SEVEN FIRST KISSES
LOTTE DUTY FREE WEB SERIES

Lee Joon Gi: Web Series - Self-made Tech Billionaire

Who would have thought that Lotte Duty Free could imagine or dream up such a creative, innovative and game-changing idea of using popular Hallyu stars in a commercial advertisement disguised as a web series to promote their stores? They have certainly left many major brands behind in their bid to to garner worldwide attention and win more tourist dollars. Previously, some tourists may not have known about the stores even though they had visited South Korea.

In the 8 episodes of the series entitled ‘Seven First Kisses’, viewers get to see the location of Lotte Duty Free’s very impressive Main Store in Myeongdong, Seoul, the store frontage, the bus stop in front of the store, the various boutiques on the different floors, the elevator and even the escape staircase and of course, their information counter. We are given the idea that Lotte Duty Free’s information counter employees are proficient in Chinese. Viewers also get to feast their eyes on seven good looking actors and in Episode Two (2), they are taken on a tour of one or two interesting places in Seoul.

To promote their stores, Lotte Duty Free had acquired the assistance of popular male stars Lee Joon Gi, Park Hae Jin, Ji Chang Wook, Kai (EXO), OK Taecyeon, Lee Jong Suk and Lee Min Ho for their web series which was aired between 05 December 2016 and 05 January 2017.

The 8 short episodes are about 10 minutes each. The tale takes the audience on a day-dream journey of the Information Desk employee, Min Soo Jin.  An occasional fantasy is not harmful but Soo Jin’s daydream is flooded with seven fantasies!

BOYFRIENDS

Don’t roll your eyes or pour scorn just yet. Give the web series which is distributed by Naver TV Cast a chance if you have not watched it yet.

Lee Joon Gi’s episode (Episode number 2) is a heady cocktail of love, wealth, power and prestige. Lee plays the Perfect Man, a self-made Tech Billionaire and childhood friend of Min Soo Jin in this short magnetic modern Cinderella fairy tale. He is a dreamy suitor who drives a red sports car and owns an impressive home with a huge swimming pool. It is interesting to note that he has been in love with Soo Jin since young. His world revolves around her and he has kept the memories of his love alive and tries to reunite with her. His presence sends energy-like fire through her veins. Aren't such men endangered or bordering on extinction?

Park Hae Jin is the diligent and caring Boss of Lotte Duty Free who rescues Soo Jin from a mentally unstable stalker and flasher who has been secretly taking photos of the various parts of her body. Soo Jin is under the false impression that her boss is a pervert.

Ji Chang Wook is a secret agent who is Soo Jin’s ex-team leader of her spy ring. He has fallen in love with her but, as in such clandestine operations, love and romance is out of question. Before the budding romance spins out of control, she is kicked out of the covert operations. But, caught in a dangerous trap, the former partners manage to kick and punch their way out of their very tricky situation.

Kai of EXO has a student-tutor relationship with Soo Jin who teaches him Chinese. He has been secretly in love with Soo Jin and decides to ask her out. They dance in the park and he gives her a couple-ring. She cannot be considered to be a cradle-snatcher since she is only five years his senior.

OK Taecyeon is the starry-eyed heir of an affluent family who showers Soo Jin with lots of love and expensive gifts although he already has a girlfriend. Their relationship is vehemently opposed by his mother. And, like King Edward VIII who abdicated the British throne to marry Wallis Simpson, the determined and idealistic young man defies everyone including his mother and declares publicly at a press conference, that he is relinquishing his inheritance for the woman he loves.

Lee Jong Suk plays the scion of the Lotte Duty Free family who chooses Soo Jin to be in his commercial film. Being nervous and worried about being in a promotional film with the son of the boss, she toddles in her high heels and stumbles. She is terrorised by the intimidating director of the CF who hisses at her for every mistake she makes. The wealthy young man understands her anxieties and is able to calm her nerves.

