 Lee
Joon Gi’s upcoming television series, Kidnap Game, has released
promotional stills, images, and videos. Kidnap Game revolves around a
series of simultaneous kidnappings in seven Asian cities - Tokyo, Seoul,
Taipei, Singapore, Manila, Bangkok, and Naha. Someone intimately related to
each victim receives an email: ‘You have been entered into the Kidnap Game.
How far will you go to save your loved one? Only one person can be saved.’
Lee Joon Gi plays world-renowned surgeon Han Ki Joo. It is truly remarkable
that Dr. Han, as portrayed by Lee Joon Gi, looks so young, with youthful skin
and bright energy. Lee demonstrates a genuine transformation in his screen
presentation, proving once again his extraordinary commitment to his craft.
In Kidnap
Game, Lee Joon Gi’s face looks rounder. This is likely a deliberate choice:
he appears to have put on a little weight for his surgeon role, and fans have
noted that he drank a lot of beer. Even a relatively small change in weight can
make the cheeks and area around the jaw look fuller, obscuring the natural
cheekbone and jaw definition. Rather than a flaw, this is evidence of Lee Joon
Gi’s willingness to adjust his appearance for the sake of authenticity.
Lee
Joon Gi’s face is being presented with considerably less angular definition and
more facial softness in his surgeon role. Han Ki Joo looks pale, immaculate,
youthful, calm, and refined; his cheekbones are less prominent, and his
complexion is exceptionally smooth. This is not accidental - it is the result

His

lifestyle, and a profession requiring a polished appearance. There is minimal
sun damage - little tanning, no obvious sun spots or weathering lines,
especially compared with an outdoor worker.
A
doctor who spends most of his time indoors may have a relatively pale, even
complexion and little evidence of prolonged sun exposure. That contrast makes
Dr. Han Ki Joo visually memorable.
 Aesthetically,
Lee Joon Gi has prepared thoroughly for his surgeon role, and his facial
appearance is extremely effective in convincing the audience that he is really
a surgeon. His looks are deliberately different from the sunburnt looks of
Inaishingi-Aramun in The Sword of Aramun, highlighting his versatility
as an actor.
Han
Ki Joo’s calm, composed face is perhaps the strongest ‘doctor’ characteristic.
A surgeon who routinely makes life-or-death decisions would ideally have an
expression that doesn’t easily reveal panic. His expression is hard to read as
he bends over to read some information on a computer. His clear, steady eyes
are attentive and observant rather than aggressive; the eyes convey
concentration.
The
surgeon’s neat hair is controlled, practical, and carefully maintained, like
any surgeon. He is clean-shaven or has no facial hair - particularly
appropriate for someone who frequently works in an operating room. He has a
lean, healthy physique, a ‘disciplined professional’ rather than muscular or
athletic like Aramun in The Sword of Aramun.
Dr.
Han Ki Joo has elegant hands - slender, steady hands which are especially
evocative for a neurosurgeon. His controlled movements are telling. Posture and
movement matter almost as much as facial appearance.

Dr.
Han Ki Joo is a surgeon who moves with precision and restraint. For Han Ki Joo,
the combination of appearance and mannerism is particularly striking.
Lee
Joon Gi immediately creates the impression of someone accustomed to sterile
environments, precision, discipline, and remaining composed under extreme
pressure. This is not simply a matter of good looks - it is the result of an
actor who has carefully studied and prepared for the physical and psychological
demands of the role.
In The
Sword of Aramun, Lee played the adult Inaishingi-Aramun and Saya, with
Inaishingi-Aramun specifically portrayed as the leader of the Ago tribe and
Saya having risen to a military position. That naturally required a much more
physically imposing, hardened, and aggressive screen presence. The doctor
appearance is almost the opposite - and Lee Joon Gi executes that contrast with
impressive skill.
  
Lee
Joon Gi’s ‘smaller, cooler’ appearance is a testament to his range. Although he
is extremely athletic and an established action actor, his visual silhouette
isn’t naturally that of a large, bulky action hero. His build is relatively
lean and slender. His face can therefore appear quite refined, when he isn’t
deliberately presenting himself as a fighter. His martial-arts ability is real,
but it doesn’t necessarily have to be visible in his appearance in Kidnap Game.

The world-class surgeon, Dr. Han Ki Joo, was cool, calm, and rational before the kidnapping forced him into increasingly extreme choices. Not coldness in the sense of being emotionless, but an almost unnerving composure. He is
non-intimidating and looks like the man who is least likely to lose control.
Why can 5 feet 10 inches Lee Joon Gi suddenly look ‘smaller’? This is one of the interesting things about Lee Joon Gi. His actual body doesn’t have to change very much for him to look substantially smaller and less aggressive. Lee’s underlying physique is lean rather than bulky. When he isn’t using his body
language to advertise physical strength, he can look surprisingly delicate and
unintimidating. This level of control is not accidental; it is the mark of an
actor who has prepared meticulously for his role.
