LEE JOON GI ASIA'S KING OF DANCE
SWEEPS THE TAIWANESE
OFF THEIR FEET
IN HIS
‘DELIGHT’ ASIA TOUR
The ultimate multi-hyphenate Lee Joon Gi, the
King of Dance, has caused a splash in Taiwan yet again. The actor-martial artist-martial
arts choreographer-popstar (singer-cum-dancer)-model-fashion icon-producer,
one of the most prolific, hardworking and passionate artistes in Asia, has swept
everyone, including his male fans, off their feet in his ‘Delight’ Asian
Tour in Taipei on 27 January 2019.
Before he left for Taiwan the
day before, the South Korean media and fans were on hand at the Incheon
International Airport to record the occasion. Lee Joon Gi had continued his
Asia Delight Tour in Taiwan after having a break of a few weeks.
As expected, the gorgeous and sexy 36-year superstar made a very stylish appearance with his impressive airport
fashion. The fashion icon, dressed in black and white from head to toe,
sported sensual shoulder-length copper locks. His stunning black jacket had 2
diagonal white and grey bands on each side of his chest. Supercharged with
extra energy and possessing that extra glow, Lee looked hot in all his shots.
JUST GO LOVE
At one point, Lee Joon Gi
stylishly lifted his mobile phone, placing it next to his ear. It gave one an
inkling that a significant message was going to be conveyed. Not much later, he
cutely pointed to his phone. It had the image of his ‘Just Go Love’ logo. Having
a heart of gold for the neglected members of society, Lee has contributed to
their cause through ‘Represent’. He has obviously not forgotten to bring to
the attention of the public his latest charity venture, the proceeds of which
would go to those disadvantaged people. The fashionable clothing and fashion
accessories on sale at the Represent website are wonderful fashion
investments. Lee has always been serious and passionate in whatever he does; he is giving the public a gentle reminder to support the cause.
Upon arrival at the Taoyuan
International Airport in Taipei, Lee Joon Gi was accorded a royal welcome by
his passionate Taiwanese fans. Hundreds of excited fans lined up patiently
behind airport barriers as he waved and blew kisses at them but in the end,
they could not contain their excitement, and pandemonium broke out. Although
the chaos almost spiralled out of control, Lee remained calm and unruffled.
His own personal bodyguards as well as the Taiwanese bodyguards assigned to
him were on hand to ameliorate the situation. Some enthusiastic fans were also
waiting for him at the Regent Hotel.
Lee Joon Gi’s ‘Delight’ Asia
Tour concerts have, so far, showcased a hotter and more energetic style than
the previous tours.
Lee’s costumes, including the
red and black attire, were slightly different from the ones he wore in his previous
‘Delight’ concerts.
The spectacular opening of the
concert at the Taipei International Convention Centre wowed the audience. The
stage looked like a disco inferno as it exploded in red hues. It seemed that ‘fiery
tornadoes’ had swept across the stage. ‘Tongues of flames’ and columns of
smoke leapt up as Lee, accompanied by his dance crew, sang and gyrated in
rhythm with the pulsating music.
During certain segments of the
concert, there were riots of colours as flashes of psychedelic lights lit up
the concert hall. As usual, Lee Joon Gi was in his element as he sang,
danced, jumped, pranced and spun round the stage. His onstage dance moves were
super-powerful. His feet seemed to be flying in a frenzy or a rage. Fans love
his wild and fancy footwork. Being a better singer than many so-called popstars, Lee showed an impressive vocal range. One
can understand Lee Joon Gi’s energy as he has always stated that performing
on stage for fans always gives him the adrenaline rush.
The three dynamic songs from his
‘Delight’ album are staples in all his ‘Delight’ Asia Tour shows. ‘For Us’, ‘Accepted’ and ‘Can’t Be Slow’, his latest funky
songs, have a strong rhythm and Lee danced to their rapid disco beat. The
titles of the songs seem to have inspirational and influential messages. ‘For Us’ seems to have a family appeal
since Lee considers his fans to be part of his family. ‘Accepted’ seems to mean ‘one has been welcomed to be part of his
group’. ‘Can’t Be Slow’ serves as an encouragement ‘to hurry or speed up’.
The songs quicken the imagination of everyone who listens to them.
Being quite the charismatic showman,
Lee sometimes stopped to joke with the audience, teasing them. The segment of
the show where he put on the ‘Jumping Rabbit Ear’ and ‘Baby Shark’ costume
hats was hilarious. Shrieks and screams of delight and laughter could be
heard during Lee’s comic performance.
THE
AUDIENCE: DANCING AND SINGING WITH LEE JOON GI
Everyone was expected to party
with him. At some point during the concert, Lee Joon Gi, together his crew,
was leading the audience in some song-cum-dance session; they stood up
clapping, cheering, singing and dancing together with him.