Lee Min Ho is a famous travel writer of the book ‘Travelling To Find Myself’. In contrast with the other episodes where she is a passive recipient of love and attention, Soo Jin plays an active and resolute role in pursuing the young man. She goes overboard and manages to make a spectacle of herself by being brazen and  blatantly obvious that she is besotted with him. This is the shortest of all episodes.

The ending of every romance is a disappointment for Soo Jin, and even till the last, the ending is ambiguous. All the men are good looking in their own way and interesting in their varying degrees of acting abilities. It is not surprising that if one’s ability is lacklustre, it is easy to spot.

Lee Joon Gi never falls short of giving his best. He is KRoyalty when it comes to movies, TV dramas and entertainment, and the short web series cements that status. Would it be biased to say that in terms of acting ability, Lee Joon Gi is the best? Lee has an amazing sense of humour and a certain amusing quality that one can’t place a finger on. He steals the show. Why, he is even placed first in the line-up of actors in the web series!

Lee Joon Gi is no ordinary star but is, in actual fact, a real superstar. He dominates newspapers, tabloids, magazines, the internet and the social media. His superstar power gives the extra wattage to the Lotte Duty Free advertisement. Lee Joon Gi’s leverage is his enormous appeal which can influence the Hallyu audience as well as the local consumers.

The female thespians are the leading actress, Lee Cho Hee who plays the adorable Soo Jin, a Lotte Duty Free employee, and Choi Ji Woo who plays a member of the highest order of angels, the Seraphim.

At the end of the web series, the viewers must have felt some sympathy for the young lady as she has not been able to bag a suitor despite entering into seven romantic dalliances.

Lee Cho Hee: Min Soo Jin

Choi Ji Woo: Angel of Love

The web series seem to poke fun at Min Soo Jin who is an incorrigible day dreamer. The tale hinges on the misplaced passport of the mysterious angel who is actually an Angel of Love.

On her 25th birthday, the diligent LDF worker, Soo Jin, is granted a wish after returning the angel’s passport. She is spoilt for choice when the mind-reading angel offers her a chance to be up close with seven romantic suitors. When she is about to be kissed by each of her suitors, they seem to mysteriously vanish into the thin air.

The ending is ambiguous. What does the web series tell us? ‘It Was All A Dream’.

THE ANGEL OF LOVE
AND
THE DAYDREAMER

The web series begins with the showcase of  South Korea’s famous Lotte Duty Free’s Main Store. The huge shopping complex is frequented by many local and foreign shoppers.

At the store, the three ladies stationed at the information counter were frontline employees who were ready to be of service to customers, greeting them and offering them help. They worked on their feet throughout the day.

Min Soo Jin was of marriageable age but she had yet to get a boyfriend. Suffering from low self-esteem, she habitually daydreamed about having a man in her life. She was often inconsolable in her gloom and misery.

The world could be pretty hard when you did not have a boyfriend at that age. Every girl who had not grabbed a man by then felt like a discarded cardboard box, one of the rejects of the world. But, daydreaming made life a bit easier.

Being the acquiescent type, she was always being treated as the personal Girl Fiday of her immediate superior. One day, the man demanded that she carried some boxes for him. Along the way, she spotted the images of the handsome models of Lotte Duty Free.

Mired in her loneliness, she gazed longingly at the images of the men on the walls. Staring at the portrait of Lee Joon Gi, Soo Jin silently engaged in her fantasies. She thought to herself ‘I wish I could have a cute boyfriend like that guy. I wish…I wish..’

You immediately sympathise with her about her deep, painful and lonely life and her heart-breaking single status.

Meanwhile, back at her desk, a beautiful and angelic-looking woman stopped by the counter and asked for directions to the Jewellery Department.

The lady seemed to be in a hurry and had inadvertently left her passport on the counter.

Soo Jin left the counter immediately for the floor below in search of the lady, but failed to find her.

Back at the counter, she opened the strange-looking passport of the lady and to her amazement, it was not an ordinary passport.

