The stakes have never been higher. The game has never been deadlier. And the face of this global thriller belongs to one man: Lee Joon Gi.

This October, the Hallyu icon returns to the screen in Kidnap Game, a pan-Asian psychological thriller that is already being called his most ambitious project yet. But this isn’t just another drama; it’s a high-octane, seven-city survival race where only one person can save the one they love.

Premiering on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at 9 PM on Fuji TV (Japan) and 10 PM KST on Channel A (South Korea), Kidnap Game is set to grip audiences across the globe. (VIU’s schedule is yet to be announced, but fans are already on high alert.)

A NIGHTMARE THAT SPANS 7 CITIES

Imagine this: seven major Asian cities (6 countries) - Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, and Naha - are hit by simultaneous, meticulously coordinated kidnappings. The victims are loved ones. The ransom? Not money. It’s participation in a savage game.

The rules are chilling: “How far are you willing to go to save your loved one? Only one person can be saved.”

Each player receives a unique, morally crushing instruction. To win, they must complete their task before the others - no matter the cost. It’s a psychological battlefield where survival isn't guaranteed, and humanity is the first casualty.

Kentaro Sakaguchi takes on the role of Detective Nīide Toshiro - a driven, relentless investigator who will stop at nothing to unravel the truth behind the kidnappings.

LEE JOON GI

THE STAR AT THE CENTER

The creative team Fuji TV production made a bold and deliberate choice to cast beyond borders. They brought in Lee Joon Gi as the gravitational centre of this pan-Asian vision. His casting isn't just about star appeal; it's a statement. With his unparalleled global following, his phenomenal acting and action performances, and two decades of Hallyu dominance, Lee elevates Kidnap Game from a regional thriller into a must-watch event for global audiences.

At the heart of this chaos in Kidnap Game is Lee Joon Gi, who plays Han Ki Joo, a brilliant surgeon whose life is shattered when his visually impaired daughter is kidnapped.

A man who took an oath to save lives now faces an unimaginable choice: trample over others to protect his own flesh and blood. It’s a role that demands everything from the actor and Lee Joon Gi delivers.

This is not just another character for the global superstar - it’s a tour de force as can be seen in the trailer.

It has been reported in interviews, that Lee commands the screen in Korean, English, and Japanese, proving once again why he remains the most versatile and beloved Hallyu actor of his generation.

WHY LEE JOON GI

IS

THE ANCHOR

OF

THIS GLOBAL PHENOMENON

Let’s be honest, Kidnap Game isn’t just a drama. It’s a testament to Lee Joon Gi’s enduring star power.

He’s been a household name since the 2005 smash hit The King and The Clown.

He filled arenas across Asia (Japan, China, Taiwan and South-east Asia) with his concert tours starting in 2009.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016) made him a global sensation.

Flower of Evil cemented Lee Joon Gi's reputation as a master of intense, layered performances.

The hit K-drama, Flower of Evil, starring Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won was adapted into a stage play in Japan in two major cities, Tokyo and Osaka, in March 2026. The decision was driven by the drama's massive popularity in Japan, where it remained in Netflix's series Top 10 for nine consecutive weeks. The producer Yuuka Higuchi explained that story's unique blend of mystery, suspense, and deep human emotion was perfectly suited for the stage. Koichi Goseki played Do Hyun Soo (the lead role originally played by Lee Joon Gi) and Mizuki Umino played Cha Ji Won (originally played by Moon Chae Won). Reviews were very positive.

And Again My Life (2022) dominated platforms like Viu, iQIYI, and Viki simultaneously.

Lee Joon Gi made his Hollywood debut as a villain in the film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

His performance was celebrated for its martial arts prowess. Director Paul W.S. Anderson, impressed by his action skills, said the fight scene between Lee and Milla Jovovich was ‘electrifying’ and one of the film's high points. Co-star Milla Jovovich was equally impressed, noting that working with him was ‘like being introduced to a whole new level of stunt acting’. She also described him as an ‘incredible villain' and a ‘scene stealer’.

Lee Joon Gi, as the film's only Asian star, played a notable role in driving its massive international success. The movie earned significantly more overseas ($212 million) than in the U.S. ($26 million). He is recognized as ‘immensely popular’ in China, a key market where the film performed exceptionally well, and his presence was a factor in its success there. The Opening Weekend in China was $94 million. This was the biggest opening weekend for an imported film in China at the time. The final total gross for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in China was approximately $160 million. This total meant the film's final gross in China alone was almost six times more than its entire domestic run in North America ($26.5 million)

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the highest-grossing movie in the entire Resident Evil film franchise. In the US domestic market, The Final Chapter actually had the lowest opening weekend and the lowest total domestic gross of all the main films. However, its staggering international earnings (more than $287 million) pushed it to the top of the franchise's worldwide rankings.

Lee is also very popular in Japan. The Box Office Mojo records the total gross from Japan as $36,482,592.

Lee Joon Gi's Hollywood debut was widely reported as a 'stunning entry' that showcased his talents to a global audience.

In Japan, where his fandom is practically legendary, he celebrated his 44th birthday and 20th concert anniversary on 10 April 2026 with a sold-out event in Yokohama.

His Japanese fans are so passionate that they’re organizing support events for Kidnap Game across six cities: Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, and Fukuoka.
