Lawless Lawyer: The First Teaser

THE FIRST TEASER

YER
LAWLESS LAWYER

THE FIRST TEASER

The first teaser of Lawless Lawyer is highly thrilling and engaging. It invites the audience to tell their versions of the story. Lawless Lawyer is directed by Kim Jin Min and written by Yoon Hyun Ho.

THE VOICE

The teaser opens with a short welcome to Giseong City by Bong Sang Pil. It does not matter to the woefully ignorant non-Koreans that they do not understand what he’s saying. What matters is listening to the incredibly sexy, exciting and thrilling voice. No one can mistake Lee Joon Gi’s distinctive deep and masculine voice for another person’s.

THE LOOK

But, it is very clear from the onset that the audience’s strongest impression is not just Bong Sang Pil’s distinctive voice but also his frosty look.

The dark and dangerous look in Bong Sang Pil’s eyes is enough to send shivers down one’s spine. Cold. Calm. Impersonal. Dispassionate. All of these coupled with a hint of steeliness and ferocity that cows and claws at the audience.

Bong Sang Pil is the audience’s primary interest. His struggle against injustice and corruption as symbolised by the female judge and the chairman of a business conglomerate, would be clearly played out in the drama.

GISEONG

The fictional city, Giseong, is painted with a cloud of smog hanging over it. It’s not fog. It’s smog – smoke and fog. Air pollutant. It is symbolic of the heavy pall of crime and corruption that spreads its tentacles across the city. Judicial corruption.

When the curtain of smog parts, a beautiful city is clearly seen.

THE TALE
UNFOLDS

THE EMOTIONAL LAWYER

Hae Jae Yi is in court; she is squabbling with a court judge over judicial matters. Probably, the female lawyer does not like the insolent words and the sneering tone of the arrogant judge, most likely, a corrupt one.

Aggressive and assertive. Her temper is ungovernable. She is no weakling; she violently clobbers him. Attagirl! If she could, she would have beaten the daylights out of him.

Is the audience being invited to draw an opinion about female power against the powerful and corrupt male judges who hold sway over the judicial courts?

THE UNHOLY ALLIANCE

One has an idyllic picture that female judges are unlikely to be corrupt. They are almost invisible in a world of corruption.

Interestingly, Cha Moon Sook, a lethal female judge (Lee Hye Young), who hides behind a façade, features significantly in the story. Just and fair. Her real character tells a different story.

The corrupt judge is the oppressor in the judicial world; she is ‘Queen of all she surveys’. Power tends to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Justice is crippled by the interference of a gangster in her judicial decisions. A judge and a gangster. An unholy alliance. Their wayward plans hit a snag with the appearance of ‘The Lawless Lawyer’, Bong Sang Pil.

It would be unsurprising if Cha Moon Sook’s finances are shored up by the generous contributions of Ahn Oh Joo (Choi Min Soo), the thuggish chairman of a large chaebol or business conglomerate, who hobnobs with her.

You might want to cluck that the female judge is literally ‘in bed with a gangster’. You’re kidding if you think this tale is going to be salacious. In this conspiracy, nobody is likely to be selling sexual favours.

The Scales of Justice. Would there be poetic justice for the lawyers and the gangsters etc in Giseong?

THRILLING ACTION

A chase scene. Human versus machine. Ha Jae Yi, the driver of a luxurious car, seems to be pursuing Bong Sang Pil. A real man. Masculine. Strong. Athletic. Fit. Trim. Such men, who are in top physical form, are sexy. An aura of magical power and sexiness surrounds Bong Sang Pil.

Turf wars. A fight among gangsters has erupted on what seems like the rooftop of a high building.

Clothed in his lawyer’s suit, Bong Sang Pil seems to leap gracefully like a ballerino across the bonnet of a white car. The leap resembles the mid-air splits. Amazing. Bong Sang Pil’s sex appeal shoots through the roof.

Lee Joon Gi is the master of the splits – the powerful and electrifying leap through the air. Lee has trained to do the splits since young. At his recent Joongi’s Day event, he showcased the splits on the floor.

CORRUPTION

Bankrolls - paper money in the car. It is not clear whether they are bribe money or stolen money.

THE GISEONG UNDERWORLD

Organised crime. The underworld in Giseong is filled with businessman oops, gangsters in suits. The suits are supposed to give them a look of legitimacy and respectability. Professionals.

A victim is tied up with ropes and hung from the roof like a cow to be slaughtered, probably because he had failed to successfully perform the mission which he had been tasked with by the gangster head. The code of the gangsters deems it unpardonable. No clemency is shown.

The gang is stunned by the noisy appearance of a car which smashes right through the wooden barrier of the doorway. The car spins crazily around.

A cavalcade of black cars races into the empty warehouse, the watering hole of the underworld characters.

THE LAWYER-HERO

It is expected that Bong Sang Pil, the sexy and charismatic lawyer-hero would try to restore justice by fair means or foul, in the judicial world. He has mobilised street thugs to fight against injustice. With his thuggish minions right behind him, Bong maintains a calm and casual but determined demeanour. One of his lackeys is gripping a steel rod, an ugly weapon of gangster wars.

In the drama, Lawless Lawyer, Bong Sang Pil would surely, in word and action, make no secret of his hatred for criminals and those judicial authorities who shield them. It is a privileged calling: he has taken up the challenge of cleaning up the judicial system.

LET THE DROOLING BEGIN

What is the prevailing opinion among the excited audience after watching the first teaser?

The teaser has whipped up an uncontrollable fan and media frenzy. Bong Sang Pil has an imposing and powerful on-screen presence. Irresistible. He swaggers and struts with absolute confidence across the screen. There is a natural air of command about him.

Lee Joon Gi, who plays Bong Sang Pil, the titular ‘Lawless Lawyer’, is the most gorgeous and sexiest action and drama superstar - the most prized superstar of Asia.

Let the Drooling begin.

LAWLESS LAWYER
PERFECT PAIRING

Seo Ye Ji is beautiful and charming. And, Lee Joon Gi is gorgeous, charismatic and dangerously sexy. Perfect pairing.

Fans expect a happy ending for Bong Sang Pil and Ha Jae Yi.

Now, something sinister and petrifying is happening in the tale.

HA JAE YI, HAVE NO FEAR,

BONG SANG PIL IS NEAR,

ROMANCE IS BREWING AND LOVE WOULD SOON BE CLEAR,

HAPPILY EVER AFTER BEGINS HERE.
