THE MOST AMAZING
FACE OF ASIA
Lee Joon Gi, the multi-hyphenate superstar, is the most amazing face of
Asia. One could hardly be surprised particularly after the airing of Lawless
Lawyer, his latest action-cum-legal thriller drama. Lee is not only an awesome,
versatile and consummate actor but also an awe-inspiring martial artist. On top of it, he is an
accomplished popstar, a natural ‘supermodel’ and a fascinating patriotic ex-soldier. Lee Joon Gi’s journey to stardom and precipitous rise to the pinnacle of fame
has been well-chronicled. His impassioned interest in entertainment - acting,
martial arts, singing, and fashion has manifested itself at every stage of
his life. And what’s more, Lee Joon Gi is handsome, intelligent, charming and

model, is certainly mǎo dé bǐ (冇得比).
Incomparable. These impressive images have struck deep chords in the local

CRIMINAL MINDS KOREA
Ever since the announcement of Lee Joon Gi’s reunion with the
renowned director, Kim Jin Min for their latest drama, Lawless Lawyer, Lee
has been monopolising the headlines.
There has been a deluge of congratulations on the high ratings of the cable drama for Lee Joon Gi, the
leading actor; Kim Jin Min, the director; Yoon Hyun Ho, the screenwriter; the
main actors (who had been deftly cast), the rest of the cast and production
staff. Unsurprisingly, viewers are clamouring for a Season Two.
Viewers have trumpeted Lawless Lawyer as the year’s best drama as it is a brilliantly directed and superbly crafted drama, one with a powerful mental, emotional, spiritual and didactic impact. It is a masterpiece. Another reason is Lee Joon Gi’s amazing and entertaining performance
has exerted a hypnotic hold over everyone. Lee has received astonishing critical acclaim - he has the enthusiastic approval of the
Korean press, the Korean public and the global viewers.
THE
DRAMA
Lawless Lawyer, which is set in the fictional city of Ki Seong,
is a satire directed at contemporary political corruption and injustice.
The drama paints an interesting and refreshing portrait of Bong
Sang Pil, a sinewy ‘revolutionary’ lawyer who seeks revenge and rough justice
for the murder of his mother.
Bong, assisted by Ha Jae Yi, a hot-headed lawyer, and his
supportive team of zany thugs, successfully brings the vicious villains of Ki
Seong to justice. Poetic justice. With that, Ahn Oh Ju, the murderous
gangster-corporate boss; the hardened and hypocritical Judge Cha Moon Sook,
and the rest of The Gang of Seven get their comeuppance and their criminal
life comes to an abrupt and fitting end.
In the process, the hero, Bong Sang Pil unwittingly brings sweeping
reforms to the Ki Seong judicial world, resulting in the dawning of a new
era. Bong Sang Pil, is finally able to exorcise his demons - his vengeful
feelings against those who have wreaked havoc in his life.
THE
DIRECTOR
Director Kim Jin Min
Director Kim Jin Min must be lauded for his absolute master stroke
of casting of Lee Joon Gi in the crucial lead role of the indomitable Bong
Sang Pil, the lawless lawyer, who seeks vengeance but ends up championing the
cause of justice.
The action-martial arts-legal thriller genre has proven to be
perfect for Lee Joon Gi. Lee had latched onto the role with a fiery
enthusiasm and consuming passion. He has astounded the audience with his spectacular
display of more than ten instances of martial arts and action skills. That
and his vast emotional range inevitably set him apart from the other South Korean actors and the elite
members of the Lawless Lawyer cast.
The greatly impressed Director
Kim Jin Min says, ‘Lee Joon Gi was
already a star back then, and now he’s a world star ……. A great actor like
him just exists, and I just happen to be living in the same era as
him.’
Thanks to the visionary casting of Lee Joon Gi and the deft casting
of the main and supporting actors, there is no question that Lawless Lawyer is
thrillingly irresistible. And, to the delight of everyone involved, the drama
has garnered the kind of terrific reviews that would make them deliriously happy.
There is no doubt that Lee Joon Gi, Director Kim, Screenwriter
Yoon and some of the other thespians and production staff deserve major
awards.

LEE
JOON GI
THE MOST AMAZING ACTOR
While famous action or martial arts stars in the East or West
are amazing at what they do, they are mostly not really good at expressing
emotions other than anger or violence.
