Do you feel different from others in any way?

https://www.facebook.com/reel/2029901697492865

Probably that I can quickly forget complaints and dissatisfaction? Whether it’s sadness or something that makes me angry, I try to forget it as soon as possible because holding onto these things doesn’t do any good.

Only when I’m happy can I end the day in a good mood and feel I’ve gained something.

“I managed to get through such a difficult situation.” Getting angry or complaining makes things worse. So, I try hard to forget negative emotions and simply ‘let it all go’.

If it’s okay not to care (about others), and you want to to ask for a date, how would you spend a date with your lover?

Wow – there are many things I want to do!

I want to go to Myeongdong, and also to Handae because for me, it’s the first time going to these places with a lover.

I might even make a week-long dating plan, like ‘eating street food’ or ‘going to an amusement park’.

Do you have someone you like right now?

That would be you, the one looking at this photo book! (laughs)

If your destined person appears before your very eyes, how would you start pursuing her?

If such a person really appears, I would take action immediately!

But I might also lack the courage.

After ending a relationship, are you the type who doesn’t look back at the past? Or do you often think about the past?

I don’t look back at the past. At first, I might feel sorry, but once I’ve sorted out my emotions, I won’t think about the past anymore.

When was your first love?

Lee Joon Gi in Fly, Daddy, Fly

It was a long time ago. It was in high school, so innocent back then. Holding hands was a big deal at that time. The other person was from another high school.

Looking back now, it was a naïve romance.

You are good at computers and enjoy playing games. Do you play mobile games?

I only play games on my computer (laughs).

Who is your favourite screenwriter?

I like the works of Noh Hee-Kyung.

I VALUE SCREENWRITERS A LOT AND AM CURIOUS ABOUT THEIR IDEAS IN THEIR WORKS.

Actors who have worked on Noh Hee-Kyung’s works often say that her works are unique, so I really hope to collaborate with her. If there is a chance to work together, I believe I could gain a different perspective.

Each of Noh Hee Kyung’s works conveys a very profound message, and every character’s story is uniquely charming, which I really like.

What is your favourite Korean proverb?

Although it’s not a proverb, a motto I really like is:

“TURNING THE IMPOSSIBLE INTO THE POSSIBLE”

This phrase reminds people not to be lazy and not to settle for the status quo.

I don’t want to disappoint or make anyone unhappy.

What is something that you absolutely cannot give up?

It would probably be my beloved acting career. I’ve never considered any other profession. What would happen if I weren’t an actor? Just thinking about it sends chills down my spine.

Do you prefer hot or cold places?

I prefer hot places. This is 100% certain.

The cold is just too unbearable, and when it’s too cold, I don’t feel like doing anything.

My bias or favourite is Jun Ki.

Who is Jun Ki’s bias or favourite?

It’s you.

Which orchestral instrument would you like to play? Have you learned any instruments?

My cousin, who is a conductor, had advised Lee Young-ae for her performance in ‘Maestra: Strings of Truth’.

(Lee Young-ae, who prepared for the role of a violinist and conductor, plays the role of a competent conductor.)

Influenced by my cousin, I went to a concert and was particularly impressed by the violin. The violinists in the orchestra seem to express their soul.

https://www.instagram.com/jg_k_drama/p/DHQdgorxvH1/?hl=en&img_index=5

Although I’ve never played the violin, if there’s a next life, I hope to become a violinist.

What do you do to maintain a happy mood every day?

Running! Running can make me feel happy all day long.

I don’t have a specific time for running. If I want to observe people on the weekends, I go to the Han River at around 3 or 4 pm. On the weekdays, I run on the treadmill.

If I am not in a good condition, I run about 10 kilometres. If I am in a good condition, I can run up to 23 kilometres.

Other than family and fans, what do you cherish the most?

It would probably be my pet, Kabi. She’s getting older, and her health isn’t great. I hope to give her as much love as possible for the rest of her life.

When do you feel your pet’s most loving moment?

When I come home, it happily runs to greet me, we are always together and understand each other very well (laughs).

What does Kabi like to play with recently?

Kabi, like me, enjoys observing people and doesn’t like being around other dogs (laughs). She loves staring at people intently and enjoys being pampered and getting attention.

