LEE JOON GI’S
BEHIND THE
SCENES
MOMENTS
ON THE SET OF
FLOWER OF
EVIL
POSTER
PHOTO SHOOT
PHOTO SHOOT
In a vlive session on 2 July, Namoo Actors offered a sneak peek
into some interesting ‘behind the scenes’ footage from the Flower of
Evil poster photo shoot. It’s undeniable
that the promotional posters of Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won are stunning. The one in blue is iconic
while the red one is sizzling hot. It was reported that both actors personally conferred with the production crew on the concepts for
the posters. The only complaint is that the vlive session was a mite too short.
Lee was asked by the Namoo photographer about the blood stains on
his shirt. Declaring that he could not divulge any spoilers, he promised the
viewers that if they were patient enough to wait until the end of the video, they
would be duly rewarded with some information on the victim, the blood-type
and other details. He fooled the viewers with his deliberate deception.
Viewers may have failed to notice that Lee had already slipped effortlessly
into his Baek Hee Sung character as
rappers rapped about a ‘bare-faced liar’.
The viewers believed every word Baek said
but discovered in the end that he had brazenly disregarded the truth. The
rapper was correct. Baek was a
bare-faced liar. Hmm.. What an ingenious way of ratcheting up
interest in the photo shoot!
Lee Joon Gi revealed that the photo shoot was held in Baek Hee Sung’s metalcraft studio. By the time of the photo shoot, they had already filmed the drama for 2 to 3 months.
But, what is most intriguing about the rapping is not just the
mention of a ‘bare-faced liar’ but
also the emphasis on two other ideas that cannot be ignored: ‘pussy killer’ and ‘different voices in my head’.
The use of the word ‘pussy’
is crude and the meaning of the words, ‘pussy killer’ is not really clear. Does the rapper mean that Baek Hee Sung is a suspected ‘sex
killer’ or perhaps, he is a ‘Casanova’?
When we think of sex killers, we think of ‘Lustmord’,
the German term for sexual murder. Sex murderers are perverse and violent
killers. ‘Lustmord’ is made more
horrifying by the paintings of Otto Dix and George Gorsz.
And if Baek Hee Sung hears
‘different voices in my head’, he
is certainly insane. His mind is likely to be fractured.
If the rapper is actually describing Baek Hee Sung, then, the drama has taken on a new twist. The new layer of dramatic tension that has been injected into
the drama will surely fan the curiosity of the public.
It is quite a puzzle why Lee Joon Gi’s songs have not been
included in his dramas. Only ‘For A
While’ has appeared in the Chinese movie, Never Said Goodbye. Some romantic songs that could be
included in the list of songs for Flower
of Evil are ‘For Us’ (2018), ‘Now’ (2016) and ‘Fiery Eyes’ (2009).
Compliments must be heaped on the photographer, poster designers and the other production staff who are responsible for the awesome Flower of Evil posters.
The red poster is strikingly beautiful. It’s impossible not to notice the amazing red-hot colours and the clarity of the emotions and body language of the Baeks. One’s mind reels with an almost aesthetic delight at the sensuous beauty of the poster.
But, perhaps the blue poster depicting Baek Hee Sung and Cha Ji Won being handcuffed together should be singled out for special praise. It is not just an aesthetically beautiful image but also one whose beautiful imagery spells out the drama’s theme of ‘everlasting’ love. Handcuffed together for life. The great contrast of white and blue in the poster grabs one’s attention, and like the red poster, one can sense the great tension between Baek Hee Sung, the suspected serial killer, and Cha Ji Won, his homicide detective wife. Viewers are curious about their love. The way the hands are cuffed gives viewers a glimpse of Cha Ji Won’s love for Baek Hee Sung and vice versa. The idea of the Baek couple seemingly being bound to each other till death is hopelessly romantic, particularly for those who are incurable romantics. Perhaps, she is his ‘miracle’ and his salvation. The poster evokes deep feelings of empathy and sympathy for the psychopath and his homicide detective wife.
Flower of Evil has remained an enduring
source of fascination for the public ever since it was first announced at the
beginning of the year.
The premiere date has been changed.
The 16-episode drama is written by Yoo Jung Hee, directed
by Kim Cheol Gyu, and produced by Monster Union and Studio Dragon.
