaped Bell (Tanya) will crush Tagon as destined by the will of the gods.

Eun Seom will not only end up as the god, Inaishingi but also inherit the powers of the god, Aramoon Haesulla. Imbued with the combined powers, he will bring about a new dawn and a new era for the continent of Arth.

The global audiences are able to see and feel Lee Joon Gi’s awesome acting, be it his intense and raw emotions or unexpressed undercurrents of emotion. His eye energy is intriguingly impressive as his eyes show Eun Seom and Saya’s souls. His tour de force performance as shown in the various collection of teasers and their variations on different platforms makes the television series the most highly awaited 2023 TV show.

The eyes of Lee Joon Gi who portrays Eun Seom and Saya are the window to their soul. The powerful eye energy that emanates from their eyes tell us the emotions that they are feeling.

The television series, which is set 8 years after Tagon had ascended the Arthdal throne, sees the fearsome Eun Seom welding together a collection of disparate tribes into the fearsome Ago Union. He rises to challenge the tyrannical king, Tagon and his overly ambitious wife, Taealha.

Eun Seom reunited the strong and determined allies from 30 tribes to form the powerful Ago Union Army. The soldiers share a sense of mission, duty and honour. His half Neanthdal-half Saram heritage enables Eun Seom to enlist the help of the physically superstrong but savage Neanthdals.

A hero is defined as ‘a person who is admired for their great courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.’

Heroism rests on the psychological foundations of self-confidence, self-esteem and empathy. The way the heroes fight is the same: selfless, dutiful, virtuous (never for money or self-interest) and always against the odds, be the odds superior numbers in wars or the forces of nature. Courage is the key component of heroism. These define Eun Seom and Tanya.

Saya has been appointed as the Commanding General of the Arthdal Army by Tagon to defeat Eun Seom and his Ago Union Army. Tagon is playing one twin against the other twin.

In the Talmud, the question is asked, ‘Who is a hero?’ The answer is, ‘He who has conquered his evil inclinations.’  This describes Saya who also has other heroic qualities.

Eun Seom and Saya are the MOST important heroes of  The Sword of Aramoon.

The heroic is always courageous but the courageous is not always heroic.

Tagon and Taealha, who may be courageous in their own ways, are villains in the story.

They are certainly not heroes nor heroic.

A simple definition of villain: A villain is a bad person who harms other people or breaks the law.

The latest promotional advertisement release by tvN, an Epic War video, totally sums up the wars in the Arth continent.

War, which is normally depicted in red because of the violence, bloodbath, brutality and destruction, is reexamined in various stunning colours by Director Kim Kwang Sik and skillfully depicted by cinematographer Choi Chan Ming.

The Sword of Aramoon is splashed with a diversity of colours: red, blue, yellow, green, black and white in its various tints and shades.

It seems the final battle, The Battle Between Good and Evil, is played out on the level plains and grasslands of Arth, the pine forest and probably, the cliffs.

The showdown between Eun Seom and Tagon in the pine forest probably leads to the cliffs in the final moments. But they fight on level ground as shown in the close confrontation.

The teasers released by tvN are stunning; they excite the senses. The viewers know that Director Kim is a visionary and are excitedly waiting for the high fantasy war television series to unfold starting from 9 September 2023. They are also amazed by the awesome cinematography; the tale is filmed like a movie.

THE WAR POSTER

THE FINAL CONFRONTATION

There are 3 objections to the war poster.

ONE

EUN SEOM, THE HERO AND LEADING CHARACTER
OF

THE TALE

IS PLACED

ON A LOWER LEVEL

THAN

THE VILLIAN

The final battle for Arthdal is fought in on the grasslands and plains of Arth but the final confrontation between Eun Seom and Tagon is fought on level ground, not on sloping or slanting ground.

Eun Seom, the HERO and the LEADING CHARACTER in the television series, is intentionally placed on a very much lower level than Tagon, the villain in the piece.

Tagon is villainous, yet he is given the competitive edge over the hero. He is made to appear to be more than superior to the heroic Eun Seom played by the formidable multitalented actor, Lee Joon Gi.

The poster is tilted in favour of Tagon and by extension, Jang Dong Gun.

We know from the story that Tagon would be defeated in the end.

Eun Seom and Tagon’s final confrontation ends in the confined space of the pine forest. It is on level ground, not sloping ground. Even if it ends up on the cliffs, it will be on level ground.

TWO

THE HERO IS HALF-HIDDEN

Tagon faces lots of riots and rebellions that he tried to subdue or suppress with brutality and cruelty. Anyone who opposes him is killed. Tagon commands, ‘Kill everyone who opposes me!’

Tagon faces a lot of obstructions and opposition

The fearsome Eun Seom and his loyal Ago Union army, a coalition of 30 tribes

Tanya, the High Priest, who possesses magic powers

Saya, his adopted son, who wants to dethrone him

Mubaek, the high-minded leader of the Daekan Forces

Taealha, his overly ambitious queen, will physically fight him for power.

There is even a prediction that Tagon’s world would come to an end.

The most important fact: With the combination of the powers of the two gods, Inaishingi and Aramoon Haesulla, Eun Seom will be able to conquer Arthdal and defeat Tagon.

The question then is: The viewers’ line of vision is obstructed. Why is that obstruction placed in front of Eun Seom and not Tagon? Two (2) huge fallen soldiers obstruct the view of the onlookers while Tagon is standing clear of any obstacles.

Even from an artistic perspective or viewpoint, the two soldiers seem much bigger than necessary.

Eun Seom, the Leading Character or handsome HERO is blocked from view. Isn’t this poster biased?

Suggestion

Why not move the helmeted man and the fallen soldier to the front of Tagon. Or move them elsewhere. Now, how do you feel?

THREE

THE HERO BLENDS WITH THE BACKGROUND

The Wardrobe Department has dressed Eun Seom in a handsome blue-tinted war attire but the colour seems to to be faint and faded or washed off his clothes in the poster. (The Wardrobe Department must be lauded for designing the beautiful clothes for the heroes and the villains. The details are astonishing.)

Eun Seom seems to have blended with the background of greyish figures while Tagon can be easily seen. Tagon stands out. Is that even unbiased?

Inspite of all these, Eun Seom still looks majestic and regal.

Below is a truer picture of the situation.

updated

But what about Eun Seom and Saya’s love for Tanya? Eun Seom has won the war and successfully concluded what he had set out to do. He has vanquished the evil villains and has taken Arthdal, the final city in his list of conquests.

We aren’t sure about the love triangle but it will be heartbreaking. Tanya can only choose one man. Destined for greater things, Eun Seom would probably give her up and ride off into the sunset to a new series set in the future, perhaps in the modern world.

We are preparing our box of tissues.

The writers must be lauded for their splendid story. We are yet to be told the details and the twists and turns of the tale but we are waiting to be surprised even more.