Do you take naps together?

At home, just like I have a fixed spot, Kabi also has her own special place. She like to sit by the window, looking outside or observing people. So recently, we’ve been sleeping in our respective spots.

What is the secret to learning a foreign language?

I’m not good at learning foreign languages so I’m not qualified to answer this (laughs).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RESAgD5bRE4

First, I set a big goal. Whether it’s for acting or fan meetings, if there’s a situation where I need to perform, I naturally study hard. But once the work is over, if I don’t use it for a while, I forget.

I’m planning to learn a foreign language again.  Having a conversation is a good start; it’s fun to talk to foreigners in their own language.

Have you been playing the guitar lately? Any songs you want to play?

Playing the guitar is too difficult. I wanted to learn it properly and perform on the stage, but I gave up because I lacked the confidence.

Songs, like Jason Mraz’s 'I’m Yours', are difficult to sing, let alone play and sing at the same time. But if fans think it’s okay, I’d like to seriously learn and perform it on stage someday.

At what age did you realize that you were handsome?

Ha. Ha. Probably recently. Fans say I’ve lost weight lately, but I think I like how I look now more than when I was in my thirties.

What stretches do you do before running?

Once I start running, my body naturally stretches out.

I don’t need to do stretches like I would for other intense exercises. I just start walking and gradually speed up. By the time I’ve listened to about three songs, my body is already stretched out.

What’s a good sport for beginners?

Running! I think most people can do it.

Which part of your body muscles are you most confident about?

Thighs and waist are the foundation for action scenes. To showcase skills in flashy action scenes, strong thigh muscles are essential. And when running, calf muscles are also important.

Share 3 tips for maintaining your physique.

‘You can’t maintain your physique without putting in effort unconsciously,’ so you need to have that mindset, followed by diet and exercise.

The most basic is diet. Right now, to maintain my figure, I’m controlling my carbohydrate intake, but don’t worry, this won’t last forever.

Have you been recognized while running?

No. at first, I ran with a mask on, but later I realized that it wasn’t necessary.

However, sometimes, even with a mask, I still gets recognized (laughs).

What do you think about while running?

I think about scripts I need to memorize or things related to acting.

Recently, I’ve been brainstorming ideas for fan meetings.

Running has become more fun because of this.

What watch do you wear while running?

I wear a smartwatch. It’s not just for telling time but it can also measure heart rate and give all sorts of data. It’s really useful for tracking many details.

What’s your favourite stretch?

I do any stretches which improve flexibility, especially hip stretches.

When I practise Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I also focus a lot on stretching.

What songs do you listen to most while running?

I listen to music that makes me feel good while running, but lately, I’ve been listening to performance tracks. For example, ii’ve been listening to BTS’s Jungkook’s songs on repeat many times.

If I’m filming, I listen to the OSTs of the project.

And before filming, I listen to music that matches the mood of the work.

Is there a place or time where you can completely relax and not think about work or fans?

Lately, I’ve been meeting people often.

And I also like to casually walk into shops that seem to have a nice atmosphere or just stroll around casually.

How do you overcome sadness or difficulties?

Just cry it out (laughs). Then forget about it right away.

Staying immersed in that kind of emotion isn’t good for you.

It’s important to let go of bad feelings quickly.

What makes you happiest as a globally supported celebrity?

Yes, I really feel supported by the whole world (laughs). Fans from different countries come to fan meetings, bring gifts, and write letters to me.

Whenever this happens, I think, ‘They really love Korean culture,’ and I feel deeply grateful. It’s incredible and heartwarming to have people all over the world who support and love me.

KUALA LUMPUR

MALAYSIA

TAIPEI
TAIWAN

Among the gifts from fans, which one has left the deepest impression on you?

EVERY GIFT IS PRECIOUS.

I’m very grateful for the gifts from fans, but the donation certificates leave a deep impression on me.

I’m proud to have a positive influence on people. And I feel deeply grateful.

You often share selfies on social media. What kind of photos have you saved on your phone?

I have some photos taken while exercising that I like to share, but I don’t have the courage to post them (laughs).

Is there a place you want to visit or something you want to eat when you return to Busan?

It’s been 20 years since I left my hometown. When I recently went back, I discovered that the familiar places have changed.

