MOON LOVERS: SCARLET HEART RYEO
2nd ANNIVERSARY
29 August 2018 is the second
anniversary of the South Korean HISTORICAL drama, Moon Lovers: Scarlet
Heart Ryeo. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is NOT a 'fantasy' drama like what some people would like us to believe.
The drama is an adaptation of the novel, Bubu Jingxin by the Chinese novelist, Tong Hua.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, like Lawless
Lawyer, is a masterpiece and Lee Joon Gi is incomparable as an actor
in both dramas. Never failing to amaze, Lee has been hailed as South Korea’s finest drama actor by the global
audience.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, the 2016 heart-stopping drama about Prince Wang So’s
traumatic experiences and tough challenges in the Goryeo palace was (and still is) the overwhelming
favourite historical drama of global viewers. Lee Joon Gi’s tour de force performance as Wang So,
the Goryeon prince has struck
deep chords with the global audience.
Kdrama viewers would never look at Korean historical dramas the same way again because the unforgettable Wang So is forever etched in their hearts.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo has set a South Korean drama record with 2.5
billion views in China and had garnered 73% of drama viewership in Singapore
and Malaysia in 2016.
Due to MLSHR's massive popularity in Taiwan, Lee Joon Gi was presented with the Best Actor 2016 Award by Taiwan’s KKTV.
Dramafever accorded Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo the 'Best HISTORICAL Drama' status in 2016.
According to the Inquisitr, ‘It should also be noted that Scarlet Heart: Ryeo is the second most watched K-drama in North and South America exclusively through DramaFever. A spokesperson for the company made it known that Scarlet Heart: Ryeo has been their No. 2 show on the popular streaming site with over two million views since its premiere. The only K-drama surpassing it is Cinderella and Four Knights.’
'Though Scarlet
Heart: Ryeo is unpopular among Koreans, it is dominating the viewership
internationally. According to a report by DramaFever News, the period
K-drama recorded a record-breaking 300 million viewers in China over the course of three
days starting on the day of its debut on Youku. It
surpassed the initial debuts of both Descendants of the Sun and Uncontrollably
Fond. Eventually, Scarlet Heart: Ryeo surpassed one billion views as
of September 21, made known by Lee Joon Gi on his official
Instagram in a “thank
you” post. These numbers are favorable for the Chinese streaming site because it is the most expensive K-drama Youku has bought, with a total of
$8 million USD. That is about $400,000 paid per episode.'
Globaltimes reports: On its
premiere, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo placed first in
the topical index among Korean TV series," Yuehua Cheung, the general
manager of overseas market development center of Mango Entertainment, one of
the show's investors and producers, told the Global Times, citing data based on
analysis of cable news and Web searches in South Korea.
“It shows that Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo has high recognition and influence among young Koreans. After watching the Korean version, many Korean audiences have turned to the Chinese version, becoming interested in the Chinese history and culture,” said Cheung.
It is unsurprising that Lee Joon Gi’s spectacular and compelling performance as Bong Sang
Pil in his latest popular modern drama, Lawless Lawyer has been widely acclaimed by
critics and writers as his finest performance, both in the acting and martial
arts / action categories. Lawless Lawyer is an exhilarating, pulse-pounding and fast-paced legal thriller about a revolutionary
lawyer who uses controversial means, including his fists, to bring criminals
to justice. It is full of rollercoaster twists and revelations that no one
expects.
Thanks to the stellar performance of the lead actor, Lee Joon Gi,
the memorable performance of other actors, the excellent scripts, creative direction, amazing cinematography, spectacular martial arts
/ action choreography, beautiful OSTs and the wonderful wardrobe, both dramas have won the lavish praise of the global audience.
Many of Lee Joon Gi’s drama characters have latched themselves onto
the minds of the viewers and have refused to let go. Can viewers forget Wang
So and Bong Sang Pil?
This is food for thought. |