Lee Joon Gi as Emperor Gwangjong (Wang
So) in MLSHR
When he sang ‘For You’, the
theme song of Moon Lovers-Scarlet Heart: Ryeo, the crowd went wild. SSB’s
historical drama has melted hearts everywhere. The Taiwanese would have
remembered that due to the enormous popularity and high ratings of the drama
in the island nation, Taiwan’s KKTV had presented the much beloved heart-throb with ‘The Best Actor
Award 2016’. It is quite impossible to forget Lee Joon Gi’s Wang So and SSB’s
MLSHR.
Lee Joon Gi: crowned ‘Best Male Asian
Star’ for his role as Bong Sang Pil in Lawless Lawyer
Having been crowned the ‘Best
Male Asian Star’ by Starhub in Singapore for his role as Bong Sang Pil in his
drama Lawless Lawyer, Lee Joon Gi is now ‘The King of Asian Dramas’. A search
on the internet on Lee Joon Gi turns up mentions of other titles or
sobriquets bestowed on the superstar: ‘The Prince of Asia’ by Showbiz Korea,
(Living) ‘Legendary Hero’ by Elle Men Hong Kong and ‘King of Sagueks’
(Historical Dramas) by the South Korean media. And, so on and so forth.
Just when you think that you
know him, Lee Joon Gi gives more of himself. Other than his repertoire of
songs that he had prepared for his ‘Delight’ tour, he had also included 3
Chinese songs popularised by other members of Asia’s showbusiness royalty. It
never occurred to anyone that he would sing so many Chinese songs. One can
sense the intensification of the delight of his thousands of enthusiastic
Taiwanese fans when he gave a rendition of Jay Chou’s ‘Love Confession’,
Teresa Teng’s ‘The Moon Represents My Heart’ and Mayday’s ‘Contentment’. Jay
Chou, another multi-hyphenate, is King of Asian Pop and had been named New
King of Asian Pop by Times Asia in 2003. Teresa Teng was Queen of Asian Pop
in her time. Mayday is Taiwan’s hottest rock band according to BBC news.
It is common knowledge that Lee
Joon Gi is a very passionate actor-cum-entertainer. However, one is still taken
by surprise when the media reported that Lee Joon Gi had moved into temporary
lodgings near the studio so that he could put body, heart and soul into his
preparations for his ‘Delight’ Asia tour. Perhaps, he wanted his concerts to
be perfect. Lee delivered nothing less than that; he had put up a superb and
electrifying live performance.
Unsurprisingly, many of his fans
in the audience were males. One even courageously walked up to hand him a
bouquet of flowers. Lee delightedly remarked that it was the first time that
he was presented with flowers by a male fan. He was probably surprised that
his male following, particularly the Taiwanese men are less conservative
than before. Perhaps, his male admirers are impressed with his multiple
talents, particularly after watching his latest drama, Lawless Lawyer, where
he showcases his spectacular acting and martial arts skills. Lee also received
other gifts including Red Packets from his fans since Chinese New Year was
approaching.
The superstar, speaking to his
fans in three languages – Chinese Mandarin, English and Korean, made them fall even more helplessly 'in love' with him.
The attention-grabbing show had
the Taiwanese print and online media giving enthusiastic accounts of Lee’s
spectacular show, his impressive talents and charms, his interesting repertoire of songs
and nifty dance steps.
What a splash Lee Joon Gi caused
in Taipei! No one can cause that kind of excitement that he does. It was all
sunshine and song. The actor-martial artist-martial arts choreographer-popstar-model-producer
just amazes everyone. Perhaps, one can add ‘comedian’ to his achievements. Lee
Joon Gi is truly an Asian megastar. His glorious songs
and dance styles serve as a testament to his singing and dancing skills.
Accompanied by his live band, the Dancing King made quite a spectacular performance. Being a hot and influential culture icon, it is every fan’s dream to watch him
live on stage.
It is no wonder that Lee Joon Gi is one of the most
recognizable names in the Asian showbusiness industry. There is only one and
only Lee Joon Gi.
Having the aura, presence and reputation of a superstar and
showbusiness royalty, Lee Joon Gi has been treated as such. Upon his return
from his Taiwan trip, the South Korean media and fans were waiting for him. The
down-to-earth Lee humbly bowed his head, acknowledged the media crew and warmly
shook hands with his fans who had come out in droves to welcome him home. Unlike many top stars, Lee is not an elusive personality and he has never
avoided the media nor his fans. Unsurprisingly, Lee Joon Gi has emerged triumphant yet again from his ‘Delight’ tour.
