The commemoration
of the 17th anniversary of The King and The Clown took place at 12 noon on 16
October 2022 at KOFIC (Korean Film Council) in Busan. Helmed by Director Lee Jun
Ik, the 2005 movie sold 12.3 million tickets, an amazing feat then and even
now. Its worldwide gross is US$74.5 million. The movie, the director and the
cast won many local and international awards. It was reported that Director Lee Joon Ik
called Lee Joon Gi, ‘A Gift Sent by God’ at the event.

attended by the director and fans. The director lavishly praised Lee Joon Gi,
a rookie at that time, for having left an indelible impression as Gong-gil,
the clown. ‘We cast him based on his
audition. I never thought he would do such a great job. Lee Joon Gi didn’t
have any experience yet. Despite all the worries, he did a brilliant job.
There were many magical moments where he outdid himself.’
 A video screened during the
event contained congratulatory messages from Jang Won-seok, the production
manager, and some members of the cast including Lee Joon Gi, Jung Jin-young
(King Yeonsan), Kang Sung-yeon (Jang Nok-su) and Yoo Hae-jin (Yuk-gab)
