Veteran Actor Stokes Up Interest In The Flower of Evil

VETERAN ACTOR
STOKES UP
INTEREST
IN
THE FLOWER OF EVIL

Veteran actor Shin Hyun Jong is revealed to be latest addition to the Dream Team of The Flower of Evil. He will join the talented team who consists of a slew of remarkable individuals: Lee Joon Gi, the lead actor; Moon Chae Won, his leading lady; Jang Hee Jin, Seo Hyung Woo, Jeong Taek Hyeon, director Kim Cheol Kyu and screenwriter Yoo Jung Hee.

Shin Hyun Jong’s recent dramas include Tell Me What You Saw (OCN / 2020), When The Weather Is Fine (JTBC / 2020), The Fiery Priest (SBS / 2019) and Live (TvN / 2018). In When The Weather Is Fine, he plays the role of a village chief.

The veteran actor’s presence in the drama piques everyone’s curiosity. None knows exactly what role Shin will be playing but he is set to portray Noh Man Sik. Noh cannot be Baek Hee Sung’s father as he doesn’t have the same family name. Perhaps, he is Baek’s stepfather. Who knows?

Lee Joon Gi plays Baek Hee Sung, a man who is living a double life. Working under the cloak of a metal craftsman, Baek leaves behind the life of a psychopath and takes on a new identity and a new life. The dangerous Baek Hee Sung, who has a loose grip on reality, is a loose cannon in the community.

Lee Joon Gi would be playing dual roles: Baek Hee Sung, the perfect man – a good husband and father, and Baek Hee Sung, the evil psychopath who will destroy the perfect marriage. But, the marriage is a sham. How did he attract Cha Jin Won, his wife, in the first place? Can we ignore the question? No. Probably, the lady-killer has the cunning of a seasoned liar and his sweet talk and flirtatious smiles could have brought the two together. Their married life is idyllic as Baek does not betray the evil side of his character.

Cha Ji Won, played by Moon Chae Won, is obsessed with her exciting homicide investigative work and has probably cracked many difficult cases. It is strange that the insightful and observant lady is slow to catch on; she fails to detect his psychopathic traits. Sleeping with The Enemy. Cha Ji Won’s life will be on the brink of chaos upon learning that she has been, literally and figuratively, in bed with the enemy. But, what is the real face of Baek Hee Sung? Assuming the worst, he would be a grim psychopath who would not hesitate to kill. (Must we demonise Baek even before we know the story?) Though an enormous rock has been placed on her shoulders, the determined and efficient Cha Ji Won would not shirk her duty but would bring her villainous husband to justice.

Their young daughter, in their cosy home, does not know that there is an enemy within. Before conducting some detective work on their own, excited fans have been speculating about her age for ages. They have discovered, with unprecedented speed, that the girl in question is a preschooler. The sleuths have triumphantly revealed that The Flower of Evil production team have been seen shooting a scene in a kindergarten.

(l) Bong Sang Pil (Lawless Lawyer 2018), Wang So (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo 2016) and Park Yung Kang (Gunman in Joseon 2014)

Lee Joon Gi has always played heroes in his dramas: Kim Eun Oh in Arang and The Magistrate (2012); Park Yung Kang in Gunman in Joseon (2014); Kim Sung Yeol in The Scholar Who Walks The Night (2015); Wang So in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016); Kim Hyun Joon, the profiler in Criminal Minds (2017); Bong Sang Pil in Lawless Lawyer (2018) and so forth. The only time Lee Joon Gi played a ‘baddie’ in dramas was in Two Weeks – as a small-time gangster who is framed for murder. His fans would bristle with annoyance at the slightest suggestion that Jang Tae Sang is less than a heroic character. It is anyone’s guess if Baek Hee Sung is really an ‘evil’ character. Fans had a sudden sinking feeling in the pit of their stomachs when they first learnt that their favourite actor would be playing an evil villain but still, they are confident that the amazing actor would give the greatest performance of his career.