The lady in question was no common woman but an Angel of Love, a member of the Seraphim, whose domain was South Korea where she supposedly oversaw the romances of human beings.

Out of the blue, the Angel reappeared and enquired about her lost passport, which was immediately returned to her.

Had she failed to retrieve her passport, she would have missed her ‘flight’. Relieved and grateful to have recovered her vital heavenly travel document, she was prepared to grant Soo Jin a wish.

The flustered LDF employee was too embarrassed to express her wish but the angel, a mind reader, knew that Soo Jin hungered for a boyfriend.

She indicated to Soo Jin to look at the workspace behind the counter. Mysteriously, a row of six cards with darkened male images appeared.

One could not blame Soo Jin for looking incredulous when the angel informed her that she would be meeting a guy within 10 seconds.

With a sense of expectant fascination, she peered at the entrance, waiting for the man to materialise. Within a matter of moments, a handsome young man appeared and seemed determinedly to be approaching the information counter.

MR PERFECT

Her wealthy and successful hero approached her, a supremely confident and sexy man,  with  a swagger in his step. He looked poised, polished and sophisticated.

Soo Jin's suitor looked steadily at her with an air of confidence as he approached. He had the most amazing and gorgeous eyes. What more, in a world where perfect men were a rare human species, who would have dreamt that he could suddenly appear in her life? He had everyone gawking with dropped jaws.

The wealthy man was decked out in his very expensive burgundy suit worn over a black turtle-neck jumper. His brown-tinted hair was fashionably cut and styled, and he looked well-groomed and smoking hot. A walking, living advertisement of wealth and gorgeousness, a vision that was impossible to raze from one’s memory.

The look in his eyes held such intensity that it was difficult for Soo Jin to look away. A warm smile played on his lips.

Soo Jin’s overidding emotion was one of shock. Overcome by his heavenly looks, she gaped at him. Her eyes were like two round saucers.

Like a dream, he leaned against the counter and spoke like those perfect men in those romantic and fluffy Kdramas. The second he began to speak, Soo Jin was captivated by his masculine voice and raw energy. No hoity-toity accent. She immediately fell for his charms. Although all eyes were on them, nothing seemed to matter.

His eyes bored into hers. He had dispensed with the pleasantries and pick-up lines.

‘I heard you’re getting off work soon. I’ll wait for you outside,’ he smiled while maintaining eye contact. He did not ask for a date specifically but expected her to go with him. No, it was not arrogance but an amazing self- confidence. Incredulous.

His smile broadened and his eyes twinkled with amusement. Who could resist that?  Was he making a pass at the vulnerable girl? Making a romantic overture may seem akward for some but not him. It was a sign of assertiveness. His timing was perfect. She was ready to be romanced.

Soo Jin couldn’t believe her luck! The date appointment was a very public gesture and there was no secret hanky-panky involved. At least, no one would now consider her to be someone who was left on the shelf.

She was shocked, to say the least but after the brief exchange, the gorgeous man had upped and departed before she could reply.

As he turned away, the warm countenance had quickly mutated into a smug, mischevious look. He was smiling like a Cheshire Cat. If he was haughtily cocksure about completely winning her heart, it was not clear. But he did appear complacent – self-satisfied with his initial conquest. She was flustered, muddled and confused, signs that he had rattled her emotions. She seemed ripe for the picking.

As he walked away, his outward confidence was noticeable. He was a man of the world.

There was a flurry of excitement. Did she actually see what she saw? Lee Joon Gi, the model for Lotte Duty Free. Was it a figment of her imagination that the famous actor had conversed with her?

When he was out of earshot, her colleagues wised her up on the mysterious visitor. He was not an actor. They thought Soo Jin was acting weirdly. Unceremoniously, they slammed the fact in her face. Could she be that thick? Their patience was stretched to breaking point. Soo Jin ignored the slight.