But, Lee Joon Gi is a totally different species altogether. He,
having a natural flair for acting, is an awesome actor as he can produce any intense,
deep or conflicting emotions called for in his dramas and movies – pathos,
humour, anger, passion, romance and drama. He can also express coldness
without a hint or flicker of emotion in his eyes. Not many actors can express
vulnerability and brokenness as well as Lee Joon Gi could.
As an actor, Lee Joon Gi can slip seamlessly inside the skin of his characters and easily brings them to life. His signature characters include Park Yung Kang, the Joseon Shooter; Kim Sung Yeol, the Scholar Vampire; Wang So, the Goryeon Prince, Kim Hyun Joon, the intelligent profiler and Bong Sang Pil, the revolutionary lawless lawyer. Many viewers can never forget his moving and sensitive performance in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Lawless Lawyer in which his characters express raw or choked emotions. MBC 'Star Car Romance' has poured lavish praise on Lee Joon Gi for his amazing performance.
Unlike many actors who have been pigeon-holed as action actors or
martial artists, Lee Joon Gi has avoided the trap of being typecast. Lee has
shown his versatility in various skills in his many Korean and international
movies or dramas.
It must be reiterated that Lee Joon Gi’s remarkable martial
arts and action talents and his dazzling ability to express a whole gamut of
emotions not only set him apart from many amazing martial artists and action
superstars but also the experienced actors of the world.
In Lawless Lawyer, Lee Joon Gi, the leading actor, plays Bong
Sang Pil, the titular lawyer. Although Bong is an intelligent, handsome, sexy,
humorous, charming, athletic and stylish lawyer, he is a flawed character - a reckless lawyer.
It has to be pointed out that Lee Joon Gi’s versatility has held the local and international viewers in thrall; the
audience are seduced by the siren song of Lee Joon Gi and it is really an
uphill task to keep the audience quiet and calm whenever he is onscreen.
HUMOUR. It is undeniable that Lee Joon Gi has shown his skills
as a comedian in Lawless Lawyer and makes the audience laugh at his wit and
lively body language. He can be funny, witty, smart-alecky, cool and outright
cheeky. His comic and magical touch to the tale had elicited many a smile and
chuckle from the viewers. Sometimes, his humour leaves the audience
speechless.
SMIRKS AND TAUNTS. The association between Bong Sang Pil’s
smirks and Ha Jae Yi’s temper tantrums may have eluded some clueless viewer.
But, it is apparent that Bong’s smirks are tantamount to insults and
ridicule. His obnoxious smirks are a ruse to coax some reaction from the young lady. His
scorn raises her blood pressure.
More often than not, at their beginning of their relationship,
she is tempted to wipe the conceited smirks off his face. Since he is
constantly on her nerves, it is unsurprising that the hot-tempered lawyer lashes
out at him. Is he embarrassed? Certainly not!
However, if he had continued with it, it would have spoiled the
most intimate moments of their lives.
Bong Sang Pil's mocking smiles, smirks and cockiness are absolutely
addictive and so enjoyable to watch, and the audience are delighted that he
uses them on the other characters as well.
BROKENNESS AND VULNERABILITY. Lee Joon Gi does not just show
his comical side. He is also a bit of a tragedian who can coax tears out of his
viewers.
Lee Joon Gi can express brokenness and vulnerability impressively. The
grieving scenes where Bong Sang Pil displays his raw emotions particularly, at Choi Dae
Woong’s funeral, are real tearjerkers. Bong Sang Pil looks like one massive train wreck with Lee's gut-wrenching performance.
Bong's choked emotions, his shaking and trembling body, the almost
invisible little tremors that run across his face, the flood of tears that
flows down his cheeks and the saliva that drips off his chin show him
cracking under the enormous strain.
It is difficult for the viewers to quell their sadness and
tears as well. Lee Joon Gi has the ability to bring even hard-boiled
intellectuals to tears. The striking calibre of his heart wrenching
performance has definitely shored up his acting reputation in the drama
world.
Another stunning example of Lee's brilliant acting is his heart-wrenching screams when his
uncle, Choi Dae Woong plunges to his death from a high building.
Bong Sang Pil’s helpless
scream of horror brings to mind ‘The Scream’ a painting (1893) by Edvard Munch.
ANGER And VENOM. While most actors can showcase their
anger, Lee Joon Gi is an expert at it.
In Lawless Lawyer, Bong Sang Pil has more than his fair share
of enemies particularly the wily Judge Cha Moon Sook, the villainous Ahn Oh Ju and other gangsters.
