THE
MAIN CAST
|
|
Lee Joon Gi as Baek Heesung (39 years old) |
Baek Heesung is the adopted son of Baek Manwoo and Gong Mija.
He
is a hardworking metalcraft artist with a murky past which
is shrouded in mystery. He assumes a
false identity to hide his dark past but he couldn’t hide his real name, Do
Hyunsoo (36 years old), from Kim Moojin, an old schoolmate.
Do Hyunsoo is suspected of being an accomplice in some serial
killings. He and Do Haesoo, his older sister by a year had agreed to erase
each other from their lives. Do
Minseok, their biological father who had killed their mother, was also responsible
for the ‘Yeonju Serial Killings’. Repressing their horrendous memories is an
act of self-defence.
Married
to Cha Jiwon for 14 years,
they have a 6-year old daughter, Baek Eunha. Marriage and love have brought
stability and peace to his previously tumultuous life.
None
suspects that the perfect husband and father is a serial killer or psychopath kept under
wraps.
Although
hounded and hunted for the murders, Heesung lives a normal life, sequestered
from his past. He has admitted to telling a lie but it is not a monstrous lie.
Telling the truth is a thousand times worse than telling a lie.
Although
there is a blurring of fact and fiction, Heesung is determined to keep his
secrets to himself until the very end. Why is it so important that he has to
carry his secret to his grave? Is it because it involves the reputation and
future of someone whom he loves and respects? Even under the threat of death, he
would certainly not be a stool pigeon. Can any murder charge be proved without
compelling eyewitness testimony?
Little
does Heesung know that Pandora’s Box would soon be flung open.
|
Moon Chae Won as Cha Jiwon (37 years old) |
Cha Jiwon is a homicide detective and the wife of Baek Heesung.
Loving
him with all her heart and soul, she has no inkling of her husband’s past. He
is, in fact, the love of her life. Would she still love her husband if he’s proven to be a serial killer or psychopath? When it comes to the affairs of the
heart, it’s almost impossible to tell.
Career
minded and achievement-oriented, the passionate detective, during the course
of her homicide investigations, coincidentally uncovers her husband’s hidden past.
She
really and truly does not know who he is anymore. ‘Who really are you?’
If her
worst fears were realised, would she be the one to handcuff her husband?
When the
game’s up, will he confront the truth and will she still have the stomach for
it?
What
will happen to their child and family? Is having a happy future together
beyond the realms of possibility?
|
Jang Hee Jin as Do Haesoo (37 years old) |
Do Haesoo, the older sister of Do Hyunsoo (Baek Heesung), is a Special Effects Makeup Artist.
It is
shocking that the delicate and gentle woman is the biological daughter of Do
Minseok, a serial killer. Besides being his wife’s murderer, Do Minseok, was also
known as the vicious ‘Yeonju Serial Killer’. It must have traumatised the two siblings.
Do
Minseok’s suicide did nothing to ameliorate her pain and anguish.
What mystified her though was that Hyunsoo and their father were inseparable.
Eighteen
(18) years ago, before Hyun Soo disappeared, he had advised her, ‘Live an ordinary life.’
But, her
life was a media circus. Reporters swarmed around her like crocodiles waiting
to chomp her up. She feigns ignorance about the murders or the whereabouts of
her brother.
In the end, she too,
disappeared. With the past being erased from her life, she had to rebuilt her
life from ground zero.
Her
coldness and unapproachability make it difficult for friendships to bloom.
Her cold eyes are piercing enough to make mincemeat of any man who wants to
take their friendship to the next level.
Seo
Hyunwoo, her first
love, returns to reopen the wounds of the past.
|
Seo Hyunwoo as Kim Moojin (36 years old) |
An unsavoury weekly journalist of Hanjugan Weekly, Kim Moojin gradually loses his journalistic ethics in proportion to his increasing obsession for sensational scoops.
While
making himself a nuisance at Cha Ji Won’s office and pestering her for
sensational homicide news, he learns of Cha’s metalcraft artist husband.
It
triggers a memory. Alarm bells start ringing. A certain metalcraft artist in
his hometown was responsible for a number of serial killings some 18 years before.
And, Do Haesoo, the killer’s daughter, was his first love. She is still fresh
in his memory and he wonders about her whereabouts.
For the
reporter who has no basic decency, shocking news, especially about
psychopaths, hold considerable appeal to him.
Is it a matter of personal taste or is it purely psychological? ‘A psychopath who tries to kill his obese
child?’ Ah, investigating such
intriguing tales is his forte.
He has
not the foggiest idea about the enormity of his attempt to ferret out the serial killer.