With looks of contempt at her ignorance, they chastised her for not recognising the renowned Tech billionaire, the most eligible bachelor in the whole nation. The man had received the rapturous approval of her colleagues. It was obvious that one of them had taken a shine to the wealthy and gorgeous man, judging by her dramatics.

After work, others were hustling off homeward bound but Soo Jin harboured a feeling of feverished expectancy as she walked off the premises of the shopping complex, looking around for the handsome and super wealthy young man.

She must have been a wee disappointed that he was not waiting for her as promised. Well, how can the words of a high-net-worth man be trusted? She pondered over the incident as she strolled along the tree-lined sidewalk.

However, further down the road, the billionaire mogul had been waiting for her in his shiny red Lotus Evora 400 sportscar which was billed as the fastest, most powerful and expensive Lotus car of the new Millienium.

A superwealthy man needed a supercar to fit his status.

Suddenly, a masculine voice called out to her. She was surpised that he had kept his promise after all. Soo Jin was elated when she saw him exit from the low-slung sportscar which was parked parallel on the road.

He strode confidently towards her, held her hand and led her to his car. Wasn’t he acting as if he was on very familiar terms with her? Intimate gestures: Touchy-feely actions. Hand-holding. Romantic, lovey-dovey display.

Did she flinch instinctively at his touch? Caution reigned supreme. Wait a minute.

She asked innocuously, ‘You want me to get in? He, a master at fielding tough questions, was ready with his answer.

He would not bother her anymore if she went out to dinner with him just once. It is a good ruse for a man to put to excellent use to entice a girl to go out with him.

Soo Jin didn’t know why he asked her out on a date as they were total strangers. She believed that he had mistaken her for someone else. It was so unbelievable – too good to be true! He was the hottest guy in the nation!

And he told her firmly that he was not kidding her, meaning he was not looking for a cheap hookup or fooling around with her.  He even knew her name. Min Soo Jin. How did he ever find out her name? She told him that she was not playing games either; she was serious. That meant they understood each other perfectly and they were off on a healthy start to their relationship.

Still, she should not have thrown caution to the wind. Against her better judgement, she acceded to his request to leave with him. It had only taken the tiniest amount of persuasion on his part to convince her to do so.

The handsome stranger gazed at her intently and insisted that she listened to him, and he said, ‘Let’s go!’ Objections seemed futile. Soo Jin allowed her emotions to be swayed and let herself to be helped into the expensive luxury car.

The cardinal rules. Well, didn’t her mother tell her not to talk to strangers? What’s worse is that she was easily persuaded to get into the car of a stranger! She had let down her guard. Where’s mom’s wisdom? That’s plain wrong!

You know what mom would say? ‘A wolf in sheep’s clothing?’ Probably. But the whole point is you never know what he might turn out to be! The Paranoic Murderer. The Psychotic Stalker. A Violent Sociopath. Shudder. Shudder. Shudder.

Hold it! Your imagination is running wild. Since this is a Lotte Duty Free’s beautiful and romantic drama, nothing is going to happen to the nice, naïve and ingenuous young lady. And don’t smear the reputation of that nice, wealthy young man or try to derail a budding romance.

The mysterious handsome stranger turned out to be every young lady’s dream gentleman.

He smiled charmingly at her as he held the door open for her. Her Prince Charming. Girls have often read about ‘A Knight on a White Charger’ who sweeps his beloved lady off her feet and they ride off into the sunset. Now, in this twenty-first century, Prince Charming, in his burgundy suit, sweeps his ladylove off her feet and drives her off in his bright red super sportscar!

Soo Jin was clueless: she had no inkling where he was taking her. But, the girl was finally going places!

The first place she had stepped into was the mysterious man’s sportscar! He climbed in beside her and the sportscar zoomed off at great speed and joined the stream of traffic. It was a stylish and beautifully designed car. The aerodynamics of the car allowed them to have a supersmooth journey.