I remember a blood sausage soup restaurant where I worked for a long time when I was still in Busan.

What places in Korea would you recommend to Japanese fans for travel?

I want to travel domestically (laughs). Although I haven’t been to many places myself and don’t know much about tourist spots, I thought of Bukchon Hanok Village. There are many foreign tourists there.

How do you relieve fatigue and stress?

By running or having a short drink.

What’s something great that happened recently?

The fan meeting held in Seoul was amazing. It was the first one after the pandemic, and it made me really happy. For a whole week after the meeting, I was enveloped in that joy.

Have you tried Japanese sweet sake?

Yes, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to drink it.

Do you prefer salt or tare (sauce) for Japanese yakitori?

Salt. I like eating it with salt.

You mentioned using tofu instead of rice for Korean rice balls before. Any other recommended recipes?

I cook curry with meat and various vegetables. But it’s more like curry soup than curry rice, but it’s really delicious.

https://www.angsarap.net/2024/02/16/malaysian-style-curry-vegetables-with-tofu-puffs/

I also recommend tofu pizza, where dried tofu is baked and used as a pizza crust, topped with your favourite ingredients.

Tofu sandwiches are also great. I use dried tofu instead of bread and fill it with ham and vegetables.

https://www.ricardocuisine.com/en/recipes/8360-grilled-tofu-sandwiches

Cold noodles made with soy milk are also highly recommended.

Please share your favourite Korean and Japanese dishes.

For Korean Cuisine, I like Hanjeongsik (Korean Full Course Meal) and light meals like tteobokki (spicy rice cakes).

Tteobokki

For Japanese cuisine, I’d say ramen, tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet) and sushi.

tonkatsu

What gift would you like to give to your parents?

I’d like to take them on a trip. Isn’t travelling together as a family the happiest thing?

Before the pandemic, we used to travel to places like Hawaii every year.

Recently, we haven’t been able to travel together, which is really unfortunate. Starting this year, I want to travel with my family again.

What do you find most adorable about your younger sister?

Probably how she distrusts everyone in the world except her older brother (laughs).

She thinks she needs to protect her brother, and that’s totally cute.

How do you make up with your sister after a fight? Who apologizes first?

I’m the one who apologizes first, and I’m also the one who gets angry first (laughs).

If we were to give each other the cold shoulder, since we live together, wouldn’t that be troublesome (laughs)?

So even if we fight, we have to make up quickly. Even though I’m only a year older, I’m still the older one, so I have to apologize first (laughs).

What traits do you share with your parents?

Both of them are quite stubborn (laughs).

I think I learned kindness from my father and passion for work from my mother.

What’s something you do every day without fail?

It’s probably running.

If I don’t go for a run, I watch movies at home.

What is your source of energy?

If I have to choose one, it’s the drama filming set!

A fan watched the ‘behind-the-scenes’ footage of a filming set and said I seemed to really enjoy the filming process and was the best team member.

After hearing that, I went back and watched the clip. When watching it myself, I could feel the joy I had while working on the set (laughs). So, I never miss any behind-the-scenes footage.

What do you spend the most time on in a day?

When I’m working, I’m mostly reading scripts.

When I’m not working, I’m usually watching my pet, Kabi, watching movies, or exercising.

Sometimes, I go out to meet friends.

What’s your bedtime routine?

I watch or listen to YouTube. Lately, I’ve found historical explanations really interesting.

What is the most important memory that you still cannot forget?

The days when ‘The King and The Clown’ became a social phenomenon. It was trully a miracle, like a major event that felt like a reward.

The movie ran for six months and attracted 10.51 million viewers.

I still vividly remember the stage greeting held at the Daehan Theatre when the movie audience exceeded 10 million.

If it doesn’t affect your work, what hairstyle would you like to try?

The current short hair is fine.

I tried long hair before, but it didn’t seem to get much praise (laughs).

Do you drive often?

I drive quite a bit. And I really enjoy driving. If it’s someone I know, I’ll even give them a ride because I genuinely like driving.

Do you often visit art galleries?

I’m not knowledgeable about art. I don’t visit art galleries often. I’m not good at appreciating art.

If you could be reborn, would you want to be an actor like now, a talented idol or something else?

