LEE JOON GI
REFLECTS ON BEING
A ROLE MODEL
FOR
YOUNGER ACTORS
IN
THE STAR
MAGAZINE
INTERVIEW
Lee Joon Gi’s
trip to Macau, China for a photoshoot between 7 and 11 January was one of the
highlights of his career in the first half of 2020. The coterie of photoshoot
professionals who accompanied Lee successfully harvested a collection of amazing
pictorials that are featured in the July issue of The Star Magazine. One
important focus of The Star Magazine interview was Lee has been singled out
as the role model of younger actors.
Multihyphenate
Lee Joon Gi, considered to be most talented, charismatic and well-loved of
all superstars, was given a very warm welcome by his many passionate fans in
Macau, some of whom came from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and
elsewhere. During the trip, his ardent fans who followed him everywhere he
went sent him many gifts, flowers and letters which he took back to Seoul.
The megastar was
also given a royal welcome home by his local fans and the media.
It was
auspicious that when he arrived at the Macau International Airport, he was
photographed against the billboard, ‘Take Your Brand To New Heights in
ASIA’.
Indeed, Lee
Joon Gi has taken himself to greater heights in Asia, having recently been
appointed as the Brand Ambassador for Palace 3D. Lee is the perfect Brand
Ambassador because he is a legend in the Asian showbusiness world. Palace
3D a fantasy mobile game which revolves around a legendary king, his beautiful
queen, thrilling adventures, an opulent palace and the fabulous royalty.
Lee Joon Gi,
who lionised the pictorial space in the magazine, was reminded that younger
actors have singled him out as their role model.
It is
unsurprising news to his fans. Lee Joon Gi is a multihyphenate. You have hit
bullseye if you have arrived at this conclusion – Lee Joon Gi is the master
of all trades: Awesome Actor. Spectacular Martial Artist. Marvellous
Singer. Remarkable Dancer. Extraordinary SuperModel. Many actors might want to emulate him but Lee’s
success story is an unusual Asian success story which is not easy to duplicate.
Besides having
his name associated with a mobile game, Lee, The King of Historical Dramas
has won the prestigious Seoul International Drama Best Actor Awards
twice for Arang and the Magistrate (2013) and The Joseon Gunman
(2015) after his discharge from the military. In 2018, he won another prestigious award Best
Male Asian Star Award in Singapore for his eponymous role in Lawless
Lawyer. It is difficult to name the countless awards that he has won.
Of all the
actors who have been discharged from the military, one could say Lee Joon Gi’s
stint in the military was the most distinguished and most awesome because of
what Lee had achieved and what he represents. His military enlistment in 2010
and military discharge in 2012 have the biggest fan support
including that of international fans, an unusual feat for any actor.
The awesome
actor starred in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), the Asian
historical drama of all time. His masterful and searing portrayal of Prince Wang
So and Emperor Gwangjong has made the 10th century
historical figure the most unforgettable drama character in the Hallyu
World. It is because of Lee that the world has come to know about Goryeon
history. Lee, who was launched into international fame and popularity with The
King and The Clown in 2005, has since moved further up the showbusiness stratosphere.
When Lee Joon
Gi starred alongside Milla Jovowich in Resident Evil: The Last Chapter,
he gained an even more iconic status in the entertainment world. Milla
Jovowich, the beautiful multihyphenate and Paul Anderson, her brilliant film
writer and director husband, like angels, had sang praises of Lee’s amazing performance
in every media interview.
Certain lives
are worthy of emulation and examining Lee’s life meticulously instead of discussing
it in sketchy detail will make one’s life immeasurably richer.
In The Star
interview, the 39-year-old megastar wants to emphasize to younger actors that
‘energy’ is important. To his fans, Lee’s indefatigable and boundless energy,
his greatest strength, emanates effortlessly from him. It brings a lot of
smiles and laughter to everyone at every drama filming set. He thinks that
many young actors stress over personal responsibilities unnecessarily and
implies that team spirit and communication among the actors are important. He
stresses that importance of positive energy which can have a more significant
effect on others than these young actors can possibly imagine.
Baek Hee Sung in Flower of Evil
Flower of Evil, Lee’s upcoming psychological thriller-melodrama, is discussed
at length. Lee portrays Baek Hee Sung, a man with a dark past who
pulls wool over the eyes of his homicide detective wife for 14 years. It is
impossible to guess how the drama will be presented to the viewers but it is predicted
that there would be no dry eyes at the end of the drama.