The sportcar raced along the busy thoroughfares, and thereafter, the bridge. My, was Min Soo Jin impressed as the car raced along the highway and the bridge. She was overcome with emotion as she watched the setting sun. The millennium car seemed to fly across that very impressive bridge with arches. Now, what’s the name of that bridge again?

Finally, they arrived at the best place – his home! Good men never bring their girlfriends home unless they are thinking of long-term commitment.

The young tycoon and his girl arrived at his splendid house with a swimming pool.

He was a real gentleman and opened the car door for her. She stood there for a moment, taking in his vast empire - his two storied bungalow. She was given an exclusive view and feel of his magnificent home. My, did her jaws drop!

First date and first taste of his luxurious landed property. That’s how to impress and lure the girl into your heart.

The web had been inticately woven. The Fly had crawled into the Spider’s Web.

On the walls of his palatial home were impressive symbols of his achievements. Framed covers of illustrious magazines with his handsome self on the covers.

There were some cheeky and hilarious references to some local and foreign business magazines, including Forbes. Forbes, the world’s top business magazine had become Forbos. The young tech magnate and whiz had made it to the covers of those important magazines. He must have commanded the respect of the business community and government. Impressive!

The mysterious stranger seemed to have disappeared for a while but Soo Jin had not noticed that silence had descended on the place.

She was busy scrutinising each framed cover one by one. If she had silent whoops of delight, it was not surprising. It was obvious that those magazine covers had made quite an impression on her. She was so absorbed in studying the magazine covers that when he called her name, it left her a little stunned.

He had been hovering in the background and was now smiling broadly. Soo Jin gawked at him. She found it impossible to concentrate – she was starstruck. Come on, who wouldn’t be?

Before her was a gorgeous vision. An awesome smile played across his lips. He must have changed part of his attire. The formal jacket was replaced by a long woollen cardigan teamed with the same black turtleneck jumper. Say hello again to the Tech Tycoon.

He certainly knew how to romance her. She was to join him for a romantic candle-lit dinner. Not exactly your in-the-dark candle-lit dinner. I mean, all the bright sparkly electric lights were still blazing.

He, like a real gentleman, pulled out the chair for her before he sat down. They were seated at a long rectangular table on which were placed vases of red roses.

They raised their glasses and probably toasted to their relationship, after which Soo Jin quickly attacked her food. Her head was all muddled up. How lucky to be dining with him!

She was ecstatic. She stared at him, amazed by it all. She was now a highly desirable woman. He had turned her brain into mush. Now, she could let go of her previous angst and frustration of being left on the shelf.

Staring mesmerised at him, she could feel her racing heartbeats. Her eyes were glued to him. He seemed to sense her stare and looked up. His piercing gaze disconcerted her. He had that undefinable look in his eyes. He smiled and unleashed his charm on her.

His stare was intense and his seductive countenance worked brilliantly for him. Any girl, without a shadow of a doubt, would have swooned over him!

His eyes were his most potent seduction weapon. Priceless! His look tugged at her heartsrings. Now, wasn’t he being a bit playful, racy or naughty?

After a few minutes of mindless gazing, she seemed lost in her dreams that it was by some miracle that she was with the gorgeous young tycoon.

Suddenly, Soo Jin jolted out of her stupor. She felt rather stupid. Acutely embarrassed by his intense stare, she attacked her food with gusto. She tried hard to keep her composure but she must have shifted uneasily in her seat.

She seemed to have her head screwed up. She was certainly an amusing sight, and he laughed heartily at her. His teeth shone in the overly bright fluorescent lights. It would have been better if the lighting had been dimmed so that her embarrassment remained in the shadows.

But he was so charming and gorgeous that she had difficulty keeping herself on track during the meal. She was confused but was bowled over by his wicked laughter.

The room then fell into an awkward silence. Any hope of a sensible conversation disappeared.

After dinner, they walked around the pool.