Being a talented idol seems nice (laughs). The stage has its unique charm.

If I could be reborn, I’d like to perform on the stage more often.

Are you the type to say you think or take action immediately?

I don’t act immediately. Since my response could lead to certain outcomes, I usually wait a few days before responding.

When you shower, where do you start?

Wang So

The Fourth Prince

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

2016

I start with my head, then my body, and finally my face.

What colour would you use to describe yourself?

I used to think I was red, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve also been drawn to black.

I’m not sure which colour it is now, but I’ve always liked red.

It reminds me of fire and the sun, so I really like red.

What song do you usually sing at karaoke?

I really like Kim Kwang Seok’s songs. His songs are classics, so I often sing them.

What was your lowest body fat percentage?

When I was practising Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, my body fat percentage was only 7%. That was during the filming of ‘Lawless Lawyer’.

While gaining muscle was good, my face became too thin, which was a bit of a problem.

We are about the same age, but why do you look so young? Especially your skin which shows no sign of aging. Do you have any skincare secrets?

I think it’s genetic.

The most important thing is not let yourself feel stressed.

Also, always keep a childlike heart? (laughs).

When something bothers you, don’t overthink it, it’s important to let it go quickly.

And use skincare products that suit your skin type.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4zvNL1MabmQ

Your skin is so fair and clean. It’s really enviable. Do you carefully select skincare products?

Yes, as an actor, skincare is essential. I’ve been using the same product for 20 years.

(Hello, what’s the name of the product?)

I’m afraid of trouble, and often wish for a gadget that could automatically brush my teeth. What kind of gadget would you want?

That sounds great. I would like to have an automatic toothbrushing gadget. A gadget that could brush my teeth for me would be wonderful.

You are always being photographed. If you could use a drone to take pictures anywhere in the world, where in the world, would you like to take photos?

It would be great if someone could take pictures of me while I’m travelling.

I’m not good at taking selfies (bitter smile).

Sometimes, I think, ‘I wish my smartphone was a drone.’

When starting a new job, I always feel scared. How do you maintain a positive mindset when creating good works?

It’s possible to always stay positive. Everyone feels the same. When I start a new project, I also feel scared and stressed.

But I tell myself that this is a test before something good happens. Although it’s tough at first, you must try hard to overcome it.

After 40, I always feel lonely. I hope everything doesn’t stop. And I’m always looking for things that I must do myself, not just busy work. As an irreplaceable actor, what are your life plans?

After 40, I do feel lonely and there are more things to do. But I think it’s best to accept it. Go with the flow. Don’t ask why, just accept that this is life.

And perhaps, a new chapter will begin.

After turning 40, what do you want to do?

I still feel young, so I want to work on more projects. Especially, after the age of forty, I have to decide on the direction of my career as an actor.

I want to leave behind good works that showcase the depth of an actor.

Not only as an actor, but I also hope to build a fulfilling personal life.

What is different at 40 compared to what you had imagined it to be?

I feel younger than what I had imagined (laugh). Compared to my 30s, life is much calmer, which is surprising. But, I can’t let my guard down because of that, can I?

What do you hope to be like in 10 years from now?

I hope to remain active 10 years from now.

Like other versatile seniors, I want to continuously expand my acting skills.

I am currently living while dealing with my own worries.

Share 5 things you want to accomplish before age 60.

First. I want to leave behind 3 representative action works.

Second, I want to perform for fans in various countries.

Third, because I enjoy cultural exchange, I want to participate in international film projects.

Fourth, I want to reach the position that fans expect of me.

Do you want to live to 100?

Yes, I want to live a long life. If the world were to end, I want to witness it with my own eyes.

Finally, tell us what your dream as an actor is?

Like Teacher Lee Soon-Jae, I want to be an actor who remains active in the forefront for a long time.

Whether as a person or as an actor, I hope to continue giving love to everyone.

I truly love you all from the bottom of my heart!

Although I haven’t completely come to terms with everything, as one person living in this world, I want to live while looking forward to the future.

I often find myself worrying alone, but even if I don’t find answers, I think hoping for the future is an answer in itself.

What’s important is not to blame others for what happens.

This question has made me reflect a lot. Perhaps you asked me this because you find me reliable? I will continue to do my best.