Bong's temper is volatile and one can feel his blood pressure
spike as he is hit by a wave of anger or vengeful feelings when confronting them. His speech is strident
when he fumes and his blood boils. Bong never shies away from expressing his venom if his aim is immediate results. His favourite pastime is beating up
criminals in nightclubs, warehouses, abandoned factories, hospitals or subway
tunnels. The darkness that accompanies Bong Sang Pil’s kicks and punches can
be unsettling.
Sometimes, Bong’s anger appears in the form of malice.
One instance of Bong Sang Pil’s anger is when Ahn Oh Ju
trespasses on his time and his property. The encounter in his law office shows that he is mentally and emotionally spent. Fatigue has taken its
toll. Despite that, he tries to rouse himself to anger at the unwarranted intrusion but
finally sinks back into his swivel chair.
Other interesting emotions that Bong Sang Pil displays include his conflicted emotions when he was maligned and falsely accused by Scorpion, Choi Dae Woong’s right-hand man, of having a hand in his uncle’s death. Respect.
Sadness. Hurt. A desire to fight back.
CALM AND COMPOSED. It is a treat to watch Lee Joon Gi in his
awesome form in the courtroom. All his clothes are custom made. Bong Sang Pil
gives the impression of being effortlessly suave and sophisticated. And, he
dresses the part to prove the point. He oozes style, swag, charm and
courtroom savvy.
As the criminal defence lawyer, Bong Sang Pil is calm and
composed. He struts his stuff. He skilfully cross-examines the witnesses in
spectacular fashion, taking deep breaths, pausing at the right moment in order
to command everyone’s attention. He turns to address those in the public
gallery every now and then. Sometimes, he leans closer to the witness, looking
them squarely in the eye and declaring with as much drama as he could muster
to pronounce that the man has lied.
As an act of defiance against Judge Cha who tries to muzzle
him, he continues with his intense and determined questioning. One is struck
by Bong Sang Pil’s calm and detached efficiency in preventing Judge Cha from
derailing his arguments and evidence.
In the last courtroom battle, he joins the dots and fits the pieces of evidence together for the prosecution and the audience, giving them a
clear idea about the exact nature of Judge Cha and her court.
It is quite a performance by Lee Joon Gi. One is impressed by the calm and collected way he quizzes the witness and the feisty
way he bellows at Judge Cha, barking his orders to her to sit down. No smile. No grin. Solemn and serious. One appreciates the
gravity of the situation. His face and voice leaves no doubt that Judge Cha
is guilty of many crimes. Bong Sang Pil’s astonishing court performance ends
years of crafty manipulation by the sophisticated Judge Cha.
Lee Joon Gi does a masterful job of raising emotions and
tensions and heating up the atmosphere. His stunning portrayal of the fearless, bold
and daring hero who is determined to take down the judge has the audience hanging on his every word.
And, Bong Sang Pil does it with style. Had Bong been without his vast and fashionable wardrobe, he would not have been so impressive in his courtroom battles. Lee Joon Gi's recent weight loss, in no small part, has helped Bong Sang Pil to look like the lean and hungry but awesome lawyer.
Every one of Bong Sang Pil's single breasted, doubled-breasted and
three-piece suits hang ever so wonderfully and seductively on him. No one can
deny that Bong Sang Pil is a stylish and stunning lawyer.
Bong Sang Pil, one must repeat, looks like a supermodel who has just
walked out of the fashion pages of some men and women’s fashion magazines. He
even looks so good in prison clothes and hospital gear. Watching him spikes
the adrenaline.
Viewers and seasoned critics cannot but be impressed by Bong Sang Pil's handsome, sexy and stylish looks. The point to be driven home is that the stylish clothes and how Lee Joon Gi looks in them contribute greatly to the drama; it is integral in the telling of the legal story. Bong Sang Pil is easily the best-looking lawyer in South Korea's dramaland. Besides the top awards for acting performance and martial arts skills, Lee also deserves to be given an award for being the best dressed lawyer. Lee Joon Gi’s amazing performance in Lawless Lawyer should bring the highest honours that any actor could win. The handsome Lee Joon Gi with his seductive knee-weakening smile, without a shadow of a doubt, is an extraordinary actor, and millions of drama viewers will readily attest to it.