He grabbed her hand and led her to a rattan seat by the pool. His strong capable fingers guided hers. A myriad of questions surged into Soo Jin’s head. She wracked her brain trying to make sense of who he was and what he knew about her.

They settled down on the poolside seats. The lights outside were as dazzling as the lights inside the house.

It was noticeable that there were no domestic staff lurking in the background. They had probably been instructed to retire early for the night to allow their boss some degree of privacy with his girlfriend.

The wealthy man looked lovingly at Soo Jin. He noticed the look of bewilderment on Soo Jin’s face. Questions flooded her mind. A gleam of humour momentarily lit his face.

Her flood of pressing questions was soon answered. It seemed that he was prepared for that special moment. He  played his ace. He switched on the TV and surprise! There was a little girl on the screen, and it was her.

As the scenes changed, he pointed out that they were in a church group when they were young. So, the stranger was a person from her forgotten past.

Soo Jin was stunned and she was still in the dark. He had done his level best to collect photos of her and produce a video for her. He merrily recounted their past in order to jog her memory. Taking her on a trip down memory lane, he reminded her of their church group trip together. That made him her church oppa.

He even kept photos of her in her school uniform.

The young tycoon, so pleased with himself and his handiwork, was unable to mask his obvious fascination with her. He smiled like a little puppy waiting to be patted. He remembered the past so vividly that Soo Jin was left in no doubt that he was obsessed with her.

She had been on the receiving end of his love. The revelation that she could not even remember him or had not noticed him must have been hurtful to him but he was understanding and realistic about it. She had not noticed him then. Probably, it was because he had remained in the background and did not reveal his feelings.

However, he admitted that unbeknownst to her, he had been taking her photos while she was walking around the neighbourhood. He lived in her neighbourhood and worshipped in the same church as her.

He apologised for his intrusion into her privacy and for having snapped her photos without permission. It seemed that he had fallen hard for her and her life was inextricably enmeshed with his.

Having achieved upward mobility and having the odds now heavily stacked in his favour, he had come back for her. He was now confident enough to confess his feelings for her. He had fallen unequivocally and completely in love with her and that had remained unchanged throughout the years. No woman, except Soo Jin, held the slightest interest for him.

She hung on his every word. Her emotions must have thawed considerably and there was a rising thrill in her chest.

She could not begin to imagine what life would be like with him. If she had been been cloistered in gloomy clouds of self-doubt and insecurity, they all floated away in that instant.  What a stroke of good luck!

He paused for a moment to gauge her reaction. He was trying to figure her out and waited for her to respond but when she did not, he held up his hand and aimed his forefinger upward, ‘Hold on’. The words, 'Happy 25th Birthday’ appeared on the screen.

He presented her with a bouquet of red roses, a symbol of romantic love. He was on one bended knee when he gave her the roses. It was as if he was proposing to her.

Then, he verbally wished her a happy birthday. She was touched that he even remembered her birthday.  He looked her in the eye and thanked her for spending her 25th birthday with him.

She finally grasped the full significance of what he had been saying. It was a birthday surprise beyond belief!

She was the love of his life and he revealed that he had been thinking of asking her out on her birthday for some time but had never put his desire into action.

Sentiment crept up the romantic conversation. He had his insecurities and harboured the superstitious belief that a man would not end up marrying his first love. He would have proposed to her in a heartbeat but, to ensure that he did not ruin his chances, he put his desires on hold.

But, he wanted to confess his feelings that very night. Soo Jin's mind was a dance and her heartbeat was rising by the second.

His lips curved upward in a smile that reached his eyes. She became aware of the intensity with which he was staring into her eyes - his eyes burned with an intense inner fire.

He got to his feet and sat close to her. He spoke his mind without beating round the bush. He looked lovingly at her and told her that he loved her since they were kids. He must have been obsessed with her even then.

She was completely excited at the prospect of being kissed by him. If her mind was swimming, it did not show.

Are there any First-date boundaries? Was there a molecule of lust on his part? His mouth was inching towards her. She must have felt a tingle of anticipation.