THE
SUPPORTING CAST
|
|
Son Jong-hak plays Baek Manwoo (67 years old) |
Baek Manwoo is the adoptive father of Baek Heesung and the CEO of a university hospital.
As a Surgical Specialist and Emergency Specialist, he is very
much revered and admired.
A man of exemplary character, he is a loving, warm and kind human being and a competent and responsible professional.
He
might be envied by the public but there is a darker side to his character of which
they are oblivious.
15
years before, he suffered his life’s greatest crisis – an accident, a secret
which he had kept buried.
What might that secret be? And, why, in the first place, did he adopt Do Hyunsoo?
|
Nam Ki Ae as Gong Mija (64 years old) |
Gong Mija, the overbearing wife of Baek Manwoo, is the adoptive mother of Baek Heesung.
A
pharmacist by profession, she is the proud owner of a pharmacy.
When
something gets on the Gong Mija’s
nerves, she can barely contain her impatience and goes completely hysterical.
Unsurprisingly,
Heesung puts his abnormally possessive mother at arm’s length. He is averse to the idea of forging a
closer bond with his emotionally needy parent.
Bitterly
disappointed by his rejection, she asks, ‘Do
you think your life is your own?’
Her
caustic tongue exerts an enormous stress on him.
|
Cho Kyung-sook plays Young-ok (61 years old) |
Young-ok is the mother of Cha Ji Won. Ever since Jiwon was young, Young-ok has been the owner of her own convenience store.
Having
the advantage of living near Jiwon, she cares takes care of Eun Ha, her
granddaughter.
Her
strong maternal instinct ensures that Heesung, her son-in-law, whom she
treats like her son, is well-loved.
|
Yang Hye Jin as Gang Pilyoung (51 years old) |
Gang Pilyoung is the Team Manager of Hanjugan Weekly and the supervisor of Kim Moojin, for whom she has a soft spot.
Appreciative
of Moojin’s keen eye for exclusive
news, she is quick to offer him advice and tips.
The
far-sighted news lady fans his obsession for scooping shocking news. His
articles, though sensational, are often fine pieces of investigative
journalism.
|
X as Do Minseok, 'The Serial Killer' (Deceased) |
Do Minseok, the father of Do Hyunsoo and Do Haesoo, was implicated in the ‘Yeonju Serial Killings’.
The
Homicide Department kept tally of the victims but it was believed that there
were more than the seven (7) bodies that were discovered.
The news
sent shock waves throughout the country.
Do
Minseok committed suicide so it was impossible to unearth further details.
Rumours
of the existence of an accomplice swept like wildfire throughout the town. Do
Hyunsoo, who has a striking resemblance to his father, was identified as the
prime suspect but he had vanished without a trace.
When the village chief was murdered, Do Hyunsoo was just eighteen.

THE
HOMICIDE DETECTIVES
HOMICIDE
INVESTIGATION TEAM 3
|
|
Lim Chul Hyung as Yong Sangpil (51 years old) |
Yong Sangpil, the Chief of the Homicide Investigation Section, is a stickler for routine when handling 'normal' homicide cases.
In
extraordinary cases, he would provide unstinting support to Homicide
Investigation Team 3.
Possessing
a very short fuse, he is often seen barking at detectives who prove to be a
major headache or are embroiled in trouble.
|
Choi Dae Hoon as Lee Woochul (43 years old) |
Lee Woochul is the Team Leader of Homicide Investigation Team 3, of which Cha Ji Won is a member.
He is a
thoughtful leader who prioritises the safety of his team members. His pure
rationality and cool patience could easily be misrepresented as coldness.
His squabbles
with Choi Jaesup, an insubordinate member of the team, have become the norm
in the office. Choi’s endless acts of defiance are enough to try the patience
of a saint.
|
Choi Young Joon as Choi Jaesup (43 years old) |
Choi Jaesup is an unconventional detective who speaks his mind and is, at times, insubordinate to his superiors.
He is an
unorthodox detective who does not do anything by the book but by instinct in
his homicide investigations.
The veteran detective, the immediate supervisor of Cha Jiwon, is
incomparable when it comes to resorting to ‘connections’ to get a job done.
|
Kim Soo-oh plays Lim Hojoon (29 years old) |
Lim Hojoon, the youngest member of the homicide investigation team, is Cha Ji Won’s partner.
Brought
under her wing, Hojoon improves as a

have quit because of his daunting workload.

and makes his presence felt in her life whilst her mother, a career-minded
homicide detective, prioritises work and duty over home.
Like all
cute and loving children, she is well-loved by her grandparents and she
practically has Baek Manwoo and
Gong Mija eating out of her hands.
