Flower of Evil Celebrates Wonderful Reunions

FLOWER OF EVIL

CELEBRATES

WONDERFUL REUNIONS

The Flower of Evil cast, which is spearheaded by Lee Joon Gi, is a unique blend of experience, skills, top and fresh talents. Lee is reunited with many of his friends and colleagues from reel life as well as from real life. Meeting such friends and co-stars again must have made Lee nostalgic and life on the film set must be real fun. The dynamic dream team, which is helmed by Director Kim Cheol Gyu, is expected to bring strength, vigour, passion, excitement and pure magic to the drama.

2015
THE SCHOLAR WHO WALKS THE NIGHT

LEE JOON GI, JANG HEE JIN & SON JONG HAK

Lee Joon Gi’s two co-stars from the 2015 historical fantasy drama, The Scholar Who Walks The Night, who have joined him in Flower of Evil are Jang Hee Jin and Son Jong Hak.

Jang Hee Jin portrays Soo Hyang, the Head of the Hwayang-gak, who is recruited to be the assistant of Kim Sung Yeol, a beautiful 150-year old vampire played by Lee Joon Gi. Saved by Kim Sung Yeol, the loyal and faithful Soo Hyang falls irrevocably in love with him but her love is unreciprocated.

The other co-star is Son Jong Hak who plays the incredibly corrupt, rapacious and cold-blooded Prime Minister Choi Chul Joong. The court official has no qualms about working for Gwi, an evil vampire who has killed his daughter.

In Flower of Evil, Lee Joon Gi portrays Baek Hee Sung. Jang Hee Jin portrays his older sister, Do Hae Soo. Baek’s original family name is Do.

Son Jong Hak plays Baek Man Woo, Baek Hee Sung’s father, not his biological father but probably an adoptive one.

2016
MOON LOVERS: SCARLET HEART RYEO

LEE JOON GI & CHOI BYUNG MO

In the 2016 drama, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Choi Byung Mo portrays Park Young Kyu, the Foreign Minister and the father-in-law of Wang Yo (Third Prince). They conspire to kill King Taejo. Lee Joon Gi plays Wang So, the Fourth Prince and Emperor Gwangjong.

They were not directly involved in any conflict in the previous drama but one wonders about the excitement their new collaboration would bring to Flower of Evil.

2017
CRIMINAL MINDS: KOREA

LEE JOON GI, MOON CHAE WON & YOON BYUNG HEE

Lee Joon Gi’s two co-stars from Criminal Minds: Korea, Moon Chae Won and Yoon Byung Hee, will surely enliven his new drama.

Lee Joon Gi stars as Kim Hyun Jun, an NCI Agent Profiler or Behavioural Analyst, in the 2017 drama. Moon Chae Won, who plays Ha Sun Woo, his NCI colleague, is set to play his loving and adoring wife in Flower of EvilLee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won will be fun and exciting to watch in the upcoming drama. Imagine their sizzling romantic chemistry!

Yoon Byung Hee plays Kang Won Hyun, a bird-brained murder suspect, who interferes in a tense situation between Kim Hyun Jun and a mentally unbalanced scientist in Episode 3 of Criminal Minds: Korea. Lee Joon Gi’s spectacular performance in that episode was most unforgettable.

KIM HYUN JUN'S HIGH-OCTANE KICK

One exciting moment which catches the audience by surprise is when Kim Hyun Jun fells and flattens Kang Won Hyun with a high-octane tornado kick. Imagine Kim Hyun Jun’s mocking look when the anxious Ha Sun Woo rushes to the scene. It is regretful that Kim Hyun Jun and Ha Sun Woo do not have a romantic ending in the drama.

Yoon’s role in Flower of Evil is unknown but he would certainly add interest and fun to the drama.

2018
LAWLESS LAWYER

LEE JOON GI & CHOI DAE HOON

Lee Joon Gi plays Bong Sang Pil, the titular lawyer in the 2018 Lawless Lawyer while Choi Dae Hoon plays Seok Gwan Dong, a petty criminal who is later recruited by a big-time criminal to be a subservient and loyal assistant. Lee Joon Gi and Choi Dae Hoon’s previous collaboration is hysterically funny except for their tragic scene in Episode 16.

Choi plays a homicide detective this time round.

2010 – 2012
MILITARY SERVICE

LEE JOON GI & KIM JI HOON

2012

While all those discussed previously are reel friends and colleagues from previous dramas, there is however, a friend from real life who has joined Lee Joon Gi in Flower of Evil.

Lee Joon Gi and Kim Ji Hoon, whom he met at the army, reunited at the wedding of their mutual friend, Mithra Jin in 2015. All three enlisted in the army in 2010 and were discharged in 2012.

Kim Ji Hoon’s role in the drama is still unknown.

Flower of Evil is about a psychopath, Baek Hee Sung, who is married to Cha Ji Won, a homicide detective for 14 years. The couple must have married young and they produced a very cute and adorable pre-school daughter, Baek Eun Ha.

Baek Hee Sung is the titular ‘Flower of Evil’. It seems that on the surface, Baek is like a beautiful, innocent FLOWER. Seething underneath is an ugly, EVIL monster.

Baek is like Janus, 'the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages and endings'. Janus has two faces – one looking to the PAST and another looking to the FUTURE. Baek’s past is full of evil. He has assumed a new identity. But does he desire to reform himself for his future?

His PAST: The surname of his biological father is Do.
His FUTURE: The family name of his adoptive family is Baek.

Baek Hee Sung’s past catches up with him fifteen years later.

If Baek is 35 years old, he must have wedded Cha when he was 21. What is his allure that she is so attracted to him? Perhaps all of these. Great looks. Great artistic talents. An aura of mystery. Romantic. An unflappable and cool temperament.  Equable. The naked vulnerability in his eyes.

If Cha doesn’t smell a rat while sharing a bed with him for 14 long years, she must have been very naïve or completely besotted with him. Spellbound. He must have cast a spell on her. Baek Hee Sung must have worn a charming facade so successfully that she is blinded by his fake love and elaborate deception. Perhaps, it is just a masquerade that has assumed gargantuan proportions. Masquerading under a false name and assumed demeanour. Did he really pretend to love her and their cute daughter for years? Is romantic love just a dangerous illusion? One can be sure that the determined and passionate Cha Ji Won would be able to ferret out the psychopath.

Baek’s adoptive father, Baek Man Woo, is the CEO of a university hospital, an instituition which combines the services of a hospital with the education of medical students and medical research. Has the hospital to do with the research of psychopathy and medical education of the mentally ill?

Baek Man Woo is willing to face up to his responsibility as a father and his love for his son is unquestionable.

Flower of Evil, the most highly anticipated drama of 2020, will premiere on 22 July 2020 at 10:50 p.m. The final broadcast will be on 10 September 2020. The 16-episode Wednesday-Thursday drama is written by Yoo Jung Hee, directed by Kim Cheol Gyu, and produced by Monster Union and Studio Dragon.