Soo Jin realised that she was his destiny. She was courted and she knew she was cherished. If there was any niggling thought at the back of her mind, it had magically disappeared. She had never expected that she would be able to see her dreams fulfilled and on top of everything else, she was able to see her dream man in high definition!

A One-Woman Man - A Loyal and Loving Personality
A Religious Background

Each and every one of the descriptions had a nice ring to it.

A single woman’s mantra: Never too rich, too successful nor too gorgeous.

She caved in to his many charms. It was going to be their first kiss! Her knees must have grown weak.

When he was about to kiss her, Time stood still. Everything, came to a standstill.

Then, suddenly, everything came alive again.

It was all a dream! She woke up from her daydream at the Lotte Duty Free information counter with her body leaning forward and her eyes closed. She was ready to lock lips with the wealthy young man. Soo Jin had been daydreaming on her job.

In Defense of Daydreaming - Don’t be too harsh on Min Soo Jin. Don’t castigate her! We forgive her because the object of her dreams is Lee Joon Gi himself and he is a Model for Lotte Duty Free.

Daydreaming is healthy in small doses. Can’t say anything about the other 6 men though.  So much self-indulgence!

But on the counter was a row of six cards. One of the faceless images in the cards changed into that of Lee Joon Gi’s. It signified the end of her first gift, her first dream.

THE ENDING
IT’S ALL A DREAM

How did it end? As in all daydreams, all good things must come to an end. One has to face the reality.

When Soo Jin was about to be kissed by the handsome and gorgeous Lee Joon Gi, her heart must have been beating like a drum. Much to her chagrin, she had a sneeze attack as their faces inched closer. Achoo! The mucous droplets must have sprayed all over his face. Gross!

Embarrassed, she apologised, lowered her gaze and remained silent. She appeared to be on the verge of tears. The gentleman understood that they had been sitting outside in the cold weather for too long. Like the perfect man that he was, he covered her with a thick blanket.

As in the Cinderella tale when the bell struck twelfth, she had to leave her handsome prince behind. The love-dovey moment did not end on a high note. That magical moment was gone. It was just a dream.

ILLUSION AND REALITY

Lee Joon Gi: Press conference to promote
 Seven First Kisses

The web series tries to showcase the hilarious side of some women’s ridiculous indulgence in fantasies. Actors, popstars, celebrities and powerful men are often objects of women’s fantasies. It is no secret that many females indulge in day-dreaming about their idols or men they fancy. Although they may be worlds apart, the women still dream of ensnaring a wealthy, famous man or the scion of a wealthy family. They enjoy imagining the thrill of the chase.

Some obsessive dreamers cannot separate illusion from reality. These daydreamers idealise the unattainable and unreachable object of their affections. They imagine dating rich, handsome hunks and live in the false hope of landing the man of their dreams. The men whom they fancy are mostly out of their reach.

They daydream imaginary dialogues, painting lovey-dovey pictures of themselves with their beloved. They are trapped in their make-belief world of illusions. When such dream bubbles burst, the reality would be harsh.

In this amusing Cinderella tale, both the man and the woman have their own illusions. The tech millionaire is obsessed with Soo Jin and harbours a life-long dream of marrying her while Soo Jin is seduced by the idea of dating a rich and handsome man. While her wish is granted, her dreams are, however, destroyed and she wakes up to the stark reality.

The two thespians, Lee Joon Gi and Lee Cho Hee, are brilliant and well-matched in the romantic comedy. They both command respect as actors, being great comedians and effortless entertainers. No one could have played the role of the love-obsessed Tech billionaire nor the ingenuous lovelorn girl better. Only the two of them could have pulled off such a feat. They have tickled the audience pink with their hilarious acting.

It is a certainty that Lotte Duty Free has now made their premises a tourist site with the help of these thespians. Many would probably make a beeline for the information counter to check it out properly for themselves.