One is suddenly reminded of Lee Joon Gi's amazing performance in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (MLSHR). One can hardly be surprised but impressed by the explosive global admiration for Lee Joon Gi and the sheer scale of Internet response to MLSHR in 2016. The MLSHR audience can
legitimately claim that Lee Joon Gi is an exceptional actor and MLSHR is a
distinguished piece of work. Another masterpiece.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, the 2016 raging favourite of global viewers had 2.5 billion views in China, and had garnered 73% of the Korean drama viewership in Singapore and Malaysia. He was presented with the Best Actor Award by Taiwan's KKTV. MLSHR was also a resounding success in the rest of Asia and the Hallyu wave penetrated many parts of the world. Lee Joon Gi’s brilliant performance had moved the viewers so much that there was scarcely a dry eye throughout the airing of the drama.
One can be
sure that the viewers of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo will never ever forget
Wang So or MLSHR. International viewers are constantly clamouring for MLSHR
Season 2.

LEE JOON GI THE

AND AWE-INSPIRING
ACTION
AND
MARTIAL
ARTS
SUPERSTAR
Lee Joon Gi, the leading actor of Lawless Lawyer, is the one who has kicked the drama into high gear. The drama has drawn gasps from
seasoned critics and the intelligent audience; they are convinced of the
magnetic power of Lee Joon Gi’s many amazing natural talents ranging from
acting to martial arts skills and athleticism.
Lee’s display of his vast-ranging, spectacular and jaw-dropping
martial arts and action skills in more than 10 instances in Lawless Lawyer has earned him a niche in
the annals of South Korean drama world as the martial arts exponent who has impressively broken records. The audience, particularly the females have ‘oohed and aahed’
from the moment Lee Joon Gi appeared in the drama, and unsurprisingly, they still haven't stopped.
Lee Joon Gi’s intense and committed training in Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu for his latest drama, Lawless Lawyer has been reported unfalteringly by
the media. Lee is not averse to hard work; he has an incredible and
extraordinary work ethic.
As he was determined to showcase his best skills in Lawless
Lawyer, he had consulted with the action director and also trained very hard under his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and martial arts sifu. The consummate actor passes on to his
audience the same rush of adrenaline that he feels for his work. No wonder
the viewers are captivated and spellbound by his acting performance and
action scenes.
However, many fans had expressed their concerns about Lee’s
weight loss. They should not have worried. Lee Joon Gi was determined to lose
weight for the success of his drama.
For the role of Wang So in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Lee
Joon Gi lost 33 lbs so that he could look like the neglected, sad and lonely
prince.
Lee confessed that he lost some more weight this year for the
role of Bong Sang Pil in Lawless Lawyer so that he could look like the lean
and hungry but athletic lawyer who had suffered for 18 years.
While losing weight has nothing to do with real acting, it must
be pointed out that it has made his body lighter and more flexible so that he
could execute more impressive action or martial arts moves and prevent
injuries.
Lee says, ‘I worked hard
to lose weight to show the different kinds of action in the drama.’
It is not a secret that Lee has trained in multiple types of
martial arts and athletic skills for Lawless Lawyer. Lee Joon Gi’s versatility
is a visual treat.
By all accounts, the drama has been calibrated for maximum thrills
and excitement and Lee Joon Gi doles out action and martial arts skills with
surprising ease. Lee Joon Gi had spent a great amount of time to map out and
plan his various martial arts skills. Some scenes call for his driving
skills, particularly in the dramatic high-speed car chase and smash-up.
Lee Joon Gi’s roster of remarkable feats in Lawless Lawyer surpasses that of other
action dramas. He is superior to many action stars and he proves to be
perfectly cast for the role. He
certainly rules the hearts of the audience with his plethora of skills.

LEE JOON GI AS THE ROMANTIC HERO
Unlike many actors or
action stars, Lee Joon Gi, the handsome, sexy and charming heartthrob, is a
very versatile actor and he can also do romance. The fact that Lee plays a romantic hero in his dramas does not detract from his tour-de-force performance but instead,
notches up the quality and attraction of his dramas.
Lee’s chemistry with all
his leading ladies is amazing. There are many moments that he is so
tender, gentle and sensitive to them that the audience,
particularly, the female viewers just swoon over him.
LEE JOON GI AND SEO YEA JI
LAWLESS LAWYER
2018
It must be emphasized that Lee Joon Gi’s chemistry
with Seo Yea Ji, his leading lady in Lawless Lawyer, goes through the roof.
Bong Sang Pil’s
relationship with Ha Jae Yi starts on the wrong foot. His mocking wit, his
teasing words and cheeky facial expressions may have raised Ha Jae Yi’s blood
pressure but those are the elements that delight the audience.
The series of spell-binding
romantic scenes with Seo Yea Ji is responsible either for the ladies’
gurgling pleasure or for a long trail of broken hearts.
