 Lee Joon Gi's fans, who have been kept in suspense since the airing of The Sword of Aramun, his epic masterpiece, in September 2023, are gleeful that the actor has finally approved of a television script. Lee plays the leading role of King Hyejong, a monarch of the Joseon Dynasty. It tentatively entitled, ‘Gyeongbokgung Detective Agency’.   Gyeongbokgung was the first
royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty. Gyeongbokgung means ‘great blessings palace’.
 Lee portrays the shrewd,
witty and intelligent but eccentric Sherlock Holmes King Hyejong, who tirelessly
investigates anomalies and suspicious behaviours in his kingdom. None escapes
his scrutiny. Like Sherlock Holmes, King Hyejong probably has a unique
approach to crime-solving like concealing his identity through various
disguises and employing a variety of personas and costumes to infiltrate criminal
circles and mislead suspects.
 Having acquired a venomous
tongue, the autocratic, blunt and outspoken king is unafraid of direct
confrontations. Nothing is beneath him, not even sending shockwaves through the palace with his scathing or devastating remarks. One imagines that the king is probably not unlike some
of the cantankerous fossils at his court, who ironically think he is off his
rockers! Others carefully hide their seething rage behind their masks.
This is the first time that Lee Joon Gi would be portraying an eccentric, unconventional and oddball character. The king, thought to be unhinged, cleverly employs different disguises with unique personalities to solve the crimes and problems in his kingdom. The actor will again showcase his transformative talents, acting range, versatility and action skills.

The king is assisted by his Royal Historian, Yi Seo, who, possessing an unsurpassed eidetic memory, can recall vivid details of an image after seeing it briefly. However, it is strange that King Hyejong's name is not recorded in the list of Joseon kings.   |
