The Japanese stage adaptation of Flower of Evil made a dazzling debut on 6 March 2026 at the IMM Theatre, Tokyo - and what a premiere it was! The cast was rewarded with a well-deserved standing ovation, with one reviewer sharing her excitement after witnessing the performance firsthand. Critics across the board were full of praise, celebrating not only the cast’s incredible talent but also the passion and dedication poured in by the backstage crew, director, and entire production team. The play will be held at the Morinomiya Pilot Hall in Osaka on 28 and 29 March 2026.

Originally a critically acclaimed South Korean television phenomenon, Flower of Evil captured hearts worldwide and became a true cultural sensation. With countless accolades and glowing reviews, the masterpiece has since inspired adaptations in countries like the Philippines, India, and China. The original series earned major recognition, with director Kim Cheol Kyu winning ‘Best Director’ at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards, while lead actor Lee Joon Gi received numerous honours - including being crowned ‘The ICON for Drama’ by Cultura magazine, as well as winning ‘Best Artist’ and ‘Asia Celebrity’ at the Asia Artist Awards in 2020.

Its impact even reached academia, sparking discussions at a conference involving two tertiary institutions in Asia!

On stage, Koichi Goseki is reported by a Pulsa Theatre reviewer to have delivered ‘a truly stunning performance as Do Hyun Soo'. His portrayal beautifully captures the character’s emotional duality - balancing vulnerability and tenderness while concealing a haunting past. ‘Every movement, even down to his fingertips' adds depth to the fragile false happiness his character struggles to protect, leaving audiences completely captivated.

Umino Mizuki shines as Cha Ji Won. According to the reviewer, she ‘passionately portrays the intense internal conflict between the pure love of a wife who wants to believe in her beloved husband and the sense of duty of a detective who coldly pursues the evidence.'

Yuki Wada, portraying the real Baek Hee Sung, also earned high praise from the reviewer for his intense presence and expressive, nuanced eye acting.

The rest of the cast likewise impressed, contributing to a production filled with standout performances.

RienrienRitz, another Japanese reviewer, was impressed by the ‘performances of the veteran actors, in particular, which conveyed a sense of madness, were breathtaking. Goseki's performance, transitioning from quiet acting to action scenes, was particularly impressive. It was beautifully sharp. The stage design and direction were also very original.' She was really impressed 'by the use of light and sound in the final scene.’

The original screenplay was written by Yoo Jung Hee, while the stage production is led by Chief Producer Yoo Sang Won of Studio Dragon - bringing together a powerhouse creative team behind this unforgettable adaptation.

Among the team was his sister, always by his side, offering support and keeping spirits high. The whole experience felt less like work and more like a joyful, behind-the-scenes adventure.

These annual photoshoots have taken Lee across the globe like a visual travel diary. From the sunny shores of Hawaii (where it all began in 2016) to the charm of Okinawa, Osaka, and Kyoto in Japan, and the vibrant cities of Hong Kong, and Macau in China - he’s turned each destination into a story.