The bedroom scene with Lee
Joon Gi asleep on the bed has sent many hearts racing. Viewing him and Ha Jae
Yi together is sheer pleasure and makes female hearts flutter. Lee Joon Gi has logged
in even more female and male fans than ever.
Episode 6
Many well-meaning fans, hoping that their reel romance would translate into a real romance, have been scheming to get them to the altar.
When discussing Lee Joon Gi's chemistry with his leading ladies, one cannot avoid mentioning his burning chemistry with Nam Sang Mi in Time Between Dog and
Wolf, IU in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Park Min Young in Candy In My
Ears.
LEE JOON GI AND NAM SANG MI
TIME BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF
Time Between Dog and Wolf,
a very popular drama was broadcast in 2007. It must have been too long for
viewers to remember the reaction of the fans or the audience towards the
couple. Lee Joon Gi must have been in his mid-twenties then. It is difficult to escape
the feeling that their chemistry is scorching, or shall we say, electrifying.
It wouldn’t have been
surprising if there was raging jealousy among Lee Joon Gi’s legions of young fans
then. The romantic scenes might have singed many a teenage heart.
When they were reunited in
The Joseon Shooter in 2014, their chemistry was still great.
LEE JOON GI AND LEE JI EUN (IU)
Lee Joon Gi and IU’s
chemistry in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is intense too.
Lee Joon Gi’s passionate portrayal
of Prince Wang So and Emperor Gwangjong is phenomenal and the success of the
drama is due, in large part, to his amazing performance. The audience is
held rapt at Lee's portrayal of the haunted prince and his flair for suffering.
Wang So’s obsession with
Hae Soo resulted in IU’s fans raving over him and they have been shipping her
off with Lee Joon Gi ever since. There is even a site in Soompi that has over
1,000 pages to show their enormous admiration for their screen chemistry.
LEE JOON GI AND PARK MIN YOUNG
Lee Joon Gi’s amazing
chemistry with Park Min Young in Candy In My Ears should not be omitted from
this discussion. They played themselves in a supposed ‘reality show’ which
turned out to be a semi-reality show. Perhaps, it could be aptly described as
a romantic comedy show within a reality show. The beginning part was real
enough but it became more of a short drama after that.
Lee Joon Gi shows his comic
side in many funny moments in the show.
The final segment is a
moving experience. Lee Joon Gi’s superb acting and Park Min Young’s fine
performance evoke heartbreak among the emotional audience, who were reduced
to tears.

7 First Kisses: Ending
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbiSxgWCBGA
In Lotte
Duty Free’s 2016 eight-part web drama ‘Seven
First Kisses’, Lee Joon Gi plays a self-made Tech Billionaire and
childhood friend of Min Soo Jin, played by Lee Cho Hee.
The modern
Cinderella fairy tale (Episode 2) is a heady cocktail of love, wealth, power
and prestige.
The
adorable Soo Jin, a Lotte Duty Free information desk employee, is pleasantly
surprised that her dreamy suitor who drives a red sports supercar and owns an
impressive home with a huge swimming pool, has been obsessed with her since
young.
Both
actors are hilariously funny and the chemistry is just great. Lee Joon Gi turns
out to be the Perfect Man.
It wouldn’t
be surprising if viewers go gaga over the handsome and charming star. Who knows
many admirers might have loitered near the Lotte Duty Free information desk, just
hoping to have a glimpse of him.
The ending of the romantic relationship in four of the productions, Time Between Dog And Wolf, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Candy In My Ears and Seven First Kisses is rather sad.
Lee Joon Gi’s performance as a romantic partner is powerful and sizzling. Coupled with his sexy good looks and megawatt smile, he makes his sensual presence felt, resulting in the ladies going into a swoon. |
LEE JOON GI
THE DAZZLING POPSTAR
(Singer-cum-Dancer)
It is easy to see Lee Joon Gi’s appeal as a popstar. Lee has a star-like quality when it comes to singing and dancing. As a popstar, he is full of charm, passion, talent, zest and wit. His athleticism helps develop coordination skills and fast footwork. No wonder the loveable Lee has won a lot of hearts.
Lee meets his fans regularly in his concerts all over Asia, particularly in China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Seoul.
That he has quite a number of albums to his credit should come as no surprise: Thank You (2016), Exhale (2014), My Dear (2013), Case By Case (2013), One Day (2012), Deucer (2012), Musical: Voyage of Life (2010) and J Style (2009).
