One tries not to betray one’s pleasure when looking at Lee Joon Gi on the cover of the March 2021 issue of  The Star magazine. Like many of his stunning magazine covers, the wonderful image is forever etched in one’s mind. Lee’s soulful look as he leans against the adorable chestnut horse has an astounding effect on women. The tender, endearing and heartwarming image softens hearts and women lose all sense of reason; they just want to hug the image.

The magazine records not just one but two beautiful moments connecting the extraordinary human being and his new equine friends. One can imagine the beat of hearts as they swell and pound against the chest.

Lee, accompanied by his own staff and the staff of The Star magazine, had travelled to Jeju for the photoshoot. It was a 3-day working-holiday in the autumn of 2020. Since he had not stepped on Jeju island for 10 years, he was startled to see the vast changes and new developments.

In one image, the stylish Lee, in his immaculate white jacket, white designer's t-shirt and navy-blue jeans, poses in the lobby of a luxurious and famous resort whose floor is paved with gleaming white marble. Two distinctive and unique gold-black works-of-art by Jeju artists adorn the spacious lobby.

It is evident that the trip was a source of immense enjoyment to him. Lee, who loves nature, probably fell in love with Jeju all over again; his return to nature was a healing trip for his mind and body. As he showcases his equestrian skills, one watches in wonderment at the superstar. Some consider horses to be the most therapeutic of all animals.

The self-appointed Tourism Ambassador happily enumerated a list of wonderful places for his global fans to visit; he really wants them to discover Jeju, a place steeped in history.

The view of the hills, mountains, peaks, forests, beaches and grasses must have been exhilarating for Lee. He visited Cheongsu Gotjawal Forest, Yongnuni Oreum Volcanic Cone, Suwolbong Peak, Huree Park and some beaches. Autumn flowers were in full bloom and he stopped to smell the roses. The trip must have given him precious memories as he has vowed to return.

The autumn scene is awashed with the eulalia or silver grass which sways in rhythm with the wind. His monochrome beige coat, whose colour almost resembles the swaying lush grass, is a stark contrast to his purple-orange striped shirt. Lee makes a stunning picture with his eyes closed and his left hand held high to salute the soft caress of the gentle breeze.

Another breathtaking picture shows Lee clothed in black and white in Huree Natural Park, a place to appreciate nature. He stands in the pathway flanked by two white picket fences which separate him from a sea of pink muhly grass.

A series of pictures shows him basking in the morning sun. He is clothed in blue, white and black, his favourite colours.

An air of mystery enters into his future plans. It’s fascinating that he plans to make trips by himself, to see more of the world. Interesting experiences await on the horizon. Life has to encompass more than showbusiness; it also involves filling one’s soul with more beauty, love, joy, adventure, et cetera, and overseas trips might just do the trick.

With the quantum of changes in showbusiness, it is not easy for stars to survive the brutal reality of the business. But, the dynamic frontrunner has sustained a successful career for nearly twenty years despite facing prejudices and various difficulties. Unlike many entitled younger stars, Lee has maintained a positive and focussed attitude. Honing his diverse talents has also paid dividends in a rapidly changing world.

Lee's recent work in the 2020 masterpiece, Flower of Evil, has received enthusiastic reviews and critical acclaim around the world. The audience have been transported to Do Hyun Soo’s world and they have been moved by Lee’s sterling performance. The awesome team, comprising the director, the scriptwriter and the cast, has created such a unique suspense-melodrama that the global media and audience are still talking and writing about it.

Being confined to the home may not be a bad thing. It’s interesting to note that that the pandemic has provided Lee with the valuable time to polish up his English. He not only watches old and new movies to improve himself but also cooks and does workouts at home. Once the pandemic situation improves, Lee hopes to meet up with his beloved global fans and broaden his life experiences.
