HAPPY LEAP DAY
29 FEBRUARY 2020
Fans have to pinch themselves hard. Imagine Baek Hee
Sung (Lee Joon Gi) and Cha Ji Won (Moon Chae Won)
joined together in holy matrimony! The psychopathic killer and the
feisty homicide and violent crimes detective are strange bedfellows in the
new TVN drama, The Flower of Evil. Intriguing. It’s too good
to be true. The Battle of the Sexes awaits the audience. Viewers expect husband
and wife to run amok; there will be a bloody clash of wills. How did they
fall in love and get married in the first place? Didn't someone say
that 'Love is blind, marriage is the eye-opener'?
Baek Hee Sung and Cha Ji Won
The thought that Baek Hee Sung could be
compared to Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, might strike
his fans. Janus’ name is associated with January. A god with
two (2) faces. He looks at The Past and The Future at the same time.
Likewise, Baek Hee Sung is a man with two faces. A
psychopath and a hero to his family. He has a horrible past but what is his
future?
Given a second chance in life, a life that had previously been
stained by evil, would Baek Hee Sung be able to live happily
ever after with his close-knit family? Baek, a loving, devoted and handsome
husband is the man of Cha Ji Won’s dreams. Baek Hee Sung is
the enticing image of a marvellous family man, doting father and adoring
husband. But, his life would be fraught with the fear that his dreadful
secrets would be become public knowledge one day.
What, if his past catches up with him, and his peaceful home
turns hostile? If he loses control of himself, would his marriage be in
absolute shambles? Would he be unhinged again and would his drastically
altered mental and psychological state drive them apart?
Lee Joon Gi’s portrayal of Baek Hee Sung, a man
with an edge of grave danger about him, is expected to get the viewer’s heart
pounding. One can imagine the final confrontation between Mr. and Mrs
Baek, knife-wielding and gun-toting marital partners. Once they run amok,
kitchen knives, metal chopsticks, chopping boards, garden shears, darts,
glass bottles, spades and hoes might slice through the air! Would there be a
shoot-out too? Well, Baek Hee Sung, with his overpowering
strength can beat anyone to a pulp. Would he, in his blind rage, set upon his
beloved wife with his martial arts, especially, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,
and pummel her to death? Is it going to be a nerve-wracking fight to
the death? The question is: Would both be alive to tell the tale?
Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae
Won in Criminal Minds
Moon Chae Won, who has shown some action skills in the 2017 TVN
drama, Criminal Minds, is expected to use her skills to wage war
against her beloved screen husband. It would be nothing short of a miracle
if Baek Hee Sung and Cha Ji Won emerge
unscathed from their battle. Fans dread to watch the ugly fight that’s
shaping up but hope springs eternal.
Some pertinent questions concerning our front-and-centre
concerns. Are all psychopaths evil? Is there a possibility that psychopathy
is the product of genes? Or perhaps, their faulty brain circuits should be
blamed for their evil acts? Can Baek Hee Sung, a psychopath, be
considered to be a truly evil character? Is it tempting to say that Baek
Hee Sung has no saving grace at all?
Can Baek Hee Sung’s marriage with his wife, Cha Ji Won, be salvaged? Let's look at the situation in this way.
‘Cha Ji Won! With her, man is an animal’.
The man, Baek Hee Sung, is a sexy beast in her
presence.
‘Cha Ji Won, without her man, is an animal.’
The homicide detective, estranged from her man, is dangerous.
Lee Joon Gi looks adorable with
babies and young children
If the Baeks clash, who would be a casualty of
their ruined marriage? The Baeks have a very young daughter whom they love.
Will their daughter be the sacrificial lamb? Will this reason be compelling
enough for Baek Hee Sung to keep his distance from them
forever?
Lee Joon Gi, a mixed martial arts expert, who has a string of
drama and movie action credentials to his name, is expected to showcase his
martial arts skills, particularly, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the drama. He has
been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for more than two (2) years.
The Flower of Evil reunites Lee Joon
Gi and Moon Chae Won who are the leads for the police procedural-crime-action
drama, Criminal Minds. Moon Chae Won is excited to work with Lee
Joon Gi again and she promises to give the performance of her life in the
drama. What does Lee think of Moon Chae Won?
In a special KKTV interview in 2017, Lee declared
that Moon Chae Won, an earnest actor, ‘made him stay alert’.
He made a comparison between himself and Moon. While Lee considered himself
to be ‘passionate and cheerful’, he declared that she ‘is
very detailed and sharp’.
TVN has to be thanked for bringing Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae
Won into our living rooms again. But, viewers will have to wait until June to
watch The Flower of Evil. Reserve your Wednesdays and
Thursdays for the psychological-crime-action thriller (?) which
is written by Yoo Jung Hee, directed by Kim Cheol Gyu, and produced
by Studio Dragon and MonsterUnion.

Fans have been waiting impatiently for Lee Joon Gi’s new drama
and by the time The Flower of Evil is aired, it would have already
been two years since the broadcast of his last drama. Now that they know that he would be playing Baek
Hee Sung, a beast of a man, they are squealing with sheer delight. Would
the villain turn out to be ‘a very sexy beast’? In the imaginary
world of Lee Joon Gi’s fans, Baek Hee Sung, the psychopath
will be a mind-blowing sexy beast in the TVN drama. Evil has to take the
shape of a sexy beast at some point in the drama. The intoxicating thought
will energise flagging spirits.
A
fan’s artwork
After the initial shock of the news that Lee Joon Gi would
portray a psychopath, fans have come round to accepting his drama choice. The
first impression is that Baek Hee Sung is the frightening image of a
rampaging and vicious serial killer. However, some imaginative fans
recovered in record time to ensconce themselves in the driver’s seat, giving
explicit instructions pertaining to camera work and the best camera angles
to The Flower of Evil director and cinematographer. They
have demanded scandalous close-ups of Lee Joon Gi’s anatomy, including his
arms, his legs, his back, his eyes, his lips and even have standing
instructions for them to pan in on Lee’s rippling muscles, zooming in on his
sexy biceps, as Baek Hee Sung busies himself with his metal
work. Can the audience wrench their gaze away from such lust-inducing
masculine visuals? Their adrenaline would go into overdrive. Whew!
It is indeed difficult to peel the idea of Lee Joon Gi playing
a sexy psychopath from one’s mind. The name, Baek Hee Sung, already
sounds sexy and delicious. Pronounced in a certain way, it sounds
like ‘Bite Him Soon’. Scrumptious. Baek Hee Sung is
definitely a sexy beast. Could it be that his wife, Cha Ji Won, who is
likely to be the one to ‘Bite Him Soon’, is a vampire? Is she the flower of
evil? Joking aside, fans would love to watch their lovey-dovey moments.
In an interview conducted on 26 July 2017 with the three main
actors of Criminal Minds, Lee was asked about his sexiest body
part. He jokingly answered that it was his lips. So, there’s no excuse for The Flower of Evil director and cinematographer not to
zero in on Lee Joon Gi’s lips.
Other than his sexy body parts, the audience would probably
want him to showcase his other charms or talents. The multihyphenate
superstar is not just an amazing movie and drama actor but also an awesome
martial artist, singer, dancer, and ‘supermodel’. Fans wonder whether he
would be singing his own songs and executing some slick and nifty dance moves in the upcoming drama.
The excruciating wait for Lee Joon Gi’s drama is far from over.
The TVN drama, written by Yoo Jung Hee, directed by Kim Cheol Gyu, and
produced by Studio Dragon and MonsterUnion, will
only be broadcast on Wednesdays and Thursdays in June 2020.
