IN
FLOWER OF EVIL
TEASER 4
There is nothing more dangerous than falling
in love with a psychopath. When Flower of Evil Teaser 4 was
released, viewers must have felt a surge of excitement again when they saw
Lee Joon Gi, the source of their inspiration, at the end of the
teaser.
None could fault them if they stared at Baek
Hee Sung’s exposed sexy right shoulder. Hearts must have pumped
uncontrollably. Baek, undeniably, emits an ice-cold aura. It is
as if blizzards have swept through the room. The iciness adds to his
mystery and magnetic charm.
Are his freezing cold eyes staring at
the mirror?
Baek Hee Sung is like a work of art, an ivory bust of
a beautiful man that has come to life.
In Teaser 1, Baek Hee Sung had
held the hands of his wife as she held his. He even caressed the wedding ring
that he had given her.
Teaser 1
In Teaser 4, both of Cha Ji Won's palms protectively
enclose his right palm. It is a symbol of togetherness and a commitment on
her part to love him. Their lives are truly entwined.
Teaser 4
A major upheaval occurred when he became the
object of a murder suspicion. When the finger of suspicion pointed to Baek for
some serial killings, it upsets their harmonious lives. Doubts have
crept into her mind about him. Being a homicide detective, Cha Ji Won is
able to put odd bits of information together to form a picture. Things
seem to take a turn for the worse when Cha’s homicide
investigations implicate him. There is nothing more dangerous than falling in
love with a serial killer. She torn between her beloved husband and her duty as a defender of the law.
Cha Ji Won reminisces about the good old days
when they were gloriously happy. Teaser 4 compares the past with the present.
There is a photograph on the cabinet top which is a portrait of their perfect
family. The happiness of the family of three in the past is compared with the
present moment when she dejectedly watches a home movie of her happy husband
with their daughter on the TV screen.
Her TV screen seems to have ‘crack’d
from side to side’. His past, which has returned, haunts them. Their
relationship is broken. Is their love doomed too?
Broken glass often symbolises disappointment
and distrust. Some believe that glass is eternal. ‘You can break it into
tiny pieces and turn it into a magnificent object, but it will always stay
what it is – glass.’ It can be ‘revived’. Glass symbolises transformation,
change, eternity and rebirth.
‘How long did you think you could go on
fooling me?’ Cha Ji Won asked nobody in particular. Baek had woven a web
of elaborate lies.
‘Oh, what a tangled web we weave,
when first we practice to deceive!’

She kept on fingering her wedding
ring. The wedding ring is an emblem of love and devotion. It
is a symbol of eternity. She and Baek Hee Sung have
promised to love and cherish one another for the rest of their days.
Baek Hee Sung’s past has turned their world upside
down. Cha Ji Won has to decide on the best course of action to take. She has
been married to him for 14 years but she is also an incorruptible homicide
detective. She would not want to be charged with perverting the course of
justice. Though he is her husband, she is determined to catch him with her
own hands and put an end to his lies.
She must have brooded over the question of
love, marriage and life, and the repercussions of her decision on her life
and family.
There is the imagery of a flight of stairs.
The stairs lead from the ground floor (Am: 1st floor)
to the first floor (Am: 2nd floor).
This person who is looking down from the
landing on the first floor must have felt very nervous.
The walk from the top of the stairs to the
ground floor is a journey metaphor for falling from Heaven into Hell. He is
standing on what is considered to be ‘Heaven’. If he descends the
stairs, he would be sliding down into ‘Hell’. An open
door on the ground floor, with a ray of bright light shining
through, is closing. Does it mean there is no more hope for him?
The teaser pans in on Baek Hee Sung. Strangely,
it does not focus on his eyes but his lips. His eyes would have been eerie.
His secrets are safe with him and his lips are sealed.
Baek Hee Sung’s beautiful world has drastically turned
dark. He has to decide on his next move as his wife has pried into his dark
secrets. Knowing her dedication to criminal justice, he has to escape from
being trapped.
The hunt for Baek Hee Sung will
be difficult. It will involve a police car chase, a chase on foot and so
forth. Overcome by volatile emotions, Cha Ji Won drives recklessly.
It seems Cha Ji Won has also discovered
something even more intriguing. Her eyes widen in shock.
Baek Hee Sung is wounded in his attempt to escape
from his wife. You can call it ‘The Chase’ or ‘The Hunt’. Will
there be ‘A Manhunt’ as well?
The situation has reached the point of no
return. He knows what that means. He would lose everything: His wife. His
daughter. His beautiful, harmonious and peaceful family life and home. And,
his career.
‘I will not stop until the
very end. If I lose what I have now, my life would be hell.’
Stop what?
